I'm Sharlotte! Welcome to my blog, let me tell you a bit about myself and what my interests are!
I'm Aussie! I live on the East Coast of Australia, and I love my country
Ever since I was little, I've been obsessed with animals (not excluding bugs and spiders) and it's my dream job to be a zookeeper and to help educate people about our wildlife!
I enjoy photography, mostly of animals. I have a Canon M50 Mark II (which I'm still learning the ropes of as I'm self-taught) and since I don't yet have a macro lens for my camera, I use an APEXEL 100mm macro lens attachment for my phone to take macro photos of bugs and spiders
I love Marvel, although I haven't read the comics and only watch the MCU. I would love to read the comics but I joined the fandom quite late, so I found it easier to stick to the movies. My favourite character is Bucky and my favourite Bucky era is TFATWS
I am a huge HTTYD nerd. I've watched the movies, shows, I play Rise Of Berk, etc.
I read a lot. I don't quite have a favourite book/series since a lot of the time, the most recent ones I read become my favourite lmao
I've watched TVD a couple times! Also the Originals, but never watched Legacies since I've heard too many bad things about it. My favourite character is Enzo, and I named my border collie after him!
I love Adventure Time
I like bands! My favourite is 5sos (I'm seeing them in October! Also my fav ship is Mashton), but I also like 1D, NBT, The Wombats, RHCP, etc.
I game a little, although it's all on console since I don't have a PC :(

I also love fanfiction, but mostly just reading it. I've never posted a ff, but it may (?) happen in the future. I lack motivation and I don't think I'm a great writer, so most of my stuff sits in my drafts unfinished. If I do post it, however, it will be either Mashton (5sos) or BuckyxReader (MCU)
I also like Harry Potter, Disney, Sebastian Stan, reptiles... I don't think I'm missing anything

Does anyone else hate that scene in TVD where Rebakah comes back after April removes her dagger, and then she has Stefan, Caroline and Elena compelled in the school?
Rebekah asks Stefan what happened between him and Elena, and he says "She slept with Damon" and makes Elena sound like a cheater when they definitely broke up before her and Damon slept together. I get that Rebekah didn't ask WHY they broke up, but says "But I thought Elena was your epic love, what happened". He didn't technically call her a cheater, but out of context (like to Rebekahs ears) it sure sounds that way. And also, he was compelled to tell the truth, so he truly believed that her sleeping with Damon was the root of their issues (even though Elena slept with Damon after they broke up, and Stefan had only just found out).
And then people get mad when Elena says that she was in love with Damon (also compelled to say the truth, btw)? I genuinely don't get how Elena was in the wrong in this scene. And, love Caroline, but she was so wrong for telling Stefan when Elena asked her not to. Elena would have told him herself when she was ready, and even if she didn't, it was none of Stefan's business anyways.
One thing I always think about when it comes to HTTYD is the Light Fury's existence and the possibilities that could stem from it. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the Light Fury and the sexist way it was created, but the fact that it's considered a sub-species of Night Fury is in a way exciting, because it suggests that there could be other sub-species of dragons. Whether that be other sub-species of the Night Fury or sub-species of different dragon, its exciting all the same!
We do have some other examples of this in the HTTYD universe, like the Death Song and the Slithersong, and also the Snifflehunch and the Sneezlehunch (These are just 2 examples- I can't think of any more off the top of my head). It makes me wonder what else could have been out there that was never discovered, or at least never discovered by Berk. Even if the Light Fury itself has been a little problematic, given the fact that it was made purely for a mate for Toothless and the design is very sexist, it has sparked some creativity and imagination within the fandom which I love. I love seeing everyone's OC's they've made, and all of the unique dragon species they've created, it's so fun!
One other thing I've always been adamant about, is that I don't think the Light Fury sub-species is "endangered" or "rare". As we've clearly seen in The Hidden World, the Light Furies are very elusive and extremely good at staying out of sight. And as everyone saw in the scene where Toothless went to the Hidden World as the Alpha, there were a couple Light Furies in the background, which suggests that there is more of them out there. And if Light Furies are that elusive and are also closely related to Night Furies, maybe there are also a lot more Night Furies out there than originally thought and they're just hard to find since they're so good at staying hidden. Another thing we saw in that movie (and HTTYD 2) was that Toothless had abilities that he never knew about, which is assumed to be because he was probably orphaned at a young age and instead was taken in and tamed by Hiccup, so he never learned how to be a Night Fury properly. So maybe the other Night Furies, who grew up in the wild with other Night Furies and dragons, all knew how to conceal themselves better and stay out of sight or away from people. I mean, the best way to learn how to be a dragon is to be around other dragons like you, and Toothless never had that, so he never learnt how to be as elusive as other Furies until the Light Fury started teaching him.
