The strongest people make time to help others, even if they are struggling with their own problems.

Before and after. Before I got sober I got the chemical structures for Delta 9 Tetrahydrocannabinol and Cannabidiol tattooed on me. I just got it covered up after over 10 months of sobriety. It basically tells the story of my addiction in an image.

LONG-TERM HOPE
Since most of us are born with an abundance of natural desires, it isnât strange that we often let these far exceed their intended purpose. When they drive us blindly, or we willfully demand that they supply us with more satisfactions or pleasures than are possible or due us, that is the point at which we depart from the degree ofâŠ

Non-cutesy self-care tips
Have you been eating well? If not, eat a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. You need vitamins; you need protein.
Youâre probably not drinking enough water.
When is the last time you showered? Take a cold shower to wake you up or a hot shower if you need to relax.
Do the laundry thatâs been piling up. Youâve been wearing that sweatshirt for too long.
Take care of the dishes in the sink that have been there for three days and have started to stress you out.
Did you brush your teeth this morning? How about your hair?
Listen to the messages on your phone that have been there for days.
Go outside for at least a couple minutes. You donât even have to do anything; just sit down. Breathe in the fresh air and get some vitamin D.
Open your blinds. Your room is too dark and itâs probably making you tired.
Spend some time with your pet. Pet them, feed them, take them for a walk or clean out their litterbox. Caring for them will make you feel useful and responsible and give you something to do.
The self-care posts that tell you to take a bath and eat chocolate and read a book are good, but do what needs to be done first. Eating chocolate when you havenât showered in four days and you canât remember when the last time you changed your underwear was wonât make you feel better. It will probably make you feel worse. Clean yourself up; clean your surroundings up. Then take care of the little things. Tackle life one thing at a time.
One of the best lessons is seeing your old self in others. I never like it and that's why I get so frustrated with them, but it shows me that I have a life with a real purpose now. I don't feel like I need to hide things from others to live life happily. There also comes a point where you just need to let go and hope they figure it out for theirselves. All I can do is pray that things work out and they realize that God is on their side.
May 28 Grapevine Quote âIf I was to recover the wholeness, the oneness of my personality, if I truly wanted a rebirth of my human spirit, a taste of the joy of living, then ⊠I had to surrender, not only to alcohol as an alcoholic, but to life as a person.â

What is a Sponsor?
What is a Sponsor?
Sponsors are an essential part of the 12-step process. In the literature of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), which created the 12-step program, members select someone they can feel comfortable with and with whom they can talk freely and confidentially, and ask that person to be their sponsor. Sponsorship is a basic part of the AA approach to recovery and itâs also integral to other 12-step fellowshipsâŠ

12 Step Basics
The 12-step addiction recovery program is the heart of Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), co-founded by Bill Wilson, who developed the 12 steps of AA. Since 1935, this community-based, mutual-support program has been helping alcoholics get and stay sober. The 12-step model has been adapted and applied to many other types of addiction treatment. There are, in fact, 12-step-inspired programs for every kindâŠ

A LIST OF BLESSINGS One exercise that I practice is to try for a full inventory of my blessings⊠â AS BILL SEES IT, p. 37 What did I have to be grateful for? I shut myself up and started listing the blessings for which I was in no way responsible, beginning with having been born of sound mind and body. I went through seventy-four years of living right up to the present moment. The list ran to two pages, and took two hours to compile; I included health, family, money, A.A. â the whole gamut. Every day in my prayers, I ask God to help me remember my list, and to be grateful for it throughout the day. When I remember my gratitude list, itâs very hard to conclude that God is picking on me.

May 21, 2015 - Readings in Recovery: The Eye Opener
The Eye Opener Thursday, May 21, 2015 If we deny the fatherhood of God and our divine relationship to Him and each other, then we are but animated pieces of clay, each one independent of and unconnected with each other. If that be so, then we are foolish to love and labor for others. But are love and charity nonsense? Would life be a pleasant and interesting experience without them? No, if we removed these characteristics from our lives, we would be left with only that which the baser animals possess. Hazelden Foundation
Life is so unexpectedly beautiful in sobriety, thereâs absolutely nothing I wouldnât do to continue living the life I have today. Itâs so scary thinking about where Iâd be today without all of the help and support of the fellowship of Alcoholics Anonymous. The promises of sobriety are so true and powerful, it is something everyone should be able experience in their lifetime. Iâm so grateful to be alive today and wouldnât trade my experiences for the world.
I drowned you out with alcohol.

May 16 Grapevine Quote âMany people who believe wonder what atheists do when tough times befall us. To whom do we turn if not to God? I turn to friends and reason and experiences of the past. I now think, based on previous events, that the odds are I will get through whatever comes in my life until it ends.â

May 16, 2015 - Readings in Recovery: The Eye Opener
The Eye Opener Saturday, May 16, 2015 Is revenge really sweet? Some louse has offended you, so you get even, thus offending him and becoming a louse yourself. Do you really want revenge? Then do the guy a favor. It will hurt him deep down in his heart as nothing else can. It will be a great source of satisfaction to your wounded pride, and it may be that you will be additionally rewarded by the acquisition of a friend. Hazelden Foundation
