whenever I try to think of a New Universe with New OCs stupid Asu pops into my brain

I mean I suppose I could just Scoop up the crew, rename them to fit the new setting, and call it good but hhhhh I'm attached to their Current Names... which would not really work in the new setting cuz. language reasons.

(I maybe lied about not making a conlang and I'm flip flopping between making it for Ayskia (Asu's homeland) or Akari'hi (the new universe I've been working on every once in awhile) but I'm leaning towards Akari'hi so I DON'T have to rename everyone but if I move them to Akari'hi then they Would need to be renamed anyway UGH)

my dad (Maori) works on a ship with all Maori/Tongan/Samoan fisherman- and one Aussie guy called Jake.

And that wasn't done on purpose just sort of how it ended up, but Jake recently got an injury so they put him on a Different boat just for a little bit (a sit in the wheelhouse and scout type of boat, instead of the main fishing one) and he only got back to my dad's ship today and he was apparently like Shaking. He was Traumatised.

Dad said Jake kept pulling him aside and going "They were all yelling on there, but in a MEAN way" "They didn't clean... Like at ALL"

Jake experienced what a boat full of old school Aussie fisherman is like. That is the norm Jake. You just happened to be on the all Island boy boat on your first go out. "It was time for dinner and they had FROZEN nuggets" Jake that's what they have on ships that are out at sea for months at a time.

On my dad's boat they are eating fresh fish and coconut milk Ceviche. They're grilling steaks on an open bbq on the deck that probably is not regulation. All the guys have their own special knives to prepare sashimi every couple days. Everyone is happily doing their own work so they can clock out early and set up a movie on the deck. Jake did you genuinely believe that's what every boat was doing.

if I were to make a conlang (NOT SAYING I AM) I'd probably change Berry's name...purely so the berry/bear pun works in the conlang

I think I'd go with like. fruit/beast as the translation. Unsure of what the conlang words would be but it'd be cute ok

IF (huge if) I make a conlang I definitely want a differentiation between "my (actual familial) brother's son" and "my (closest friend, blood of the covenant is stronger than the water of the womb) brother's son" bc that's what Hassan is definitely thinking when he calls Asu ebn akhi (my brother's son/my nephew) and I think it'd be so cutes to have that be more than just implied 😭 when I say Hassan was close to Asu's parents I mean they were his closest friends and the most important people in the world to him OK
