i’ll be so for real i don’t use cherp unless i’m in a dire situation of rp desperation. it’s a last resort, and usually a waste of energy for me bc i have moved on from naruto to a fandom with somehow even less of an rp presence despite it being one of the most popular games ever released in it’s genre. but that’s not really cherps fault. my current cherp gripe is once again the tagging system. i’m sorry but i do think it knocks down peoples chances of getting connects when they have to add 8 scary tags to their prompt for vague mentions of things existing in the backstory of a character, which IS a very different from having the tag actually featured in the rp. it’s also just……. nsfwe does not mean anything anymore. i feel bad for ppl looking for actual nsfwe content while the tag is filled with completely normal prompts that are just there bc someone has a tragic backstory.

it’s also useless to me for actually blacklisting content i don’t want to see. like “abuse” is tagged for rps that actively feature abuse or want to rp an abusive dynamic, but also ones that just have it in the backstory or otherwise in the background. i’m fine with the latter, and i’m not fine with like, rping an abusive dynamic. but i’m fine with it being featured in the rp in other aspects or as a background element. so blacklisting the tag is not helpful bc it also blacklists prompts i might want and would not be upsetting to me. but also i have to wade through shit i don’t want to see. and likewise, actual nsfwe rpers have to wade through a bunch of irrelevant normal shit. it’s just not very effective and i feel like there should be tags that differentiate the level of how those red tags actually exist in the rp.

ok curious ppl who write f/f sound off. im Litcherally a lesbian in real life and have identified as a wlw for more than half of my life now but i fucking despise writing f/f. has the culture changed?

because i used to write f/f maybe 4-5 years ago and i found it to be exhausting because i felt like i either only got "gentle [white] [thin] [cis] babus gently sit in the field and braid each others hair (anything else is abuse)" or people who i was 100% sure had never had a relationship or sex with a woman before and/or were probably men. and it was exhausting to me, as an actual lesbian, to roleplay things that were nothing like what an actual f/f relationship was like in a way that was boring (or seriously lacking in complexity, in any case)

like, i dont like writing f/f that feels like the fakey lesbian porn you see marketed toward cishet men, but i feel like i can never find anyone who wants to write with my butch or otherwise not white thin cis women female characters. for f/f or for f/m (which is what i primarily write.)

i dont know how to describe this but like if i wanted to write two women braiding each others hair in a field i would just go to my gfs house and sit with her in her back yard for an hour you know? i want complexity and i want hardships and i want unhealthy relationships but the last time i was hardcore into f/f anything that wasnt completely sterilized was designated as horrible, vile, and abusive and i pretty much havent touched it since because i cant stand it. is it different now? or do we just not see it at all? or what?

Well, part of the problem is also there being so much content like what you’re describing and not as much f/f written by actual wlw that isn’t sterilized. And it’s kind of funny we all seem to have this problem but arent finding each other for rp. But I would say it’s a little less like that now because more of us are looking for f/f but also a lot of us still barely bother looking anymore because of the extensively aforementioned issue of it usually not getting any attention and no one giving it a chance. And there’s so few of us that care about f/f at all and obviously we aren’t all going to want to do each other’s ideas just because it’s f/f so then the unfortunate problem of not really giving each other many rp scraps comes up… there are a lot of Layers to the issue.

honestly I don’t need it as a ‘warning’ or anything, but I’d love for there to be a tag option for Omegaverse since it’s so so common and I keep getting halfway through a prompt before they mention it’s omegaverse. On the other hand I guess I’d miss a lot of RPs that tag for it ‘just in case’ and miss RPs where it’s not a requirement so hm

see that’s the thing i struggle with for blacklisting bc i don’t want to like, also blacklist potentially good rps and shit where it’s tagged because it’s an option but not actually required. that’s why i wish there was an “optional” tag or something bc i’m only trying to blacklist certain things where the thing i don’t like is 100% in the rp

My opinion largely is that the biggest problem in the cherp community is the users that see everything in black and white, and that staff don't always handle that very well. To the point that they seem to engage with the community on a masochistic level.

Gonna put a hot take here for you:

Web developers lie. They hide the truth. They have to as part of the job. Telling evey Tom Dick and Jerry about the inner workings of your website is a bad idea. So. You have to conceal that in various ways. Moreover, people lie. That's just what human beings do. If you're claiming you don't lie, you're lying. Even if you HATE lying it's something we are all forced to do, especially when dealing with sensitive information and content.

The "United Nations" channel on the RPbin server was a bad idea. It was small p political theatre. Thelle and TT being in the fancords is a bad idea. They're controversial members of staff. (Hex can sort of get away with it because they're kind of one of the only people that interacts with the user base that doesn't cause an uproar, but imho I still think it was a bad idea for them to join the RPbin server.)

That whole fiasco was just a bunch of obstuse dipshits on both sides that purposefully read any serious discussions with as much bad faith as possible. It was a damn mess.

I hope Thellere learned some sense and dips out if the spotlight. If the rest of them had any sense, they would, too.

I'm trying to make the server inclusive to systems before it goes live, but I'm not a system and I know nothing about them. So help is needed.

actually i know of one! pluralkit. unfortunately the creators are pretty controversial in the System Community but last i heard, it was the only bot for that. u just invite it in like normal idk i’m not actually good at bots i just know that one for that purpose

i find it very annoying that i feel like i have to specify that i don’t like how the site is run to the point i refuse to use it anymore and have multiple issues with some of the mods and their behavior or else i’ll be called a mod simp, but also feel like i have to specify other times that i have advocated for Toning The Rabid Hate The Fuck Down when it’s excessive and unnecessary or ill be grouped with the people who are just petty and look for every reason to have issues with the mods for any reason at all to the point it’s like they don’t want anything good to happen with cherp.

just read the stuff in the ZIP file. i find it very funny and unsurprising that the majority of the screenshots are of the same people, one of which definitely has a history of being, for lack of a better word, wayyyy dramatic about cherp issues. and this is coming from someone who actively refuses to use cherp anymore bc i don’t like how it’s run. also, as many people have already said, using people’s posts without permission is a bad look, basing your whole site on how much you hate another one is a bad look, but also not having a wider variety of input on a call out post like this one is a bad look. it would come off a lot more credible if you used complaints from a wide variety of people with varying cherp opinions, with permission, as opposed to majority of screenshots being just from the people who hate cherp most viciously with the rest of the screenshots pulled from random users old posts without permission.

I think a big part of it also is the major over-representation in porn of certain kinds of features, and general lack of discussion (though I think it’s getting better?) of how that diversity exists and is fine. Which, to be clear, is not an excuse for the people, but there’s something of a broader cultural failing enabling this personal asshattery. So it, like, sucks even harder, basically.
