[Margot steps into the breakroom silently. Fran entered 5 minutes ago to end his shift and has fallen asleep. This happens frequently now. He must not sleep well at his home.
She stands over him and stares. She isn't really sure why she does this, but it's become routine.
It makes her feel like a cat watching a mouse. She could kill her here. It would be easy. No one's in the restaurant. The night shift isn't even here yet. It would be covered up.
But she doesn't. She doesn't really want to, to be honest. For one, Margot is certain the work will do it for her eventually. Secondly, She's quite honestly a very convinent worker to have. For all of the bitching Fran does online, she hasn't once complained to higher management about anything. Not about being sent to strange locations, not about the break ins, not about her coworkers, and nothing about the job itself. Not that that would matter. Higher management doesn't particularly care.
As much as Francis annoys her, he has one very good thing going for him. He will do what he's told.
Fran starts to mumble in his sleep. After a few seconds he bolts upright, back of his head smashing into her nose. The pain reminds her of her general annoyance with him as he pulls on his coat and fumbles out the door]
[Margots hand has been healing well. She told everyone she had an accident with a knife, and everyone seemed to accept it. Including Francis, strangely enough, who didn't call her on the bluff. Not that Francis is brave enough to do that anyway.
It really was strange that Francis would even have the ability to fight the rabbit back. She'd seen him scared plenty of times and watched the clear signs of flight in her need for movement. If anything, Francis strayed towards fawn. Fight wasn't something Francis had in her.
Something changed during the fight. A different side of Fran came out. Margot decides she likes this one decidedly less than the first.]
Margot stares at Francis, who sits accross from her at the desk. Francis is peering down at the mug of coffee she had slid across to him like it might contain poison. Slowly, he picks up the cup, and takes a sip.
"So, tell me about how you've been since the hospital."
The coffee is extremely bitter, and Fran tries her best not to make a face. He smiles awkwardly as he answers, not looking his boss in the eye, instead staring at a brightly colored 'hang in there' poster.
"I'm good. It was nothing really, just a minor injury. Im good to work now"
She's holding her breath after he talks. Please just end it there. She tentatively starts to stand, hoping to leave the room.
Margot smiles as Fran got up.
"You'll be good to take an extra shift this week then? I need someone to take a shift here on Wednesday."
Fran has to use all of his brain power to not groan.
"Are you sure no one else.. wants it? I mean, Rose has-"
She cuts herself off. Margot is still smiling the same cold and detached smile. The one that says you don't really have a choice. He sighs and nods.
"I mean. What time will I be working?"
"You'll be working the overnight"
She tilts her head
"Will that work for you?"
Francis sighs. Maybe she can get someone else to pick it up for her if she takes it now.
"Yeah, that works. Am I free to go?"
Margot nods, and Francis scrambles out of the office. They feel like they just got tricked into something, but they don't really want to think about that right now. He just wants to leave the building.
Once Fran leaves the building, a shiver runs up their spine. She tries not to think about it. It's probably fine.

[Margot watches the footage of Frans first night shift again. Something about it irks her, and she can not quite name what.
Margot would like to think that she knows her employees fairly well. Francis is not good at surviving. She's watched as he's fumbled through life the past five years. He never seems to have moved in life at all. She knows at one point he meant to go to college for art, or animation, or something flowery like that.
She reverses the video and watches again. Fran barely closes the door in time. She doesn't seem nearly scared enough for what she's going through.
She reverses it again. Francis is nothing. Margot has known this from the second she hired him. He was born nothing, he will die nothing, like everyone she hires. She smiles at one of her employees as she walks by the office, bright and happy, before returning to the video.
She does not have much sympathy for her employees. They are all drifters and would likely die somewhere else anyway. So she knows she's not feeling guilty about letting her in harms way.
She lands on it being a morbid fascination. That's what makes the most sense, after all. Fran is just an object of interest because, by all means, he simply shouldn't be alive. Margot decides she wants to figure out what tethers Francis to the earth so strong. Time to watch.]
