tho im a dumb baby and post at awful hours... i put it in a queue for tomorrow and hopefully someone will see it.
idk it was a little discouraging to see no engagement when i worked so hard and ppl like the sketch.
and like this happened with some other pieces too, idk just feeling both discouraged and gimped by whatever algorithm that eats my posts. or maybe my art isn’t something that mctmblr likes? like sometimes i get 100+ something notes and others i get 8 but it feels like it’s the same content so idk. it’s just frustrating.
I also thumbed out the pose prior, but this took a lot of refinement and references. Having a whole lot of fun with this style and have another one in the works.
A good look into my process for these pieces. I think about where the shadows and highlights are and block those in first, then put in a base color. Or I work with the base color and work in an extra value.
It’s been a good exercise in making me think about negative and positive shapes.
hm, I know i’m a small voice in a big pond, but today’s events about Dream’s speedrunning scandal was bothering me.
Gonna put this under a readmore since it’s lengthy and a bit ramble. Also for people who don’t really care.
First my background for the media:
I love speedrunning, and I love the community. It has its faults and drama, and things like drama blow up huge, I feel, since it’s a relatively niche community. There has been a long history of cheaters in speedrunning(shortening to sr for the remainder of the ramble) and has shunned whole legit runners and any subsequent entries with scrutiny. There has been take downs of times because of the runner being an awful person.
However, it’s a community that I love to support because of the sheer love and dedication it takes for the craft. I love the optimization, the grind, the perfection of it all. So Dream’s cheating hurt more than it should have to me.
When it first happened, I had just watched this Minecraft Manhunt video that just came out. I was drawn to it because of the sr quality to it. Then I got interested in his smp and other minecraft youtubers. When it happened, I thought I’d drop his content, though I was enraptured by the DSMP and its stories.
I watched the videos and analysis and read the papers of the mathematicians work. I sifted through the vitriol of hate towards Dream and towards the Mods of the sr community, and the disappointment of the community as a whole.
I remember watching a video of a sr of sm64 say that Dream’s content is great, but he will never be welcomed to the sr community ever. And nobody cares about speedrunners and their craft and that speedrunners are such a niche/small community that it has no chance against a large content creator’s community.
I remember that speedrunners are most likely to cheat out of frustration, not to get the fastest time, to get the fastest time faster.
Large CCs had the run of the place and had a microscope over the speedrunning community, and it made my stomach churn.
I moved on to watching Philza and Technoblade. I loved Ranboo when he blew up. I was still interested in Dream’s content, trying my best to turn a blind eye to how he undeniably cheated in that speedrun and in my opinion, tried to cover it up.
And that’s what sickens me so much. He knew and didn’t come forward, but hid. And I have sympathy for that, yes, he was vulnerable, he possibly had shame for what he did.
Now he asks us to accept his mistake.
Near 7 months after the incident.
And I see animosity towards his criticizers, towards these Mods who were in the right. People laughing at ratios.
All I feel is sadness and disappointment in Dream’s community. Possibly with Dream as well.
I understand that Dream has worked to become a better person, but man it feels awful to see him shallowly brush it off like this. “It was just for fun, I’m not a professional” and in the strictest definition, yes. He’s not a professional. But man it hurts.
