Mars' Blade and Material Works

Hey, this is Joe, I'm currently employed as a Blacksmith/ Weapons maker in Minnesota. This blog is dedicated to my random and many projects. I'm primarily a sword and knife maker but I also costume and cosplay when time alows.

Had an awesome time at Wizard World Minneapolis today. I’m now much more inspired to start some new cosplay. I’m thinking its time to start the Deathstroke costume I've been thinking about. Time to play with steel and kevlar...

It was one of those days at work today, had to take a pic wearing my coworker's newly finished tilting helm, also known as a frog-mouth helm.

Here’s a medieval knife set I made a while ago. The knives are forged out of 6150 and the prick is W1, the grips are black walnut with brass pins and tube rivet accents. The scabbard was a joint effort between my coworker and I, he was generous enough to offer to add all the tooling.

A tsuka-maki commission I finished for one of the Sensei at the Dojo I used to train at. It's done in katate-maki

Here are some progress shots of the Kirito plate project. From patterning to final finish the project took about 6 hours

Here is a all steel version of Kirito's chest and shoulder plates that I did as a commission for a friend. They are both 14ga steel with the chest plate being double layered for added dimension. I gave each one a light coat of bluing to add a slightly adged and more anime-esque look.
