Hey, name's Marble Pop. Full-time glassworker and ceramicist, 24/7 recluse, and a zone weed dealer. But, uh, keep quiet about that, will you?

Demisexual, no gender preference. She/it preferred, but I couldn't give more of a shit about what you call me if I tried. A little over 18.

@pieces-and-parts, my favorite gearhead and a regular buyer. I don't trust many others. I'm a bit of a whatshername to most. I'll talk about zoneweed with tags. Let me know if you got any questions, 'kay?

OTHER CHARACTER INFO

Lives just outside Picket Fence 3 in her workshop, an abandoned bakery that she's customized into a glass/ceramics studio. It's secluded, but she'll give most killjoys refuge in a pinch if they find it.

Grows her own zoneweed due to a patch of brown sugar behind her shop. Has set traps around the plants.

OBSESSED with atomic twists and howlers, will trade to get more.

Usually leaves her jacket in the shop, since she doesn't get out that often. Often, when she does wear it, she ties it around her waist.

Not currently in a gang, but was previously in one that got ghosted. Former Gravehead.

(She unleashes ghost hellfire on the swarm of bugs, double-deadifying them. However that works.)

[ Krash goes through a. Lot of emotions in this moment. First of all, thank you Marble for destroying the bugs. Why were there bugs? Who keeps sending Krash bug-related things every month or two? WHY do they do this? Krash is grateful for Marble and confused.

And then the bigger feelings.

Like since when was Marble also dead?

How did Marble die?

Was this real? Was anything real?

Krash can't find the words to say anything. They just stare at their friend and bug savior. Who happens to be dead. ]

(Once she’s positive all the bugs are dead, she kind of just tosses the items up and they vanish, like they were never there. She doesn’t have pockets or a bag. She seems to have died in an oversized t-shirt and some funky-patterned socks. That’s it. She’s horribly thin, even as a ghost.

She turns around to Krash, eyeing them briefly. They look just how she remembers. Her expression flickers with happiness before it falters into a quivering lip, then ghost tears. Then, without a second to waste, she’s clinging to them in a ghost hug. It doesn’t matter if it’s not realistic, they’re cute. Fuck you.)

[ Krash doesn't hug back immediately. Not becsuse they wouldn't, but because they're still processing... this. It takes a few seconds for them to finally wrap their ghostly arms around Marble. Krash is suddenly intensely more aware of the bullet hole going directly through their right eye. ]

.....you're dead.

(She doesn’t let go, obviously, her hands gripping the fabric covering their back. She nods a little, sniffling. She isn’t really crying, it was just a reaction. Sort of like when a baby hears a loud noise and freaks out, but in a good way. She relaxes a little before responding in a dehydrated croak.)

.. Yeah. I lasted a while, didn’t I?

(She giggles a little, despite the circumstances.)

Longer than me.

[ Krash stares off behind Marble, gripping her just as tightly as she grips Krash. They don't know how to feel. They feel everything. At the same time, they feel nothing. ]

And Spare.

(Her jaw tightens at that. She feels oddly guilty. Guilty for living so much longer than the people she loved so much. So much longer than the people who deserved to.

And for what? She just laid around, helpless. She didn’t deserve more time. She didn’t even use it.

Her grip tightens. She doesn’t want to look at Krash, she just wants to hold them. She’s scared of what they think about the whole situation. What they think of her, now that it’s been so long.)

… I didn’t want to. I just couldn’t.. I couldn’t make myself end it any sooner. I was scared.

…

I was scared to see you again, you and spare, but I wanted to so badly.

(She almost feels remorseful, alongside her mourning and the searing guilt ripping through her. Every emotion churns through her. Or, well, the absence of her.)

[ Krash brings a hand up, burying it in Marble's hair and holding her closer.]

You shouldn't feel guilty about that. Hell, I'da hope you'd outlive us till you were fuckin' seventy. I went because I was fed up with livin' and found an easy out, and Spare just... followed. You shouldn't- You shouldn't feel guilty about that.

[ Suicide. For the first time, Krash said it out loud. It was practically suicide. They hold Marble closer, as close as physically possible. ]

(She tucks her face into Krash’s shoulder as they bury a hand in her scruffy hair, barely concealing more ghost tears. She missed this. She missed any kind of contact, really, but Witch, she missed Krash the most.

