Saturday Morning {001}
George nodded, listening to her give the answer he expected. She had never been the type who really went out on Friday nights, truthfully he hadn’t been either until he’d hit college and discovered how easy it was to have anonymous sex with guys, to not have to think for an hour or two. Of course the morning after when he was hungover and his best friend insisted on showing up at the crack of dawn was far less fun, he thought it was worth it.
“Yeah, we can do something,” George said as he downed the rest of his coffee. “Those things can wait until tomorrow if you want to actually do something fun today. We don’t need to spend it running my errands.” He felt bad, they always ended up doing stuff like that on Saturdays, but Saturdays were supposed to be their day together, not Martha’s day to make sure he’d survive another week. That wasn’t her responsibility and he hated that she thought it was, but he also knew it came from a good place.
“What are you talking about? Doing your laundry is the most fun I have all week!” She teased, though in between all the school work and intern work, the affair, doing his laundry was probably the most mundane thing she did. The act of washing and folding his clothes was the most relaxing and natural thing she did. As she watched him finish his drink, Martha still held half of her coffee in between her hands, watching his dreamy eyes move around the room and back to her face.
“Well let’s hear all your wonderful ideas, they can’t be better than laundry and cleaning.” She invited as she playfully poked his side.
