“They’ve met my ex-boyfriend and he was clearly mentally deranged, so I think you’ll be absolutely fine,” Lottie replied. “Plus there’s no way they’re not going to like you. I don’t like many people but you are one of them, so clearly there’s something special about you,” she grinned. “I know the royals have rings with portals but I don’t know any of them well enough to ask. I could steal one, to be fair,” she shrugged and then burst out into laughter with her comment. “That–…  that is the most amazing way of describing him. Well done,” she chuckled. 

“Clearly. Let’s hope you never date someone as crazy as him,” Mari responded. “I can’t say I’m close enough with any of them to borrow one either,” she admitted with a light frown. But quickly after Lottie’s suggestion the expression turned to grin, “Steal one? Now that’d be an adventure,” she admitted. After seeing Lottie light up at her comparison, Marisol’s grin grew, “Thank you, thank you. That was easily some of my best worst.”

“We can always pretend to be champion bakers though, can’t we?” They suggested with a laugh. “I’m a lot better at cooking than baking but at home my Mums love to cook so I never get much of a chance in the kitchen.” They spoke with a shrug. “Not that I’m complaining, the stress isn’t great in general but it’s amazing for a nap.” Simona agreed. “For the most part, yeah. And the best part is, especially at home, with so many siblings sometimes they just go missing. Completely by accident,” They spoke, laughing as they did. 

“Fake it ‘til you make it is the mentality for the day I take it?” she commented with a laugh. “Ah, but if you’ve had practice with cooking you’ll probably do better at this baking thing. I’ll follow your lead around the kitchen,” Mari suggested. “They just go missing, hmm? How tragic and mysterious,” she laughed in response.

“That’s exactly what I was thinking! We’d be in trouble if we didn’t,” Jasmine agreed, “Maybe we can find some mini brownies? I think that’ll get our brains working perfectly.” 

“Mini brownies?” Marisol seemed to perk up. “That does sound like it’d be just the thing to get the gears turning. Let’s see what we can scavenge then, shall we?”

“Thank you for not making complete mockery of me being a secret Twilight fan, I appreciate it greatly.” Elliot told his sister with a small nod, though he imagined as time moved on she would use it as a quip in some of her conversations to tease him. He would just need to find a guilty pleasure of hers that he could use as his own defense. “Oh I don’t know, I just feel like I have a lot more style than you. That’s all.” He grinned, wondering if the other would take the bite and whether she’d make that face that she always did when she found him frustrating. “You can’t destroy them!” Elliot exclaimed, looking to the other slightly appalled. “Even if they are humiliating, they’re memories, so you can steal but then put them in a safe place for later years to come where we’ll be able to laugh at ourselves without feeling embarrassed.” Elliot let out a small laugh, “Yeah for most families it’s Monopoly, for us it’s Uno. But you can totally stack plus fours, that’s the proper way to play it and I will scour the Uno rules to anyone who disagrees with us.”

“It might be a secret to everybody else, but we’ve lived together for quite some time. I think if anyone would know about your Twilight obsession, it would be me,” she pointed out to her brother with a laugh. “Do you now? Of course you’d say that,” Marisol rolled her eyes playfully at him. Her eyebrows raised in surprise at how passionate Elliot seemed to be about preserving the home videos. “I guess you’re right. I can’t exactly promise I’ll ever not be embarrassed by them, but if they mean that much to you I’ll get over my shame,” she added with a smile. Marisol would protest but in the end she knew Elliot was right. Upon mention of Uno once more, her expression changed to a more competitive one, “Absolutely. Kind of weird how Uno doesn’t know their own rules, huh? People have been stacking plus fours for years. And you mentioned Monopoly– I think that would ruin our family too if any of us could be bothered to play it for long enough. That game takes ages to get through.”

“I’d be out a job and hey, since it was your idea maybe I would be inclined to give you some of the profit I make with the puppy dog eyes. You could be my manager in it all.” Darcy teased the other with a grin. “Okay, that sounds like a good plan. I feel like a spy right now, which is- pretty cool.” She bounced slightly, making sure her bag was zipped up, kitten safely inside as they moved. “I mean you’re a water fairy and I’m a light one, I’m pretty sure using our abilities either alone or together are a pretty good distraction should we need one.”