She manages to mumble-croak something out while choking back her crying.)

But I missed you. I wasn’t with you.

(She swallows the lump in her throat thickly before continuing to talk, still a bit choked up.)

.. It’s probably not as big of a deal as I think it is. But we both know.. we both know I wasn’t going to last very long anyway.

Especially not alone.

(Her arms are weakly wrapped around Krash’s back. She can’t make herself hold them any closer, not because she doesn’t want to, but because she died so much weaker than she lived. She’s glad Krash is able to keep her close.)

[Krash slowly lowers both of them to the ground, sitting with Marble tucked against their chest.]

How... How did you go out?

(She leans completely against them, not worried about weighing them down anymore mostly because of the ghost thing but also partially because she knows she wouldn’t weigh much even if she wasn’t incorporeal. She raises her head just a little to talk, pushing her head into their hand.)

.. I’m not really sure what got me first. Starvation, dehydration, organ failure.. some combination of them, probably. I don’t remember when, but I ran out of tears at some point. I don’t remember a lot altogether, though, honestly.

(She sounds even more guilty to admit it. She feels pathetic.)

.. I couldn’t even make myself do anything with my extra time.

[ Krash speaks softly. They feel horrid for what Marble went through. They could have done something, ANYTHING. And yet they couldn't. ]

(She thinks about that question. She thinks about it for a good amount of time. She doesn’t know how to put it into words, really. The thought of feeling every part of you slowly dry out and start to rot, it makes her beyond sick. She tucks closer, her lips tugging into a disgusted frown, both at herself and at the memory.)

[ Krash holds Marble closer, trying to comfort them as much as possible. It doesn't feel like enough. It never feels like enough. ]

(She curls up against Krash, rocking a little as she tries to will the thought away. It’s hard to make it go away. She can still smell that sickly-sweet stench of rotting meat if she thinks hard enough. She lets out a little wince, making herself uncomfortable with the memories of it all. She needs something, anything to distract herself.)

… There was someone who came to help, at least for a day or so. Her name.. she…

(Marble thinks really hard, eventually coming up with it.)

Her name was Haven. She made me soup, and everything.

.. Witch, I miss soup…

(She giggles a little.)

[ Krash ruffles Marble's hair. ]

What kinda soup did she make? She makes a lot of good soups.

(She pauses for a moment, almost sinking into that thought, but brushing it off for now. Or, well, pushing it aside to obsess over later. For now, she answers the question.)

.. I don’t really remember. All I know was that it was the best soup I’ve ever had. Then again, I think I hadn’t eaten for a couple weeks at that point, so..

(She smiles as they ruffle her hair, sitting up a bit to actually get a good look at their face. She missed it. She cradles their cheek in her hand, rubbing over it slowly with her thumb. She’s soft. Softer than she’s been since she died.)

… I missed seeing your face. When I tried to remember you, you looked fuzzy. Now you’re all clear.

[ Krash smiles, a sad smile. They still don't know how to feel, bouncing between emotions. ]

I'm happy you're not suffering anymore. Sorry I look a bit uh... rough.

[ Krash motions to the gaping bullet hole through their skull. You know. Cutesy things. ]

It’s okay.. I know I don’t look my best, either.

(Her hand moves down to their shoulder, her hands thinner than they were before. Her smile dissipates a bit.)

(Marbs materializes out of nowhere, kind of just floating. Her lower half is very ghosty, at least for the moment, but the rest of her is visible. She pokes Xenon on the top of the head, then floats a little bit up so he can’t reach her, smiling.)

(She drifts away and finds her own stick, picking it up and turning around so she has her own weapon.)

(She does a little squiggly finger wiggle at Xenon to emphasize the ghostiness. She then puts her arm down, glancing over Xenon.)

(he frowns, still trying to attack her with the stick, failing miserably)

do i look like i got any money? NO!! I DON'T NEEDA BE IN MORE DEBT. PISS OFF

(he throws the stick at her, which ends up on coming back down and bonking him on the head)

ow... can't believe the debt collectors are sendin' ghosts after me now!! this sucks!!

(She ghostily floats a little closer and bonks him (gently) on the head with the end of her stick, then holds the stick with both hands, kind of just looking at him.)

