miguel-soto:
The pier was among many things in the town to burn down after the arson attacks started. It was one of his favorite places to be. Miguel often came to the pier to think, or get his mind off of all the death at work. Sometimes it was a hard job, and sometimes he could bare the weight of it all. Today he could not. Seeing the pier torn apart by flames, blackened wood resting at the edge of his feet, he couldnât help but feel worse about the victims heâd help treat today. The man sighed, muttering a prayer in Spanish before he heard someone approach. It was Marina, he recognized her immediately from the white hair. He said nothing though, didnât really have the chance to as she stepped across the yellow caution tape.Â
Miguelâs brow furrowed, realizing right away that heâd been tucked behind a corner and she hadnât seen him. If she had, maybe she mightâve stopped herself. He should say something right? The police could be back any moment, she would get into some sort of troubleâŚright? âUgh- uh, Marina, what are youâŚdoing?â He sputtered out, taking a step forward and nearly falling over the caution tape. Nice one. This time, he stepped over it, realizing now he would also be apprehended for whatever crime Marina may or may not be committing stepping over this yellow caution tape. âAre you doing that thing where you âtake matters into your own hands?âÂ
She jumped slightly at the sound of a voice, a voice that apparently recognized her. Whirling around she struggled to keep her composure, using every ounce of her willpower to not dig into her pocket and try to solve this situation with a spell. That would be incredibly suspicious and though she certainly wasnât responsible for this mess, lashing out would make her appear more guilty than not.Â
After completing her none too panicked swivel stumbling back ever so slightly as the splintered wood caught under her shoes, she came face to face with Miguel. She breathed a sigh of relief, her shoulders slumping slightly. She didnât trust him exactly, but he was better company than a cop right now. âUh, Hi Miguel.â She responded with an awkward wave and sheepish smile as he joined her on the less legal side of the police tape. âI suppose you could say that.â She ran a hand through her hair, attempting to quell her frazzled nerves. She couldnât mention her suspicions of magic being involved, not to him, but she couldnât quite lie either, mainly because she was shit at it. âThe fires always start at the same time and from around here. I probably won't be able to get any further down the pier than anyone else, but I thought Iâd try.â She gave a small shrug, it was enough of the truth for her to work with. âWhoeverâs doing this must getting here somehow and if itâs not this way, maybe I can figure out how.â She glanced away for a moment almost like she was about to go but then hesitated and fixed her gaze upon Miguel once more. âAnd what are you doing here?âÂ
