Colors of Hermosa Festival

Friday morning, just got up and still feeling dazed and just taking my breakfast tea, browsing through facebook and saw a post announcing the hermosa streetdance happening and it said 8a.m. still dazed and looked at the clock three quarters past 7! I immeaditely jumped off and grabbed my cameras and ran to parade grounds. took these photos from city hall all the way to corner of normal road. i this one is for the books, the city is celebrating hermosa as extravagant as ever. the colors, the music, the heat, the rush all intoxicating enjoyment! i wasn’t able to go inside the sports complex to make more photos as my toe was bleeding, someone steped on my feet and nicked my toe, doesn’t as long as i got my shots and doing what i love doing. the funny thing and the end, when i got home my tea is still there and i barely took a sip of it hahaha!

Into Film

Recently i got myself a film camera, a nikon f3 no less. shot it around the my city where a festival is happening. the tactile and mechanical feel, the sound of the shutter, manual focusing is very enjoyable compared to shooting digital. The thrill of anticipation give me  a rush that i don’t get with my digital and developing film on my own give me the satisfaction that i’m doing everything on my own from start to finish.

The next step is having my own darkroom and making prints with a photo enlarger which i also have but still need to be refurbished, for now I’m scanning negatives and printing with my epson photo printer. The photos looks good enough but not quite the same with darkroom prints.

Using film as medium bring me to a lot realisations about photography, my skills, cost and as such. I thought i was a pretty decent photographer but sadly I’m awful. and film exploits to the max, i only had about 10 or 15 usable frames from 36 exposure roll. Usable is clear, sharp enough, and correctly expose photos. Composition and aesthetics of an image is another story which i think i made horrible photos. So much to learn and i hope i won’t get tired of this wonderful hobby.

three weeks ago on my way home, stuck in the airport and all flights delayed. recently checked my camera and found this. “terminal despair” seems fitting.
