I'm pleased with this work week. There is a particular kind of silence in the studio, that I haven't found elsewhere. . Some years ago, still getting used to working full time as an artist, this silence felt scary. Now it's something I dive into, at times with music, at other times as if it were a snowy open landscape, still untouched by wind, or pawprints. . I respect it, though, this quietude. The majesty of it. -- Olen niin tyytyväinen tähän työviikkoon. Ateljeessa, oman työn äärellä, on läsnä ihan omanlaisensa hiljaisuus, jollaista en ole löytänyt muualta. -- Aloittaessani täyspäivätyön omalla ateljeella vuosia sitten, tämä äänettömyys oli melkein pelottavaa, vähintään painostavaa. . Nykyään sukellan siihen joko musiikin siivittämänä tai joskus kuin lumiseen maisemaan, johon tuuli tai tassunjäljet eivät ole vielä kajonneet. . A favorite detail from what I'm working on now. . I was talking to someone the other day saying: This may not feel supportive, but it is meant that way. It isn't easy anywhere. . This is not to say we don't enjoy moments of ease, grace, flow at times. But easy? I wouldn't count on it. What do you nourish yourself with, what do you lean into, in order to be able to do your heart's work? For me, today, I lean into taekwondo practice yesterday, starting to understand why the way I choose to be aware of where I position the weight of my body matters. I lean into the artists that have come before me, who have struggled with the same questions I am in relationship with now, and whose truths have become known in the world (as well as all those artists, equally valiant, that for many reasons remain unknown). And I lean into the knowledge of so many phenomena in the world bigger than me, and rest easily in my smallness, as I open up to what wants to flow through me onto the canvas today. This is a tiny painting, just 35x27cm. I've been gazing at it a lot lately, as I've ridden the wave of swiftly changing circumstances and the accompanying emotional reactions inside of me. My intention has been to keep moving (not get stuck), to lean into support instead of taking things personally, and to keep asking for the next step, taking it decisively as it is shown to me. On the agenda today; bake surprise mudcake for tomorrow's birthday girl. Pack miniversion of studio into brave turquoise bag. Lead a group of life coaches to be into even more contact with their creativity and see what we can create together. Come home and wrap presents. ❤️ What I so appreciate in my life is the amount of love that flows through it. Love for my family, friends, clients, art, business and creativity. A detail from a work in progress called "Some hearts bleed color". It is a tribute to all of us who have worked for years with trauma in various ways, and whose hearts keep expressing their truth in colors, words, rhythm and movement. Sometimes I am told things akin to "Why paint painful things?" Why not make it pretty/happy/light/fun/fill-in-the-blank? Well, first of all art doesn't quite work like that (at least for me). I paint what I'm given. Period. Second of all, joy and happiness are just two of the emotions that flow through us - anger, shame, guilt, anxiety, love, panic and sadness are a few of the others. All essential in their own right, they all have their rightful place. Some are more uncomfortable than others, and may need lots of support to be allowed to move, depending on where we are in relationship with them. And last but not least, although I have done my fair share of spiritual bypassing in my wishes and dreams, art & everyday life has never allowed for anything except the whole [of my] truth, as it flows through my hands in the moment. So, from my heart to yours, wishing you a continued flow of expression & creation today, whatever your medium. ❤️ And a wave of the brush for your perseverance. 🌸🌱 (at Crealife)

There's something so beautiful about this. It's the way I feel closest to Source, this everyday beauty that turns up when I'm doing something arbitrary. Makes me stop in my tracks. Breathe deeper. See the world in a new way.

Painting as landscape. With my newer work, I so often hear "Oh this is completely different in person!". This is because of the textures and of the way light affects the layered colors, bringing out different sides of the painting's character. When I started out wanting to create jewel-like paintings, I conveniently forgot how difficult gems are to photograph. 😂 (at Crealife)