And yeah, Grimmel was known to hunt Night Furies and to "drive them to near extinction" but do we really think that one man drove an entire species to extinction? Maybe he believes so, but he also didn't know about Toothless (who would probably have been well-known by that time, especially going on so many raids with Hiccup), so maybe he missed some. I just find it hard to believe he hunted a very powerful, intelligent, and elusive species to near extinction. And then there's the possibilities that the Night Furies could just live somewhere that's yet to be discovered, which is why they're so rarely seen.
So whether the Night Fury population is really low, or they're just good at staying hidden, I don't know. But I do think that the Light Furies are common, or at least not endangered, and they're just hard to find.

Feral cats - average of 3 native animals killed a night toxoplasmosis kills even more
Feral horses - habitat destruction on an mass level
Camels - habitat destruction and competition with natives

alrighty! a little thanksgiving thing, 1 week after (usa) thanksgiving
mashton: surprise kiss/impulsive kiss
"Is everyone else asleep?" Michael asks, creeping into the kitchen where Ashton is illuminated by the fridge light, a silhouette bent over rifling through the cheese drawer.
"I think so," Ashton says, straightening and flashing Michael a smile. He lets the fridge door swing closed empty-handed, popping a handful of trail mix from the bowl on the counter into his mouth instead. Michael joins him in leaning against it, briefly rubbing at his eyes before checking the time on the microwave clock.
1:23 am. Not bad for a big gathering with most of their friends.
"Today went well," Ashton says, offering Michael the trail mix bowl. He takes his own handful, even though he isn't particularly hungry. They've been eating on and off all day after the huge lunch they prepared, but Michael has a hard time resisting food when it's in front of him, and the trail mix has chocolate chips in it.
"We should do this again next year," Ashton hums, tossing a peanut in the air and failing to catch it in his mouth. Michael snorts.
"I'm exhausted. Don't talk to me about hosting a friendsgiving again for at least eight months."
Ashton tosses another peanut up, this time managing to get it. Michael gives an appropriate noise of approval, more subdued in the dark kitchen than he was when Calum and Ashton were tossing food to each other earlier in the afternoon.
Thankfully, Ashton doesn't try to catch any other peanuts. Michael is too tired to clean up after him right now. His social battery is completely depleted, and after deep cleaning the apartment yesterday and helping Ashton cook an elaborate meal today, he's ready to hibernate for weeks.
It was a good day. Luke and Calum arrived early and are staying over in Ashton's room. Scores of other friends appeared in time for lunch, loaded with enough side dishes that their tiny little dining table and all of the kitchen counters were covered. Their modest apartment doesn't have enough seating, but guests were happy to take up residence on the floor, carefully balancing their plates on the carpet or their crossed legs while everyone pretended to watch the football game. In reality, conversation was flowing from too many directions to hear much of what the announcers were saying, a contrast to the quieter morning when Michael actually did get to see some of the Macy's parade. The sound of multiple people's voices at once got too overwhelming for him, but Ashton sent him to the kitchen to escape halfway through under the guise of checking on the pies, a reprieve that Michael is thankful for. Even just half a room of distance between him and the bulk of the noise helped, and Ashton kept sending him smiles between words.
After lunch, they split off to play board games and card games. Michael absolutely dominated at Fluxx, then dessert was served. When everyone was full and content from various pies and cookies, the day wound down as a few people took their leave and the rest lounged in various places around the apartment. Michael joined the group in the living room, squished on the couch between Luke and the corner with a Hallmark holiday movie on tv. He ended up dozing until Luke accidentally elbowed him awake, then challenged him to MarioKart. Ashton prepared the pizzas that they picked up yesterday for dinner, and more and more guests tapered off after with hugs and well-wishes.
Eventually, only Calum and Luke remained. The four of them stayed up well into the night, catching up, enjoying being physically present instead of multiple cities away, and eating more pie. They all cleaned up as much as they could, then Calum and Luke finally retired to Ashton's room for the night.
It was exhausting, but good. Michael probably will let Ashton host again next year, as long as they're still roommates and they stay in this apartment or find a bigger one.
They make a good team. Michael already knew this, but it was clear at every moment today, from Ashton automatically grabbing Michael's favorite beverage for him when he got his own to Michael running out early this morning to buy more decks of cards so Ashton could play his favorite card game with as many people as wanted to. They easily moved around each other in the kitchen, Michael seamlessly following Ashton's directions and Ashton passing him whatever ingredient he needed before Michael had to ask.