(she picks up some sand and flings it at him, but it doesn’t go very far, kind of just dispersing back onto the ground. She huffs.

The insult makes her clearly offended.)

I’m not freaky??!! excuse you!!

(she grabs the end of the stick and tries to take it back in some godforsaken game of ghost tug-of-war.)

(xenon fights her for the stick, eventually losing grip and falling back onto the ground on his ass. he huffs)

listen man, i'm not about to spend my time fighting a ghost - cuz let me tell you, i'll win. just ask the last guy i fought!! i was all like BAM BAM!! and he was like ow!! then he DIED. so yeah. don't mess with me

(he stands back up, trying to look intimidating)

i don't trust ghosts - always trying to steal my carbons!! but this time, i got no carbons for you to steal from me. so you might as well go off and do whatever it is ghosts do .go on. before i call an exorcist or something

(Once she’s positive all the bugs are dead, she kind of just tosses the items up and they vanish, like they were never there. She doesn’t have pockets or a bag. She seems to have died in an oversized t-shirt and some funky-patterned socks. That’s it. She’s horribly thin, even as a ghost.

She turns around to Krash, eyeing them briefly. They look just how she remembers. Her expression flickers with happiness before it falters into a quivering lip, then ghost tears. Then, without a second to waste, she’s clinging to them in a ghost hug. It doesn’t matter if it’s not realistic, they’re cute. Fuck you.)

[ Krash doesn't hug back immediately. Not becsuse they wouldn't, but because they're still processing... this. It takes a few seconds for them to finally wrap their ghostly arms around Marble. Krash is suddenly intensely more aware of the bullet hole going directly through their right eye. ]

.....you're dead.

(She doesn’t let go, obviously, her hands gripping the fabric covering their back. She nods a little, sniffling. She isn’t really crying, it was just a reaction. Sort of like when a baby hears a loud noise and freaks out, but in a good way. She relaxes a little before responding in a dehydrated croak.)

.. Yeah. I lasted a while, didn’t I?

(She giggles a little, despite the circumstances.)

Longer than me.

[ Krash stares off behind Marble, gripping her just as tightly as she grips Krash. They don't know how to feel. They feel everything. At the same time, they feel nothing. ]

And Spare.

(Her jaw tightens at that. She feels oddly guilty. Guilty for living so much longer than the people she loved so much. So much longer than the people who deserved to.

And for what? She just laid around, helpless. She didn’t deserve more time. She didn’t even use it.

Her grip tightens. She doesn’t want to look at Krash, she just wants to hold them. She’s scared of what they think about the whole situation. What they think of her, now that it’s been so long.)

… I didn’t want to. I just couldn’t.. I couldn’t make myself end it any sooner. I was scared.

…

I was scared to see you again, you and spare, but I wanted to so badly.

(She almost feels remorseful, alongside her mourning and the searing guilt ripping through her. Every emotion churns through her. Or, well, the absence of her.)

[ Krash goes through a. Lot of emotions in this moment. First of all, thank you Marble for destroying the bugs. Why were there bugs? Who keeps sending Krash bug-related things every month or two? WHY do they do this? Krash is grateful for Marble and confused.

And then the bigger feelings.

Like since when was Marble also dead?

How did Marble die?

Was this real? Was anything real?

[There are always shadows in the dark.

Watching.

Waiting.

And this shadow chose to take the form of a well beloved friend. Marble could sense the eyes, the surplus of eyes, and their glaring weight. She could sense the bright red streak running through their hair, and the metallic red staining their clothes.

They could see two bright blue eyes right in front of them, crouched. Messy hair thrown into a ponytail, jacket slung over their dirt-crusted shoulder. They grinned, their smile bloody as blood dripped from their mouth and down their chin.]

" Heya Marbs. "

Marble had spent a concerningly long while isolated in her dusty, heavily-shadowed shop. She'd been alone longer than she normally would be, but it seemed no one cared to come check up on her. Radio transmissions went unanswered, even knocks at the door were ignored in favor of...

Them.

