I don't think I knew you had a tmnt iteration, what's the main premise of it? What makes it different than the canon iterations or other fan iterations?

I don’t have much abt posted except for some questions someone im following asked me that i answered BUUUUT

in this iteration the turtles and Splinter have their own traveling circus/carnival! it doesn’t really take place in New York tho— (but it is a setting for some important stuff)

it centers around Raph and his relationship with his brothers (mostly Donnie) and his insecurities that come with being “different” bc of his condition (albinism). I don’t see many things center around Raph and I want to give him a moment to shine. Mikey also plays a pretty big role because he’s the closest to Raph

the basic premise tho is that after getting mutated (and traumatized by the Shredder), Splinter abandons his duties as a member of the Hamato Clan in pursuit of his dream of becoming a performer (despite his mutation). eventually enough evil starts to arise and Splinter realizes that he needs to train his children in the ways of ninjutsu and all that jazz

MAY include the Ninpo/mystic stuff, but im not sure yet

the story also includes characters like Bebop and Rocksteady, Leatherhead, and Hypno as other members of the circus

i don’t have much planned out story wise as im still trying to find a good enough starting point and figure some more things out, but when I do all that i will DEFINITELY start posting abt it more

How old do you guys think Draxum is?

Do you see him as being around Splinter’s age? Younger? Older? Or way older, like thousands of years old because yokai might live for millennia? What do you all think? I’m going to share some of my random thoughts about the topic 👀

First of all, in my head, Splinter was around 35 when he got mutated. Idk… to me, moving to New York, starting over from scratch, and becoming as famous as he apparently was (which I imagine was really famous) feels like something that would’ve taken years and several different stages of his life. Then came his downfall. So, yeah, 35 just feels reasonable to me. That would make him around 50 during the movie, and in my head he looks old because, after being mutated, his life expectancy dropped to around 59 years according to some random calculations I did.

But back to Draxum.

I know he’s a yokai, so he could naturally have a much longer lifespan. I haven’t really thought about how yokai age or develop tho, so I’m mostly thinking in terms of human developmental stages. In other words, he could technically be older than Splinter in actual years while still being at a similar biological or developmental stage. At least, that’s how I see it.

I’ve been rambling without explaining myself, sorry.

The thing is… Draxum just doesn’t feel like someone who’s lived for centuries. It’s a little hard to explain but I’m gonna try.

He’s undeniably a genius, and maybe that makes him seem older. But at the same time, I feel like he’s constantly lacking the kind of judgment that comes with experience. A lot of geniuses hit their peak in their twenties, you know? And I kind of picture Draxum being at that equivalent stage of life when he created the oozquitos and mutated the turtles.

There’s also the fact that he knows a lot, but he doesn’t listen to people who obviously know more than he does. Like when he discovers the prophecy about the destruction of the yokai and completely misinterprets it, even though the Council of Heads literally warns him that he’s misunderstanding it. To me, that’s a sign of inexperience more than anything else.

And even if yokai can live for thousands of years, those extra years should still translate into more life experience… and, in my opinion, that’s exactly what Draxum seems to be missing.

Also, when he ends up with nothing and Mikey basically rescues him from being on the streets and changes his whole life… Idk, to me he could totally represent someone in the middle of a 30s crisis (although he’s probably already close to 40 by the time that happens… but I’d still say he’s in his thirties).

I know these age-related life stages are pretty subjective and definitely not an exact science. But they’re little hints that I personally interpret as Draxum being younger than Splinter, overall.

My parents r thinking about moving and stuff so im doing a deep clean of my house. Therefore, apologies if there are extended silences these next few days while we work on getting our house to be marketable lol 💔

what if the Shredder won?

