Spiked heels make a percussive metronome beat as the gem strides with purpose, heading for the main chamber of the ancient research facility. She is frankly surprised humans hadn’t gone digging into places they didn’t belong – the alarms don’t seem to have been set off even after thousands of years, nor have any of the defenses been activated. 

Perhaps these beings have at least some intelligence in their empty skulls.

Turning a corner, one clawed finger punches in the access code and the doors in front of her glide open, revealing the center of her research – a forced fusion. The cluster is a wretched thing, all mixed colors and sprawling limbs – but it is hers, and it is progress.

One hand extends, elongated middle finger humming with electricity, and as soon as the tip of her claw makes contact with the cluster it recoils, yellow veins of light spreading across its surface before it shatters, sending shards of gems flying in a burst of colors.

“….well. It’s a start, at least. They’re able to form a solid, cohesive body now. Far better than previous attempts– …?”

She turns as footsteps sound behind her, bristling.

“….who’s there? Show yourself.”

Expecting more of Jasper’s incessant ‘teasing’, Peridot caught herself staring in shock when the warrior had turned from her to pluck at torn wires. The technician stood confused for a few moments, the sound of snapping wires returning her from staring.

“Here, don’t bother with that, it’s too busted.” She directed, moving the damaged guard from Jasper’s hand. “The broken wires coming from my arm, can you twist them- carefully- at the ends so the sparking will stop?”

She knew Jasper’s limited knowledge of technology caused her to either break or avoid anything related to the subject. Her attempting to do anything but destroy Peridot’s guard was an act of kindness rarely seen in the orange gem. The green gem was reluctant to trust something as fragile as her arm to the brutish gem, but knew from experience the difficulty that came in making repairs to her body. That, and obviously this was some form of apology that she would not receive twice.

“...I can try.”

A lengthy pause and she moved slowly to do as Peridot had asked. She obviously had no confidence in acts that required such care and finesse -- she avoided mostly anything of the sort. However, after a few wires had been twisted she seemed to relax, able to do so without twisting the rest of Peridot’s arm in the process.

“...so, how did your guard get seized up in the first place? It seems like it happens often.”

             & she looks a sorry mess: one arm resting against the wall              as she holds herself up – obviously struggling with the startling              lack of a foot. Eyes are wide with not just surprise, but something              MORE. Earth has not been treating her well at all.

          ❝ I contacted Yellow Diamond, but obviously they’re lacking in              reinforcements. I’m beginning to suspect we’ll have to find a way              home ourselves.❞

“....Like I said -- a waste of my time.”

Amber eyes survey the shorter gem, taking in the missing appendage and offering only a raised brow in response. She was almost sure the ‘Crystal Gems’ had something to do with that.

“I don’t doubt Yellow Diamond would be slow to send reinforcements -- this backwater waste of space isn’t exactly something that they want pristine, if they left it alone for thousands of years...”

Arms crossing over broad chest, she gives Peridot a cool once-over, noting her rather frayed state.

“So. Do you have any idea how we’re actually going to accomplish that...?”

“Teasing!?” The technician repeated, incredulous, still riding on the ends of her furious tirade. “What you’re doing in impairing my work!”

It wasn’t like Peridot had to deal with teasing often, she was either outright ignored or made herself scarce. She was completely used to being ordered around and being left alone to her own devices, not to teasing.

Her still-armored arm swiped Jasper’s finger away from her gem, still clearly agitated but not nearly as angered as she was before.

“That is what I said, isn’t--”

She paused, brows furrowing as Peridot continued unhindered, a very slight flush reaching her face -- which she’d deny as a trick of the light if asked, of course.

“....hm. Well. I had thought I was...”

She was a soldier, not a socialite. Such things were foreign to her, and before now never even a thought crossing her mind.

So what had made her try it now?

“...”

As an apology, she -- slowly, painstakingly careful -- leaned over the workbench and started to sort through the wires still clinging to the damaged guard, the small shocks from the sparking equipment not seeming to faze her.

The action hadn’t so much hurt her as it had surprised her with much of her attention of unfurling the wires attached to her arm and fingers. The force of the box was enough to knock her slightly off balance mostly from the shock of it all.

“What is your problem!?” The technician all but screeched, whirling around to face the much larger gem. “Is it so demanding of you to be cooperative for one single second!? Or are you really so dense that you’ve somehow stumbled through thousands of years and through a war with your IDIOCY!?”

Peridot absolutely bristled with rage, her sharp teeth clenched tight in an angry snarl. Every part of her form was tense and near shaking as she took heavy unneeded breaths that heaved her tiny chest.

“So what is your problem then Commander Jasper?” Her title was dropped with all the malice such a small gem was capable of and then some.

The smile stayed in place on Jasper’s face -- brutal, sharp -- but it left her eyes, amber gaze growing icy as she leaned her hip against the workbench, towering over Peridot even at the short distance they stood apart.

A hand was raised -- looking at first as if intended for a blow -- but all at once she stopped, instead merely jabbing a finger into the shorter gem’s forehead gem, almost playfully.

“My problem is your apparent density. Is it really that hard to tell when someone is teasing you?”

“You’ve already broken one of my machines, I’m sure you’re more than capable of causing more damage.” The green gem snorted, knowing she had to have crossed a line but in her anger throwing caution to the wind.

Her lips were quirked into something forming between a grimace and a snarl as she unfurled her bare arm from her chest and onto the workbench as well.

Wires near entangled her slim green arm, pockets were made in the skin where surly more synthetic strands fell into her body. Most of them were still intact; certain others had been snapped, the exposed metal sparking dangerously close to soft skin.

“Just hand me the toolkit.”

For a moment the striped gem’s face twisted into an even more violent snarl -- and then she grinned, calmly striding over to the storage unit on the far wall and reaching to the left to grab the small metal box the other had so patiently demanded of her. 

The grin remained on her face as she walked back, coming up behind Peridot and accidentally misjudging the height at which she carried the repair kit, the metal clanking as it collided with the back of the technician’s head hard enough to rattle the assortment of tools inside.

“.....whoops.”

“Off not broken!” Peridot retorted quickly, harsh green eyes back on Jasper as if they could cause her some sort of harm.

“They’re not supposed to be strong, they’re supposed to be easy to work with, the heavier the material the bulkier and slower it is. Light material is weaker but quicker and more maneuverable.” In her anger the green gem went off into a tangent, as if Jasper knew what she was talking about- what a laugh!

Furious, the modern gem whirled with her back to the larger gem, placing the broken guard onto a nearby workbench. “I suppose you’ll just have to explain that it’s your fault for halting my work until I can make a replacement.” Peridot’s voice was cold and calculated, but the spite behind it was a reminder of just how fired up she was seconds ago.

The other’s tone and glare stopped her retreat and she turned to face Peridot, bristling as her expression twisted into a snarl.

Really, she was far too easily  p r o v o k e d.

“...Watch your tongue, Runt, or I’ll rip it out,” she growled, advancing one pace toward the green-hued gem with her former teasing completely forgotten.
