A-frame. Post pandemic travel is now a thing... but it is more thought out and locations including outdoor activities are more popular than ever. Not surpisingly cabins and other places you can enjoy in relative solitude are becoming destinations in and of themselves.
This A-frame chalet with mountain (and sunrise) views is just that. This simple icon manages to capture the sun, mountains and cabin of one of my fav hide-aways!
Know your audience. Know your ingredients: The Clean Candle approached me for some business / branding strategy. We landed on a new name that brought the target audience into the forefront by calling on the unique Aspen lifestyle... clean and simple. A new identity system and packaging design reintroduces Aspen Clean Candle to Colorado boutiques and to the world online.
I updated the Berea College Student Craft logo by recalling the "Student Industries” mark within the College’s historically important Labor Program developed in the early 1920’s and used through the 70s.
The group in the 20s tasked with this project was made up of friends of the college, trustees, and Anna Ernberg, Head of the College’s weaving program. The individuals involved were all experts in the early and developing field of “Branding”. They were, Bruce Barton; Mr. Barton is most famous for the unification of the Fisher Family brands into the unified General Motors. His NYC ad agency is considered one of the pioneers in branding. William Danforth, CEO of Ralston Purina. Under Danforth’s leadership Purina developed and unified its products under the still used “Purina Checkerboard”, a masterful use of logo and brand consolidation. Wallace Nutting; Mr. Nutting’s use of branding and labeling on his reproduction furniture is well known (and examples can be seen today across the Berea College campus). His influence on Craft at Berea as a whole and in Woodcraft in particular can not be overstated.
Since the 1970s several different logos (and names) were used for the program. I worked closely with Student Craft Director, Aaron Beale to reimagine the Industries logo while taking flexibility and modern digital needs into consideration.
Next we reshot all new product photos and provided art direction for catalog images. We designed a new print and e-catalog highlighting the products, the process and the students. Lastly I oversaw design and development of a new website showcasing the new brand and photography.
Think Globally: Grand Passages is travel advisor with a strong social media presences. They needed a digitally sophisticated icon and branding system. The new logo is old-world nostalgic while working great on social media.
Experience Matters: Science and art came together for this branding and collateral for Copperhead Environmental Consulting.
Copperhead specializes in environmental regulatory compliance and ecological inventories. They conduct projects throughout the United States in a wide variety of habitats and are dedicated to providing high quality environmental services to our clients.
I created a design solution that highlighted not only their commitment to the environment but also their expertise. I then translated their brand across wayfinding, signage, collateral materials including trade show environment, branded gear that the team wears in the field, a new website and the obligatory pint glasses.
Outdoor Aesthetic: Graphic Design studio merch / outdoors stuff
Crosshatch Design Co. was established as an outlet to create 'merch' for a branding and graphic design studio. Inspired by the outdoors... but also food, art and music that we love about the Denver area. All the designs are created in-house as an exercise in graphic design and illustration.

Three and a Five: Thirty-Five Lines is a new online retailer. They asked for a flexible identity system that would work on their wide-ranging lifestyle products as well as work for social media and their e-commerce platform.
Creative Annual Report
The art museum at UK got some cool new merch for members and patrons! They asked me to come up with secondary branding that played up the different sides of their collection.
The UK Museum season booklet got a major revamp. I changed the size and the formatting to be bolder but yet more adaptive to content types. Also upped their game with the paper! It’s the little things that take good design to great.
Keep in Touch: I developed direct-mail pieces for UK College of Fine Arts recruitment. All collateral was part of a comprehensive marketing and strategic branding initiative that included cohesive language, photography and art direction. It created a sense of belonging and excitement for perspective and new students. The result was higher turnout to information sessions and orientation events.