"What was your favorite part?" Ashton asks. Michael hums, giving himself time to think.
"I liked when Calum made you laugh so much you almost shot soda out of your nose," he says.
"Oh, fuck off," Ashton laughs. Michael loves his laugh. He heard it dancing through their apartment a lot today, drifting to Michael's ears no matter where in the apartment it came from.
"What about you?" Michael asks.
"My favorite part?" Ashton clarifies. Michael nods. "I don't think it's happened, yet."
Michael barely has time to let out a confused "Huh?" before Ashton swoops forward and presses their lips together firmly. It only lasts for a second, not enough time for Michael to so much as close his eyes before it's over and Ashton steps out of his space again. Michael blinks at him, cursing the low light for not giving him a clear view of Ashton's face while he tries to figure out what's going on.
"Huh?" he asks again. Ashton huffs, a lacking echo of his earlier laugh.
"There," he says, gesturing vaguely towards Michael. "That was my favorite part. And if you never want it to happen again that's fine, I probably shouldn't have sprung it on you and I wasn't really thinking--"
"It can happen again," Michael says, words leaping out of him without thought. Ashton's mouth closes with a definitive click. Michael waits for one tense breath, then another, then Ashton grins.
"Oh," he says. "Cool."
Ashton swoops forward again, but this time Michael is ready to meet him.

bestie this has been in my ask box for So Long because i simply do not know how to train your dragon well enough for this! but let me try. okay. i went on the fandom wiki and there are way more dragons than i remember so we're just going to throw some out here. no one gets a night fury because they're too iconic
calum: so i feel like out of every possible duo, calum and ashton could absolutely be fantastic with the hideous zippleback, but i want to give all of them individual dragons so calum gets the monstrous nightmare. you have to be good under pressure to handle a dragon that can set itself on fire and keep a cool head, but i feel like calum could do well with something like that
ashton: see above about the hideous zippleback, but i think ashton could also have a deadly natter. loyal, powerful, intelligent, feels like he'd enjoy having that one
luke: let's go with a stormcutter for luke. i feel like luke would be one of those people who's clumsy on the ground, but does really well with a fast, agile, graceful dragon. get that guy up in the air and he's flying circles around everyone like it's easy (because with this dragon it is)
michael: the buffalord for sure. i don't know much about this one but i just know that it looks like a michael dragon

First of all, some of these songs come from THIS playlist compiled by Maggie @calumsclifford over the years. Some of the explanations are things that we talked about when I first suggested these songs for her playlist back in the day.
1. Growing Pains by Neck Deep: THE mashton song to me!!!! this is my favorite Neck Deep song and I love the loud uninhibited guitar and drums in the original version (although my favorite version is the acoustic Dr. Martens performance). The steady support in "Don't bear the weight of the world on your shoulders/It's not too heavy/ I'll break my back so you can feel like someone's on your side" is very mashton, especially when reflecting on the manner in which they both opened up about their mental health back in the day. ashton didn't start opening up about his own mental health until after michael was getting a lot of attention for saying he went to therapy and it was getting overwhelming. maggie and i theorized that ashton starting to talk about his own was a way to help michael by shouldering part of the advocacy burden and taking some of that pressure and attention from him. then the lines "They don't know what we share in the briefest of moments/ I'm head over heels for the smallest components/ That light in your eye or that look on your face/ Secure in the fact that we both know our place" also feels SO Them, because I do think that their dynamic is pretty understated and played down publicly. They don't really ever "perform" their friendship, and because it's one of the more subtle ones that means that a lot of their dynamic is kind of passed by and overlooked, but they're both secure in it. And then, of course, the emphasis on music in these lyrics :)
2. Summertime by My Chemical Romance: you can run away with me any time you like :) michael and ashton both had BIG "gotta get out of this town" energy at the beginning, which is partly why they became the battery that was so instrumental in driving the band forward in the early days. they both risked a lot on the conviction that the band could be successful and they wouldn't be stuck in dead end jobs in their hometown, so songs about running away with another person make me think of them.
3. Don't Give Up On Me by Andy Grammer: "I will fight for you" with how protective they are of each other and always willing to defend, the idea of not giving up reflected in their relentless drive within the band and their music!
