For whoever needs to hear this:
Just because your friends don't like something, it doesn't mean you can't like it. Your friends shouldn't dictate your interests.
The opposite also holds true: just because your friends like something, it doesn't mean you have to like it, too.
You're allowed to have different interests, thoughts, and opinions than your friends.
we lived through another day, everybody. cheers to that. proud of you.
if you’ve taken the steps to recover, whether you started 10 years ago or yesterday, i’m so proud of you. recovery is hard and messy, and a long road filled with twists and turns. sometimes you’ll backtrack and find yourself crying in the shower or spending the whole day in bed - and that’s okay ! nothing worthwhile is without its hardships, and recovering is the one of the most worthwhile things you can do.
no matter what point you are in your recovery, you’re so brave and strong. one day you’ll see the worth and beauty that has existed in you all along. until that day, please know that i and everyone around you already sees it.
do something for yourself and only yourself today
stop insulting yourself. it doesn’t help.
But what if it’s true
it still doesn’t help. you can call yourself as many names as you want, but it won’t make you a better, happier, healthier or kinder person.
punishment doesn’t work. only positive reinforcement does. be kind to yourself and get better.
“what do you mean you have low empathy? you’re such a nice person!” EMPATHY DOES NOT EQUAL COMPASSION. EMPATHY DOES NOT EQUAL KINDNESS. COMPASSION IS A CHOICE. KINDNESS IS A CHOICE. EMPATHY IS NOT A CHOICE, AND JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE DOESN’T HAVE EMPATHY DOES NOT MEAN THEY CANNOT CHOOSE TO BE KIND AND COMPASSIONATE. “LOW EMPATHY” DOES NOT MEAN “BAD PERSON.” “LOW EMPATHY” DOES NOT MEAN “BAD PERSON.” “LOW EMPATHY” DOES NOT MEAN “BAD PERSON.”
shoutout to all high school dropouts, students who didn’t get accepted into college, students who used to be on honor roll but became overwhelmed, students who study for hours but still fail tests, or student who don’t study at all due to depression/anxiety, you are all stars and I’m wishing y'all the best luck possible to get back on your feet
Due to current world events, you may be experiencing depression or severe anxiety. If that’s the case, I am sorry. You are not alone, and you DO matter, even though you may not feel that way right now. It’s good that you’re in the world, I promise.
here’s my lil tip for you:
set yourself goals, but very small and precise ones. that way you can feel productive and accomplish things without the pressure of doing huge things. plus it feels nice to check things on a to-do list!
for the record, you don’t have to be productive or do all those things you’ve been meaning to do. this isn’t a vacation or time off. what’s going on is extremely stressful and scary, and that affects your everyday energy and overall well-being. it’s completely normal that you don’t have as much motivation or that you mood is lower than usual. these aren’t regular circumstances.
focus on is your physical and mental health. everything else comes after that.
remember to check in with yourself. make sure you’ve eaten enough. take a break if you need one, or nap if you’re sleep deprived. you need to take care of yourself first!!
With all the events going on recently I think it’s time to post this image againbc i’m tired of this shit
Thanks, I really needed this today!
people who are hyperempathetic might not be participating in spreading protest news
people who are triggered by talk of police violence might not be participating in spreading protest news
people who follow the news on their own and use tumblr to unwind and stay sane might not be participating in spreading protest news
People who are already very stressed from other things going on in their lives that have got them to the point to burnout and/or a breakdown may not be participating.
People who have various mental illnesses that put them in the above category of “just trying to avoid a complete breakdown/burnout” may not be participating.
People who are participating may be doing so in other areas and you may not see that on their social media because they use that as a way to relax while also participating in other ways.
You don’t have a right to demand to know why a person isn’t participating in a specific way–at best you’ll be rude, at worst you’ll be demanding detailed information about trauma and/or medical history from total strangers.
…And, honestly? If your judgement of if somebody “cares” is based entirely on what you can see of them doing, I have to wonder if you even care or if you’re entirely performative–reblog things saying “I care!” but doing absolutely nothing else.
(This isn’t to say there aren’t people who literally can’t do more than that for a variety of reasons including some of the above and others–I mean specifically people who get offended when they can’t see what other people are doing, strikes me as a “if you’re not visually performing in a way I think is Right then it doesn’t count” which is very much something that purely performative people say.)
(Also this isn’t to knock people who just spread information–contrary to popular belief, that’s actually useful and is often one of the most accessible means of helping for people who have various reasons that prevent them from going out and protesting or organizing in person such as illness, injury, disability, mental health, living in an entirely different country, etc.)
This is your reminder to make sure you took your meds today.
hey just something nice since things have been stressful. y’all are awesome!
No matter what a post on tumblr tries to tell you, your moral and ethical stances will never be determined by what you reblog and what you scroll past. Don’t let manipulation tactics force you into doing anything you don’t want to do.
I find it very interesting to note the times in which this post has a sudden resurgence. It often follows very stressful, upsetting events, where a lot of “REBLOG THIS OR YOU SUCK” posts start appearing on this site.
So I’ll say it again: it is okay if you come to tumblr to escape upsetting news. It is okay if you’re just here for fun and fandom. It is okay if you do not want to use your tumblr as a place to read about or spread the current events that are circulating. It is okay if you need a place to decompress and just relax. There are other ways to be involved in/support causes and you are allowed to set boundaries on social media platforms without it being indicative of your belief systems.
Your beliefs, values, ethics, and moral stances are not determined by whether or not you reblog something.