She'd huddled herself into a corner, nothing but a half-empty bottle of water and a blanket to accompany her. She'd moved her furniture around a bit to give herself more space in the corner and to have a clear view of the entire space, despite the dark. She'd nailed up the windows with sheets and bolted both the doors to block out as much light as possible, in fact. It gave her less of an opportunity to picture them. The only thing she could consistently make out were eyes. First, it was only one pair. Then there was two. Then five. Now they were everywhere. They talked to her, mumbling and screaming and constant babbling droning on and on and on, even when she shut her eyes they were right in her ears, taunting her. She'd tried everything to get them to stop. Well, almost everything.

But now, these eyes... These were familiar. The stench of blood filled the entire house, and a freezing chill rolled over the floorboards, making her flinch as the ghostly voice reached her.

She looks up with wide, bloodshot eyes, looking like a bag of bones. Like a starving mouse.

".. Krash?" She asks, her voice barely even a whisper. The raspy, charming quality she had before had intensified to a point where she was barely audible. It hurt to speak at all, even, but she couldn't trust anything she saw anymore. She had to know if it was really them.

" The one and only! Miss me, darling?"

[ Their voice feels like static to her ears. They sit, the movement causing a few drops of blood to drip onto their knees. They continue to smile that horroble fucking smile, too wide, too bright. Unearthly. ]

She cringes at the loudness of their voice over all the others. It was familiar, too familiar, so familiar that it nearly drowned out all the other voices in a painfully relieving manner. She couldn't remember what it was like to just hear one person. But, there was Krash, dribbling blood and talking as if nothing ever happened. But she knew what happened.

Her mind was playing tricks on her.

"... Mhm." She responds, clearly quite hesitant and uneasy. She's shivering, her skin clung tight to her bones. She was wearing a sports bra and a pair of loose shorts, a thin blanket pulled loosely around her shoulders and arms.

Eventually, she manages to will herself forward, crawling desperately toward Krash. Just a few feet forward, but it's enough to be face-to-face. She could almost touch them, but she holds herself back.

"Why.. Why are you here?" She pleads, her voice heartbroken.

" Why not? "

[ The grinning. The bloody, unearthly grinning. Their eyes only seem to get brighter in the room. They disregard Marble's appearance for now. No gushing over trying to help. Just a cold stare. A cold smile. Cold, too cold. ]

" I missed you in hell. "

She remains quiet, pursing her lips a bit as her brows furrow in worry. She can't tell if this is real or not. She can't tell if anything is anymore. This seems more real than the other hallucinations, but maybe it's just because she knows Krash so well.

That smile burns into her, that glare pores holes into her, she can feel it burning her thin skin. Her throat tightens with the mortifying thought of Krash seeing her in this state, but she realizes Krash doesn't look much better. In fact, it makes her realize she could be so much worse.

Eventually, she reaches out a shaky hand, offering it for Krash to take, praying for some kind of contact.

"I missed you, too. So much."

[ Krash hums, putting their hand out. It's less of a friendly gesture, more how a woman may offer her hand to a suitor. Regardless, they take Marble's hand, squeezing it with their own freezing grip. Any warmth in Marble's body evaporates the second they make content. Their hand is stained with blood, likely their own. As soon as the blood is on Marble's hand, it won't go away. Ever. ]

" I'm glad the feeling is mutual. You know, it's freezing in hell. You'd hate it there. "

She didn't have much warmth to begin with, but Witch, is she so much colder now. As she feels the slimy, congealed feeling of Krash's cold blood transferring to her hand, she nearly starts to gag with pure sensory displeasure. And that's a light way of putting it.

She tries so hard to keep her grip on Krash's hand, feeling that it's just like it used to be, but so, so cold. She's even more conflicted now. Soon enough, the freezing, clammy skin starts to hurt her palm, but she doesn't dare let go.

"You're really cold. I thought there'd be, like... Fire, and stuff. In Hell." She mutters, barely able to form coherent hoarse whispers among the chattering of her teeth.

" God would be merciful of that was the case. Alas, he couldn't give less of a shit. "

[ Krash's grip on Marble's hand tightens, only loosening to readjust slightly. ]

" Besides. Wouldn't be eternal torment if I was used to the heat. Instead it's freezing. You go numb, after a while. I hope you see it some day. Feel the cold of death, scream until you finally stop feeling. You loose all sense of time, of space. You spend what feels like eternity just.... losing yourself. Your mind, your body, gone "

[ Krash chuckles, that unearthly grinning almost devilishly large. ]

" Are you ready to lose yourself? "

She winces shakily from the tight grip, fighting the urge to pull away in favor of holding the one she's missed so dearly all this time. She can almost smell the sweet, sickly stench of rotting meat in the room, though that might just be from her pantry.