AND THE KRANG DIDNT HAPPEN.

we all know DAMN WELL that there is a timeline out there where the Shredder won either by killing the Hamato family or taking Splinter’s essence (or both) and I WANNA SEE WHAT THAT TIMELINE LOOKS LIKE

like maybe Mikey is practicing his portal stuff (if he can have the power to open dimensional rifts and send someone back in time who says he can’t open rifts to DIFFERENT TIMELINES???) and he accidentally finds a world where the Shredder won and his family is destroyed. maybe Draxum is there with him, or one of his brothers. or both! maybe the brothers in that world never unlocked their Ninpo. maybe, if they’re alive, Mikey helps them unlock it.

maybe not. maybe the world is just doomed and there’s nothing Mikey can do about it

we NEVER see a “Shredder won” timeline and that makes me really sad because there’s SO MANY things you could do with it!!

Guessing the characters sexualites in rottmnt can range from "I honestly cannot tell if Leo is a closeted bi man, extremely gay or aroace, it could be any of those and I would not be surprised" to when I first saw Donnie show up on-screen, I pulled this thing because I knew this man is bisexual the second he breathed

Thoughts on Portal Duo?

ANYWAYS! Portal duo! Rise Leo and Mikey yes yes lets see

Portal duo is one of those duos that I dont think of As Much in the context of Rise if I'm being fully honest, but theres still a thing or two to pick at. Actually we gonna explore Mikey and Leo quite a bit in tmnteh and I plan on doing so too in my Other Iteration but thats besides the point

In Rise, Mikey looks up to Leo a BIG deal. In The Lair Games, actually, during one of the interview sections, Mikey has a lil panel saying "deeply concerned about his 2nd favourite bro" in reference to Donnie which you COULD argue is a joke- but oh no no no, we taking EVERYTHING seriously in this house. If we take that Donnie is Mikey's 2nd fave bro, we also needa consider Mikey's relationship with Raph and how they're not the closests (more on that another day) so then by elimination we have that Mikey's favourite brother is Leo. Which is interesting, to say the least, as Smarts and Crafts is one of The Biggest duo with The Most moments in Rise. Mikey and Donnie are atached at the hip they are always together so its strange that Leo wins n1. However, we do need to look at the difference between Mikeys relationship with both twins

I think Mikey IS Donnie's favourite brother simply because of how much time they spend together and the way Donnie's treated by Mikey compared to the other two. Leo is the one who bullies Donnie most and Raph talks down to Donnie sometimes, meanwhile Donnie and Mikey are often on the same wavelength and feed off of each others energy. Those dont really fight. The thing about Mikey and Donnie that we need to understand later for Mikey and Leo is that Mikey and Donnie see each other as equals. Even though Mikey's younger than the twins, him and Donnie stand on similar footing, they're each others best friends.

Meanwhile, Mikey and Leo's relationship does have some imbalances. There arent many episodes dedicated to Portal Duo (the one that pops to my head is The Gumbus and thats it but I may be forgetting some) so theres not That much to build up from. However, what we can tell is that Mikey greatly looks up and admires Leo, unlike with Donnie, where they stand on similar footing. We can even try to tie this admiration of Leo with their character designs

In the s1 finale, we see some designs for how the tmnt looked as little kids. These designs are rivalred by Other tot designs that were used in a short and also apear in the artbook, but we dont care about those. what matters is the masks. In this apareance, Raph, Donnie and Mikey all have a durag style mask that covers their forehead while Leo is tied across his forehead and is just one strip. Later on, looking at the Hamato Clan designs for the tmnt, all their masks are the durag style. With that information, we can infer that the durag style is the base/orginal style mask that the tmnt wore as children, as its the hamato one, and Leo was the first to look for an alternative mask style as a child. Mikey, who also started with the same style as the other two, changed his mask to resemble Leo's because he looks up to him

