Am I the A-Hole For Taking My Friend's DNA Post-Mortem?
Okay, this needs a bit of context. I, RD, (42 M), have just entered my 4th round of a death match game me and my friends have been thrown into by primordial beings. There have been 6 rounds so far, but I missed a few.
Anyway, a freind of mine, M (34, M) and I had this really interesting dynamic roleplay-esque thing going in the first game, and we really bonded over that, especially when he beheaded me. From that point forward, while I've not been particularly allied with him in most games, we've met up frequently and gone off on random side quests together often. Well, this game, we found ourselves allied again. This game's "gimmick," so to speak, was basically that every session there would be a new twist, and in the penultimate session, the twist was that everyone received a superpower. Mine was that I could copy other's DNA and turn into them, effectively making me a shape-shifter.
Now, there's not much about M here, so I wanted to come out and say that for the record, he tends to be very good at the games. He even won one round, although I wasn't there to see it, as it was one of the ones I'd missed. This will be important later.
Anyways, at some point, I copied his DNA and, in doing so, was able to transform into him, as per usual. At this point, it was nearing the end of the session, and I was getting very used to using my abilities. So color me surprised when, seemingly out of nowhere, my partner for the games dies 3rd! This is where I feel like I might be the AH, especially with the consequences. As a prank, I use the pre-copied DNA to transform myself into M one last time, and it's pretty funny. The session ends, and my superpower fades with it, but I find that M's DNA doesn't. So, next session, I've fused into this DNA abomination thing that we'll call MR. My friends all think it's weird and are judging my way of dealing with grief (to each their own, dude), and I keep blacking out and finding myself in weird situations. My voice has changed, my face and body have changed, and to complicate matters further, M's body gets reanimated, and now there's two of us walking around. I do run into him, and we have a really dramatic moment, but still, something about it feels wrong. I don't want M's legacy to be some superpower DNA swap gone wrong, and even I'll admit the situation was a bit weird. So, AITA?