She almost gave, but manages to swallow the thick lump of acid in her raw throat, letting out a sigh as she does that creates a cloud of warm breath in the cold air.

"I think I already have. Or, I'm almost all the way there." She whimpers, sounding on the verge of tears. She can't stay still, almost feverish jitters writhing beneath her skin, trying to get her to get up and move and warm herself with activity. She remains in the same place, her own grip slightly looser as she begins losing her will.

"Krash, do you think I'm going to die soon?" She questions, not quite desperate for an answer but curious if this is all going to end soon. She wants to feel nothing. She longs to lose everything, but she doesn't say that. She doesn't want to worry them.

" ....I would pray to God that you do. "

[ Krash pulls Marble's hand up, kissing it gently, then dissappear entirely. They leave behind the cold and the stench of meat, but otherwise they're completely gone. Their blood remains on Marble's hand. ]

The 'kiss of death' on the back of her palm makes her gasp, and she quickly curls into a hunch, letting out the breath slowly as it stings her lungs to breathe so sharply. Just as quick as the other voices quieted under Krash's familiarity, they kick right back up again to being unbearably loud, pounding at her head like the bars of a cage. She tries to use her hands to scoot herself back into the corner, but the moment she touches the floor with the hand she was holding Krash with, a jolt of white-hot pain running up her arm and wracking her entire nervous system. She cries out, raising her hand up and trying to ball it into a fist. That makes it so much worse.

Soon enough, she manages to look at her hand, only to notice the thin film of blood and intense, black gangrenous skin coating her bony fingers and most of her palm. She could handle the blood and that saccharine rotting meat smell, but the sight of her own hand half-dead without her even realizing it is too much. She quickly staggers over and heaves at the floorboards, then scrambles her way to the bathroom, just barely making it to the toilet before losing any and all substance she had in her stomach. It wasn't much at all, mostly just acid and water. She didn't stop until she purged herself dry, left sobbing over the porcelain rim and gripping it with her working hand like it owed her money.

After a while, she curls up on the floor, crying relentlessly and hoping to whatever's up there that her organs shut down soon. She doesn't even have the energy to flush the vinegary acid, and as the smell mixes with the rotting meat and metallic blood, she wishes she had more to lose. All she can do is lay there and cry.

She didn't even get to say goodbye.

[ Sharkbone hated when he would have an episode. He'd go to sleep and wake up across the goddamn desert. Today, he found himself not far from Marble's shop, and decided to pay her a visit.

He knocked on the door, and upon not receiving a response, could already tell something was wrong. So he knocked again. Called out. Knocked a third time. Upon another silent pause, he decided to make his way in. He glanced at the bat in his hands, ignoring the blood splattering the sides, and busted open a nearby window. He broke just enough glass to climb inside, tumbling.... not so gracefully onto the shards. He ignored the stinging in his arm as he looked around, horrified by the intense cold and even more terrified by the sight of Marble sobbing in the corner. ]

" Marbs? "

Marble hadn't noticed the knocking, the glass, or the not-so-graceful tumbling entrance Shark had taken into her shop. However, the familiar (but not quite as familiar as Krash's) voice made her flinch hard enough to sit up and shuffle backward. She peers up at Shark with wide, terrified, beyond-pained eyes, her pupils heavily dilated due to the dark environment. The light through the window, although barely anything, makes her sob harder, the pounding in her head intensified by the sunlight. She opts to grab the blanket again and tug it over her back, a little embarrassed to be wearing so little in front of an acquaintance, at best. It doesn't do much at all to cover her up, if anything just making the ridges of her spine and ribs more clear on her back. She tries to speak, but it comes out in the same barely-audible wheeze.

"You're not real. You can't be real." She sobs hoarsely.

[ Sharkbone stares, horrified at the very least at the sight in front of him. He stands, leaving the bat next to the window and walking over to Marble. He looks confused, reaching out a gentle hand to try and help. He's warm. A normal amount of warm, a REAL about of warm. ]

Marbs... what happened to you?