This admiration and looking to to Leo that Mikey has can also be observed in their behaviour. As mentioned, Leo bullies Donnie more than the other siblings (I have taken notes on this). Can be argued its a sibling back and forth except Donnie doesnt bite back as much its this whole other issue we dont have to get into. Whats important about this point is the way that Mikey copies Leo. Leo has a snarkier attitude and is more prone to teasing, its natural of him as someone with very quick thinking and a more relaxed exterior attitude. Meanwhile Mikey apears more as just Trying To Be Cool, and who's this "cool" he's basing himself off of? Leo. Leo makes jabs at people and Leo's cool, so doing this makes Mikey cool too. We can infer this is the thought process because Raph doesnt exibit this behaviour and Leo's are more frequent, ergo Mikey learns from Leo

And it makes sense why Mikey would look up to Leo. Raph is their leader, but he's also the eldest brother and has had to take up a caretaking position for his younger brothers, which leads him to infantilize them, moreso for Mikey and Donnie. This infantilization hurts and anoys Mikey as it feels like an attack on his independence and autonomy (as seen in Hot Soup: The Game) which makes his relationship with Raph be strained. Donnie and Mikey are both targets of Raphs infantilization when Leo isn't, and Donnie's disabilities make him on-par with Mikey's youth. They're more underdog, its just them against the world, theyre equals, Mikey sees Donnie in a more grounded way than he does Leo.

Leo IS Very Cool TM, moreso for Mikey. Up until Lair Games, Leo was the 5 year champion of the game, the one with the best skills, thats easy to look upto. Leo is easy going, goes with the flow, he masks quite a bit but his faceman attitude could fool anyone. He's relaxed, not a worry in the world, efortless in his actions; at least thats how Mikey percieves him. No wonder Mikey wants to Be Like Him

On the flip side, Leo thinks Mikey's cute. He's the adorable youngest sibling so full of sunshine and joy- a little unhinged and thats ok. Leo doesn't see Mikey fully as equal the way Donnie does, but doesn't have Raph's view of the guy either; a sort of in-between. In Hot Soup: The Game, Leo is the one advocating for Mikey to go on his solo mission. He recognizes Mikey's youth and inexperience but wants to push him to grow and become a better version of himself. We see this desire to foster Mikey's growth too in Newsworthy i think it is, where Mikey dresses up as a hyppo to try catch Hypno. Leo is hyping Mikey up, encourraging him on

Ok ok actually You Got Served has a few interesting things lets see

You Got Served does tie into what I said of Mikey looking up to Leo and Leo seeing Mikey as Cute Little Guy because it challenges that dynamic actually

Mikey looks up to Leo, he thinks Leo is cool, and Leo is always in first place, Leo's a winner, etc. So when Mikey is able to beat Leo it gets to his head. Mikey is a caring person, but also a selfish one, often focusing much more on himself than others, so he fails to see how the events of the episode are affecting Leo. Mikey is too caught up in his own head; he beat Leo, and if Leo's the best, it means Mikey's now the best too! Mikey is babied by Raph, so this is a huge achievement for Mikey. He acts a bit full of himself, he wants to ride that high in a way that can be reminiscent of how Leo acts in certain episodes

Meanwhile, Leo sees Mikey as a Little Guy. He's the Youngest Sibling, he's Tiny, and while Leo doesnt act the same way Raph does he still fundamentally sees Mikey as smaller, younger and less experienced than him. Theres a power dynamic in their relationship where Leo is Cool and Mikey Looks Up To Him. Leo is aware of this and actually takes pride in it. It helps his ego, having a tiny guy following him around hyping him up. So when Mikey beats him and starts gloating, it disturbs the power dynamic and fucks Leo up. Leo is deeply insecure, we know this, and Mikey being "under him" is a reasurance for him. Now, that's gone. It's same story as The Lair Games. Leo sees himself as above Donnie and Mikey in some way, and he bases his identity on this sense of superiority because if thats gone, whats left of him? In these episodes, the power dynamic is disturbed; Donnie starts winning games, Mikey starts beating Leo. Leo freaks out and overcompensates, trying to drive his brothers down to keep his self image as intact as posible

Leo wants to see Mikey succeed, but struggles with Mikey being better than him because he doesnt want to be left behind or lose relevance.
