Maryana has dragon dreams. The dreams started after her grandfather, lord Ardrian Celtigar, guided her around the treasure room 'neath their castle and pointed out the most precious item hidden within - a fossilized dragon egg; The poor thing has been there for ages, peeking out from behind all the treasure the Celtigars accumulated over the years, and it's covered in so much dust that it's not even possible to make out the colour of its shell.

Such mystery prompted Maryana to try and imagine how it might look like, though she never quite settled on the colour. At first it was light green, the colour of grass; Then it became blue, like the colour of the sea outside; Further it became a pinkish white, like a seashell. It's a shame that she'll never be able to find out its true colours, because not only it's nigh impossible to take it out, but also because of its state - surely, if she tried to touch it even with just one finger, it'll crumble to dust !

She dreamed it too, one night, after reading books about dragons all day. In it, the dragon egg cracked open, and a weak cry came from within, which became louder, sounding almost inquisitive once a little, scaled head peeked out the opening it made in the shell at what of world it was able to see from its position. Another night, it tumbled out the shell, shaking itself free of sticky egg fragments, spreading its wings as much as it could; It was so realistic, that Maryana woke up with a start, and crept out her room to venture in the treasure room. No cry echoed around the room, no sound of wings flapping cut the silence - it was all a dream, much to her sadness and disappointment, and she attributed them ( and the following dreams ) to her books and her imagination, unaware that, across the sea, three dragons hatched from their eggs and their song echoed in the air for the first time in years.
