So weirdest thing - thought of that headcanon independently today, and someone pointed me to this post and I'm like WOW so here's my take-
Blaze had had nightmares, sometimes, growing up. They all shared some common notes, she'd come to realise.
They were all exceptionally vivid, and lingered in her memory like they were real. They all involved having power - immense power, more strength than she could control, more resilience than a mountain, more flicker-quick speed than she could even keep track of. The boiling fury of a star's heart rushed through her in these dreams, empowering every motion...and every time, she was in such mortal danger - or fighting something of such awesome ferocity - that she didn't know if it would be enough.
A fall from so high she risked death from lack of air before she could even see the ground. A battle in space itself, dodging rocks and wreckage and persistently-seeking missiles. A desperate charge through a flooded city, the survivors' cries of support buoying her up as she faced a living tidal wave. All of these had happened to her in her sleep, and more. But it wasn't really to her, it was to someone else. Someone with a different voice, different friends glimpsed from the corner of her eye, different lands they fought to protect. She'd give up on ever figuring out who.
And then their eyes met, and Blaze's heart ignited with more than mere flames. He was real, all along. Those terrible things had happened to him, and he'd become that avatar of limitless power in turn, to overcome them. He hadn't been gifted with this power, like her; he'd been driven to use it, to protect others. His gaze carried it all, and enough brightness and joy that he could still smile past it.
How, after all she'd seen through his eyes, could she ever have done anything but love him?
