You could be having the most fucked up problematic thoughts 24/7 but if you treat people with kindness, the good you do is the only thing that matters. But if you have only the purest thoughts and all the correct beliefs, it doesn't matter one bit if you spend most of your time being an asshole to people.

I think the thing about ST in S1 that sucked me in was what it had to say about family and community and how those shape, help, and harm. It's just so focused on human connection and the power of that and what the lack of it does, and that got me. The love and the cruelty. The very human desire to aid and protect—the impact and significance of that desire, but also the limits. The intentionality of it all and how much of it was unsaid but came through so clearly.

Not to beat a dead horse, but that's probably the biggest victim of the increasing insistence on spectacle over substance, consistency, or character.