4. King and Lionheart by Of Monsters and Men: yeah just read maggie's and my explanation here
5. War Cry by The National Parks: the loyalty! the protectiveness! they will stay by each other's side!
6. Garden Song by Phoebe Bridgers: this one is mostly vibes but i like the idea of imperfect growth for both of them
7. Fix You by Coldplay: the gentle but all-encompassing support <3
8. Undeniable You by Jukebox the Ghost: okay i'll be honest this is mostly because i wrote a fic at maggie's behest (can you tell that maggie was instrumental to my understanding of mashton back in the day)
9. The Party by Maisie Peters: okay! way back in the day (years ago at this point!) I had a conversation with @clumsyclifford about whether this was a malum or a mashton song. Mashton won out for a few reasons! The line "I'll take your chaos and your crooked in a heartbeat" feels very mashton, with that sort of unconditional acceptance that they have, but the lyrics also imply that they seem like an odd couple to outsiders, which i think is reflected in where mashton ranks in popularity in the fandom. I am also a HUGE sucker for the idea that mashton feels like they've known each other since childhood. It's one of my favorite ways of portraying how comfortable they are with each other in my writing (I know there's a line in Puzzle Pieces that references that), and with the history that luke/michael/calum have, I like to think that Ashton doesn't feel any different even though he came around a few years later. The line "People ask how long have I loved you, no comment/ 'Cause probably since I was seven and you were eight/ We didn't know each other, but baby, it was fate" is SUCH a mashton line to me because of it
10. Small Hands by Radical Face: bruh just read these lyrics they make me want to stare at the ceiling and maybe cry. the support! the love! the conviction that they will get through this and that the narrator is here for whatever the subject needs! "And if you wind up in the dark again/ Just turn and call my name/ And if the fire in your chest goes out/ Well I'll hold you all the same/ And if you need to take this out on me/ Well you know I won't complain"
11. peace by Taylor Swift: this is one of those "imperfect love" songs that i like. even so, there's the unending loyalty in this one, and the lines "All these people think love's for show/ But I would die for you in secret" definitely support the idea i talked about earlier with how a lot of their relationship is understated and private. folklore in general is also a mashton album though
12. Honeybee by The Head and the Heart: big "you're my person despite our hardships" energy that i love
13. For Me, It's You by Train: honestly? i just wanted to include a train song. i like the way that so many train songs are kind of casual love? understated? the way that this is sung is so relaxed, almost lazy, and yet you have the immensely touching "for me, it's you" sentiment. i like to think that's mashton's vibe
14. The Edge of Tonight by All Time Low: i love the idea that they find solace in each other and that they act as emotional anchors!!! the idea of keeping each other safe!!!!
15. Float by HARBOUR: "Understated, overwhelming/ Life is always best when you're around" their dynamic is understated but that doesn't mean it isn't profound!!!! the safety of being able to step off the ledge with each other and trusting that you'll float instead of fall!
16. Floral & Fading by Pierce the Veil: okay full discretion part of the reason this one is on the list is because it's on a fic playlist for a mashton series i'm working on. also though, the idea of running away together! i'm sure you can tell some kind of big touchstone ideas i have about mashton from these song selections and what parts i point out lol
17. Favorite Place by All Time Low ft. The Band Camino: another person being a refuge! another person who is fiery and can't be tamed but that you can still love and be loved by! also "you're everything I love about/ The things I hate in me" giving big "opposite ends of the battery" energy with the idea that they're so similar but seeing those traits in a different person completely flips your view to the opposite.
18. Come to Me by The Goo Goo Dolls: i just wanted a goo goo dolls one :) but also! once again! the idea of a safe place in another person! physically coming together!
19. My Kind by Alessia Cara: a lot of my justification of this one is the line "Really wish I knew you sooner than my 20s" with that idea that mashton feels like they met as kids and wishes that they had. there's also so much about nostalgia and growing up in this song, and we know that they had their growing pains and got to experience those moments with each other and have grown into very unique and distinct individuals. the chorus is also very much them as individuals, and the lines "I wish somebody would've told me I'd be here now/ 'Cause this kind of life is one to sing about" definitely feels like them looking back at where they came from and where they ended up. i love the optimism of older mashton. (i love the optimism of all older 5sos, i love that despite their challenges and pressures they all seem to be absolutely thriving and happy)
20. It Won't Be Like This Forever by Neck Deep: I wanted to bookend the playlist with Neck Deep and this one is a great, optimistic look on their journey together! The equal reassurance that things will get better! The way that mashton constantly raises each other up!
BONUS CONTENT:
"One Day Robots Will Cry" by Cobra Starship is also a mashton song to me. i have no way to justify it other than the color purple. maybe one day i'll write a fic. idk. this song did not fit on the playlist but it can be a bonus track
I will also say that Bank on the Funeral by Matt Maeson is a mashton album to me. again, no justification
