Rehab | Marina & Eric
Eric tucked his hands into his pockets, gazing at his sister’s surroundings. He wasn’t sure why he visited – she obviously didn’t want him there, but he had to. He needed to make sure she was okay, that she was safe, and while he shouldn’t have had a problem believing she was alright in rehab, he still wanted, no, needed, to check. His eyes were cold, but he knew it was a facade. He couldn’t bring himself to not care, especially around Marina. She got into trouble, it was what she did. But this time, she’d hurt him. And while it wasn’t her fault, he knew how she’d felt about telling anyone the last time she’d relapsed, he was still bitter, whether he had any right to be or not. After making his way around the room, his eyes settled on her. He didn’t reply to her. He didn’t look at her with sympathy. It was then that he realized that he should’ve never come.
The more her brother looked at her with that look, the more she drowned in a feeling of embarrassment. Her palms became sweaty as she balled them into fists at her sides, and she felt a deep tightening in her chest as she forced herself not to act irrationally. Her eyes burned then, and she then realized she probably looked pathetic. She wish he’d say something, anything at all. The urge to shrink away was great. Marina knew she’d disappointed her brother, and then on top of that, kept secrets from him. But some of her intentions were good -- She didn’t want to worry him or bring him down somehow. And she hoped with everything he wasn’t too angry at her, angry enough to cut her out, or even push her away. Instead of staying silent, her body spoke again, blurting out like word vomit. “What are you doing here?” She repeated, her eyes shiny, and her voice small and cracked.

Clint smiled timidly at Marina as she looked up at him, happy to look into her eyes despite how sad they seemed. He was more surprised though by the way she spoke, she wasn’t being sassy or making fun of him. It took him back, but he used it to try and make it somewhat easier for them to speak. “Clint? Not dweeb ass?” Clint said trying to make it like any other day the would meet. It wasn’t though, because they were surrounded by families visiting addicts just like her. It was far from the same, and it scared him. These thoughts were taken from him though as he saw her act as awkwardly as he had. He didn’t move with her for a hug though, because in this situation he was no longer the one acting before thought. In this moment he was not quite himself, he was too stuck with reality to be himself.
Clint didn’t move his hand to shake hers, and luckily she moved her own before she could realize he hadn’t moved an inch. He didn’t mean it in a disrespectful way, he was still filled with respect and admiration for Marina. “Yeah, okay.” He said in reply following behind her, sitting down at the other side of the table. “How are you?”
Marina didn’t say anything, only gave him a second of a small smile before it vanished. She recalled the way she'd speak to him, impulsively saying things and low-key insulting him to give her some ease against his niceness. But the weight of the entire situation was making her fall silent, not even opening her mouth as if to say something, which she did a lot.
Her hands fumbled with one of her bracelets as she sat opposite to Clint, her eyes coming to fall on him. Thoughts swarmed through her head, questions of what he thought of her now, or wonders of what he felt about her call. But they seemed to be encased in a protective bubble, so she didn’t voice them. She’d gotten used to the question, it coming from both people inside and outside. She’d gotten used to saying the same thing, too. “I’m getting better, I guess..” She trailed off, scrunching up her nose before she blurted. “How are you? What have you been up to?” She knew she should be explaining everything from start to finish, but she was stalling, trying to postpone talking about her mistakes to Clint as much as possible.
When you don’t want to feel, death seems like a dream. But seeing death, really seeing it, makes dreaming about it fucking ridiculous

Of course it is, I’m just worried you know? I feel the urge to keep asking if you’re okay, isn’t that terrible?
Yeah.. I get why you’re worried. I don’t think you should be. I mean, I’m in the fuckin’ hands of people who know how to help me and um.. I’m okay. Legit.