“I’d be careful with offering for me to be your manager. I can get pretty bossy,” Marisol pointed out with a light chuckle, very self-aware of the fact. “I imagine espionage is a little more high stakes than cat-smuggling, but sure– let’s have our little spy moment,” she couldn’t help but let out another laugh. She had barely realized when the girl’s infectious energy had begun to have an effect on her. “Oh we totally could,” Marisol nodded in agreement. “The prettiest one would be a rainbow, since it’s basically light refracting in water droplets.”

“I know, right? You are obviously my second in command for the job, so clear your schedule as we’ve got a movement to create,” Lottie said excitedly. “Oh, that’s a good point. Hadn’t thought of that. Maybe I should just introduce you as my insane friend so they won’t take anything you say seriously just in case you slip, you know, to get ahead of this thing,” the blonde joked. “Is there actually a way out of this place? Like obviously I know they have those portals at the end of semester but can we escape at any other time?” “I knew you’d be on board. But no, they have the most amazing sandwiches. My favourite ever item of food comes from that place, but don’t tell Harv that as he thinks veggie deluxe pizzas are my favourite.”

“Consider it cleared. You know I’ll always make time for you,” she said as thought it were as simple as that. Marisol’s loyalty knew no bounds when it was someone she considered as basically family. “Hey! Then they might not even want you being friends with me in the first place if I’m so ‘insane’, huh?” the dark haired girl complained back, not before swatting Lottie on the shoulder lightly. “Good question... that’s something I’ll have to investigate. I’m sure there are some ways. I don’t think it’ll be something as simple as a spell though,” Marisol admitted, noting that down as something she’d delve into later. “I’d be crazy not to be!” she beamed, trying to match Lottie’s excitement despite never having been to the establishment. At her friend’s request she made a zipping motion over her lips, “Consider them sealed– I won’t say a word to him about it. That poor boy has a pizza box for a brain and a pepperoni slice for a heart, he wouldn’t be able to take such news,” she tsked dramatically, obviously just messing around with the last bit.

“I mean, it’s gotta have a positive to my stupidity otherwise it’s just plain old sad, don’t you think?” Lucas pointed out with a smile. “You know, considering how we started off, I didn’t expect you to be the one who was trying to pep talk me. I knew you were just a big ball of sugary sweetness underneath all the sass.”

“I guess so. It’s admirable you’re able to find the light in moments like that,” she nodded observantly. “My tendency to keep everyone at an arm’s length is definitely after my father, but my mother’s nurturing and ‘take none of their shit’ pep talks seemed to have rubbed off on me overtime as well,” Marisol admitted after his words. It wasn’t in her first instinct to let people in, but whenever the guard did come down she was an incredibly loyal and even adventurous young woman. “Hey– that’s our secret okay? Can’t let anyone know I’m not exclusively prickly.”

“It is very on brand, so you must know enough about me just from living in the same space for a few years. What you see is what you get with me,” she said with a gentle shrug. “Oh, that sounds like it would look so good! It also sounds very on brand for you too, Marisol,” Mags said with a grin. “I’ll have to order some more blue paints in for the ocean, but I think I’ve got enough of the other colours to get us started off.” Mags only used the brightest of colours in her paintings, but was definitely not opposed to trying some different shades. “A spa day for us sounds like a good idea. I can definitely get Darcy in on the idea.” 

“There’s nothing wrong with being a little predictable. If anything, it shows just how honestly and openly you project your true self to the world,” she replied with a light shrug of her shoulders. Marisol was much to cautious and guarded to be like that. She had never really understood why, especially since her family never gave her a real reason to develop such a defense mechanism. “Thanks! See, I guess I let you know a little about me over the years too. Although I guess a water fairy pitching waves for the mural isn’t exactly groundbreaking stuff,” Marisol mentioned with a laugh. “Yeah I think it’ll be easiest to start by painting my whole side shades of blue and then layering the details onto that,” she considered with another smile. “For us?” Marisol tried to let in the idea of them spending more time together aside from the mural. “I’ll be honest, I think the closest thing to a spa day I’ve ever had was watching a movie while wearing one of those sheet face masks you can purchase at a grocery store. You’ll have to teach me your ways.”

