Question, do yall think up conversations with your f/os?

I feel pretty much the same as you said in tags. I find it hard to think of their actual responses even if I can picture their mannerisms and speech patterns pretty well. I mean, the biggest part of talking to another person is that they have a different perspective and experiences to yours and that's kind of hard to imagine in a natural feeling way,, and yeah, I feel like I'm projecting what I want to hear too. And maybe it's a bit immersion breaking too, reminds me selfshipping is just me echoing stuff back to myself. Trying to imagine conversation kinda feels like playing with a sock puppet.

I do script conversations for pieces of writing with them, but I don't daydream about our conversations much if at all. I do find guessing what they'd say kind of hard in writing as well, but at least there the dialogue is meant to serve a purpose in the story, rather than only meaning to be in-character, if that makes sense.

I've actually been thinking lately about the fact that I don't, and how this is connected to the relationship between friendship and romance, if that makes any sense,, obviously irl I'd want to be friends with my partner, and having interesting, easy (as in, we can speak freely) conversations is a big part of that. (I'm pretty awkward irl with most people so I'm always excited to find someone I click with.)

But that just doesn't feel possible with selfshipping, where I'm just not in the character's head. Like I said, the point of conversation is kind of that you aren't the other person and don't know what they're going to say, and in selfshipping you kind of are. In a way.

So . I guess that big lacking aspect is kind of why I can selfship with characters I'm genuinely not sure if I would get on with in real life (these usually don't constitute my "ultimate" ships, but still, worthy of note), and why sometimes the romance part, the actiosn of which i find much easier to imagine than the actual material words of conversation, feels much more convincing and easier to build than the bond of friendship.

Bc I can only make my best guess based on what I know about them, and I can only ever pretend to be surprised.

#obligatory thank you for reading hope you're well btw #been feeling this for leon strohl a lot lately; a character i probably wouldn't self ship w in the traditional sense but who i've been.#thinking about lately. i like him a lot but my attempts to script him often feel unnatural or forced to me and i'm not sure why.#i think he'd be pleasant to talk to though. we don't really see that many examples of him talking in nomal #mundane situations seeing as we have to kill the king ingame or whatever #anyway. interesting
