Level 1: Unrequited pining.

Level 2: It’s actually requited, but neither realises that the other reciprocates their feelings because they’re both dumbasses.

Level 3: As above, but they’re failing to connect because each is in denial about their own feelings rather than the other character’s.

Level 4: Character A thinks it’s unrequited; character B thinks they’re already in a relationship; the discrepancy in their respective understandings of the situation doesn’t become apparent because of differing communication styles (and also, as above, because they’re both dumbasses).

Level 5: Each is aware that the other reciprocates their feelings, but thinks they can’t be together due to a misinterpretation of the situation at hand; neither realises that they’re on completely different pages with respect to why they can’t be together because somehow it just never comes up.

Level 6: Everybody else thinks it’s a mutual pining situation, but then right at the end it’s revealed that they’ve been in a relationship the whole time and they’re just a couple of dramatic weenies.

Thinking back on how Amity bullied Willow in her introduction, I’ve already considered the idea of Amity genuinely trying to encourage Willow to become a better witch (possibly so her parents could approve their friendship), only to repeat condescending methods passed down by her family...

But given the possibility of Amity being autistic, perhaps this adds another layer to her being blunt and harsh- Because it might not occur to Amity that this is how she’s acting! And not being able to read social cues well, means that Amity can’t tell how Willow was clearly uncomfortable with her flawed attempts at encouragement...

Now, that doesn’t make Amity’s actions okay, and she definitely knew it was wrong to let Boscha and the others bully Willow- Willow’s psyche clearly suffered. But I think it adds a level of nuance to Amity’s interactions with Willow, that maybe she thinks she’s hurting Willow ‘for her own good’, and how this kind of sentiment has clearly been passed down to Amity by her parents. And due to being autistic, Amity assumes that Willow automatically understands where she’s coming from, in addition to having this kind of toxicity be normalized to her since birth.