Jasmine closed a few books around them to set themselves up to have more room. “I think you’re right, besides these are our books. We’re bringing it on ourselves.” She laughed, “Would bringing some snacks back with us pushing it too far?” 

“Hmm... I dunno,” she pretended to take a moment to consider. “I think it might be a bit of crime if we don’t bring some snacks,” Marisol added with a smile on the corners of her lips. “I mean what goes better with tea than some biscuits or chocolate, right?”

“A masquerade would be fun, but I’m pretty sure we might have to do this whole party thing in secret. I don’t know the policy on any parties.”

“A masquerade?” her eyebrows shot upwards. She didn’t know what sort of answer she’d expect, but that hadn’t come to mind. Perhaps because Marisol was a little more lowkey. “That sounds pretty extravagant. While I’m not sure where I should even begin searching for a mask, I’m sure you could help me out,” she laughed lightly.

“Not to be dramatic, but I would kill for an extra week of break.” Simona over exaggerated, “Maybe we could convince them for an extra day with some cake, or something? How are your baking skills?” They then asked with a raise of their eyebrow. “It’s weird how fickle the urge to nap is. I’m usually more willing to nap after an exam or something like that. Maybe because we’re stressed?” Simona suggested. “Absolutely-” They started to say, “I don’t want to see it anywhere in my room.” 

“I can’t blame you,” Marisol agreed easily. “Well I’m responsible enough to not burn anything of course, but I’m not exactly some sort of champion baker either,” she admitted when asked by the other about her baking skills. “How about you?” Mari turned the question onto them out of curiosity. “You know what, you’re probably onto something with the stress theory. That has to be the reason we find it easier to nap some days,” she nodded after considering it for a moment. “I mean I get that but– damn. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of anyone going to such lengths to avoid it. Have you always done that? Hide your work I mean.”

“Look as terrible as those movies are, it’s always fun to quote and I will take every opportunity I can to do it. And that is one of the best lines, so as for the length of time I’ve been waiting to use it, probably a month or two, ever since I re watched them.” Elliot told his sister with a grin, he guessed as much as he mocked those movies they had became a bit of a guilty pleasure for him, secretly enjoying them more then he should and making fun of them to make up for that fact. “And when that day comes I’ll be prepared and I will win, just telling you this now so you can be prepared to face humiliation. Also, pretty sure we got in one at Christmas once when we were younger, Elena probably still has the videos.” He still found it hard to name his adoptive parents Mom and Dad given his circumstances, he was just glad that they didn’t seem to mind that he called them by their names. “If you’re really pissed do you pull out the pick up four card? Or is that just reserved for people who you end up cutting ties with at the end of the conversation?”

“Alright, I guess I gotta give you that,” she sighed with a light shake of her head. “Some movies are just begging to be quoted, much like that series of films,” Marisol agreed. “You’ll win? And how can you be so sure that I won’t?” she challenged, the two often pretty competitive but all in good fun. When Marisol was competitive with anyone else is was much less friendly. “Do you think she does? I might ask her to show them to us only to take them and promptly dispose of them forever so nobody else can see us humiliate ourselves,” Mari added with a laugh, knowing that her mother was the type to save every little thing that had something to do with their growing up. “Hmm good question. I try to use it as a last resort most of the time, trying to exhaust all my other cards until I have no choice. But I think we can both agree that you should totally be allowed to stack the plus fours. I mean what’s the fun in Uno if it’s not a total friendship and family ruiner?”

“I’m not even kidding. I spoke to one of the princesses of that ice realm and she asked me to help her. Me,” Lottie said, as if this was the most profound exciting thing that had happened to her, which to be fair, since she arrived at Alfea it was definitely one of them. “Good, because I don’t know what they’d do if you let it slip that I was a fairy. Probably send me to psychotherapy or something.” When she found out herself, she didn’t believe it and thought the Dean was absolutely mad. Turns out she was definitely not. “I wish we could go right now because I have magiphilosophy next and I’d rather die trying to figure out how to get home than go to that boring-ass class,” Lottie rolled her eyes. “It is. The first place I’m taking you is Shake Shack, literally a place that specialises in milkshakes.”