When his hand makes contact with the skin of her shoulder, the blanket having slipped down, she feels almost like a corpse. She's freezing cold, shivering in fact, her skin covered in goosebumps and feeling thin and weak. It's as if poking her too hard would punch a hole through her.

She grunts painfully at the touch, only shaking more and curling further in on herself as she feels the warmth of the hand. It takes her a solid few moments to even register the warmth of a living, breathing person, and eventually, she softens up a little and leans back into the hand ever so slightly. She feels bony, lethargic with whatever hellish combination of self-neglect she's been through.

She still can't trust it. She can't trust the signs of life. She isn't even showing many of them herself.

"You're warm. Why are you warm? They're-they're never.. Warm." She mumbles feverishly, shaking her head a little with confusion and fear. Whatever happened, it wasn't good.

[ Sharkbone pulls Marble into a hug, holding her as tightly and as gently as possible. ]

What's never warm, Marble?

Marble sort of awkwardly shimmies around until she's facing Shark, not having the energy to raise her arms and return the hug and just leaning into him instead. She lets out a long sigh, ending in a wince.

"The ghosts. Eyes, the eyes. They're not warm. But you're warm, I... I don't understand. How are you warm but not real?" She questions, mostly talking to herself. Her words are a little louder, now that she's been talking for a few minutes, but they're still just barely whispers. It's painful to think about how she got to this point, what she's been doing or... More accurately, not doing in here all this time.

She seems to be covering one of her hands, hovering it in her lap instead of resting it on her leg like her other hand.

"Oh, Marbles."

[ Sharkbone rubs her back, focusing in calming her down to start. He takes note of the hidden hand. ]

" I'm real, Marbles. I promise you, I'm real. No eyes, no cold, just.... real. "

She shudders at the assurances, stubborn.

"No." She grunts firmly, as serious as she can manage. Though, she still sounds quiet tearful. "No, that's.. That's what they all tell me. I don't.."

She trails off, mumbling incoherently before going fully quiet. She clings one arm around Shark, gripping at his clothes, trailing her frail fingers over his back and shoulders. She can't believe it, she won't. It's been such a long time, this can't be it.

This can't be real.

She swallows hard, eventually letting her arm come back to her lap. She seems numb, yet entirely devastated at the same time.

"I don't know if I'm real anymore."

" Marbles.... "

[ Sharkbone gently lifts their hands, looking them over and... staring at the frostbite. Frostbite. In the middle of the desert. He immediately looks around, and then picks Marble up. ]

"I'm setting you on the couch, ok? And I'm going to fix up your hand. And I'm going to prove to you that I'm real."

She whines as she's scooped up, limp and uncomfortable to hold in pretty much any orientation. She's so worn down, it's like holding a skeleton draped in cloth.

She doesn't respond to the insistence, barely even seeming conscious, barely seeming alive besides her breathing and blinking.

"Mm." She eventually hums, finally actually managing a voice-like sound among the dozens of hissing whispers she's been managing until now.

[ Sharkbone sets Marble down on the couch, immediately searching for medical supplies. Once he finds what he can, he gets to work on fixing her hand, then puts his jacket around her. He'll find another blanket later. His next step? Soup. Probably a broth of some sort. Something plain. He passes the bathroom, notices the unflushed vomit toilet, and flushes it before going to the kitchen to make soup. ]

Despite how much she's already cried, despite how little she's consumed, how dehydrated she must be at this point, she manages to stain her tears glossy as he attempts to fix her hand. Clearly, some antibiotic and bandages aren't going to do much, but she appreciates the effort. She appreciates Shark getting her off the floor, for being the most real thing she's seen in months.

She isn't keeping her hopes high that he's actually real. Maybe this is one big hallucination, her 7 minutes in heaven before she meets the witch for one last cold, unforgiving time. She's tasted hell, smelled it. Felt it gripping her hand, smiling down at her. She doesn't want to get out of this. No matter what happens, no matter if she gets better or worse, she'll always keep her scars. And she won't keep her hand.

As she listens to him move around the space, the sounds in her head become more intense again. Curling up in the jacket is her only respite, the familiar scent and much-needed warmth providing a sort of solace in the middle of it all. She manages to get most of herself covered by it, curling her knees to her concave stomach and making herself as small as possible.