“Oh my god, really? Lottie! That’s pretty fucking awesome,” Marisol replied, finding it easy to share her friend’s excitement. “Would they send you or me? Because technically you could deny everything I’m saying and they’ll just think I’m out of my damn mind,” she pointed out, just in case Mari did slip up and Lottie needed an out. “I wish we could go now too, just because a change of scenery in general would be pretty damn nice,” she admitted with an exaggerated sigh. “Hopefully your class will go by faster than you expect it to,” Marisol added with a light shrug, hoping to comfort her even a little. “Milkshakes? I mean who can say no to that? Do they only sell milkshakes there?”

“I’m the exact same,” Thea said. “My mom likes cats more and dad likes dogs so I grew up with both. They also have a weird affinity for naming pets– Moose and Galileo. It’s a miracle I ended up with a normal sounding name, honestly.” Thea could still feel the negativity radiating from the other, but she didn’t want to push so tried to change the subject. “Okay, enough with the normal boring pets. What about if you could have any pet, fictional or not?”

“Yeah by the sound of it, it seems like you should be grateful to have ended up with a normal sounding name. Although it does seem popular to go all out on pet names. I think it’s even weirder to just come across a dog named George or something at this point. It feels almost a little too human, you know?” she considered. “Any pet? Well, if we’re pretending it wouldn’t turn feral or against me in any way... maybe a panther... or a phoenix? They seem pretty cool in their own ways. How about you?”

“Right? I wonder if that’s what all their meetings are about.” They offered up. Of course they knew that it wouldn’t something that was real, but with all that Simona had to do it almost felt real. “Even just a little bit of leeway, an extra week to do the assignments… something. It would make us all a lot more willing to do them all.” Simona said with a sigh. “Oh, that sounds great. I wish I were you, for some reason I just can’t nap.” They spoke with a shake of their head, “Do you just hide everything before you nap?” 

“Could you imagine?” she let out a brief snort of amusement. “An extra week... that would be the day. I think that’s much too generous for them. We’d be lucky to squeeze an extra day.” Marisol shrugged a little, “Oh I am not always capable of napping. I don’t get how it works really, but some days I can and others I can barely get to sleep at night,” she admitted to them. “Hide everything? You mean the work I have to do? I mean... not really? I just don’t take it out of my bag until I actually plan on doing it. Do you hide it?”

“I’ll start getting some head shots lined up, perfect my puppy dog face, just to be one the safe side- you know, in case I’m unable to produce something heart-wrenching on the day of hire.” She joked with the other, realizing that she did tend to have people say yes to her more times then not but she never thought it was done to her appearance or pleading face. She thought she just made some good and valuable points. “Me and Cat thank you- she is going to need quite a few things, but first things first is trying to get her back to my room without anyone else catching us.”

“Of course, of course– we couldn’t have that happening, now could we?” she tsked lightly as she played along with the other’s joke. “That’s a pretty solid start,” Marisol nodded. “I think as long as we keep her tucked in your bag and walk briskly, all should be well. If someone crosses our path and asks us too many questions, I’ll figure out a way to distract.”

“It will be great fun, trust me,” Mags nodded. “We can each have a bit of the mural that represents us. For me it’s an explosion of colours and sunflowers. What would yours be?” Despite living in close proximity to Mari for some time now, Mags still didn’t know her as well as she would have liked. “Ooh,” Mags said, her eyes open wide at the other’s suggestion. “I’ve never thought of doing that. But I’d still get weird looks doing it in a civilised spa, don’t you think? Maybe I’ll just have to do it when I go home for the summer or something.”

“From what I know about you, that sounds on brand,” Marisol mustered another soft laugh. “Sunflowers are easily one of the prettiest sunflowers, so I won’t protest to seeing that on our wall,” she added. It didn’t hurt to project a little positivity, especially when her dorm mate wasn’t half bad. “A lot of ocean waves. Maybe some seashells. I’d love to add some greenery too, like large palm leaves or something,” Mari replied after considering the other’s question for a moment and imagining what she would paint on her part of the mural. “Yeah... I’m pretty sure splashing in the mud bathes is frowned upon everywhere except on a farm,” she agreed with a little nod of her head, stifling back the beginnings of a snort. “A little spa day for yourself sounds like a good idea.”
