Late Night Starters || Still Accepting!
"It is nice...it's not so overwhelming..."
Claus's response was quiet, his eyes looking over his surroundings.
It was late, incredibly late, the sun had long since set and his brother and father had already gone to bed. For Claus however, it was another restless night, one he knew he wouldn't be able to fight against no matter how hard he tried. It was a situation he had long become used to. However, one thing different tonight. Unlike every other night he had outside, where he wandered alone until either the sun eventually rose or exhaustion drowned any thoughts he might have; another person had followed him out. Jeff... Insomnia had gripped the both of them. So, here they were, wandering around the outskirts of Tazmily when the rest of the world was likely dreaming away. Claus could see the town, noticed how empty it looked from their spot. Usually brightly lit windows were now darkened and the only source of light he could take notice of were the street lamps that bathed everything in an oddly warm glow. It was haunting, quiet, silent aside from the wind and the chipping of crickets. And yet, such a time comforted him. At times like these, he could actually wander out into the square and take a look at the town he'd once known all without having to fear the many people that would be present at any other time of the day.
"It can feel a little sad but...the quiet's nicer compared to all the noise..."

reblog if you are okay with doing one-off replies or receiving asks that arenât going to turn into threads
Sometimes, you wanna receive memes and answer asks, but you arenât pressed for the answered ask to turn into a thread. The same goes for sending memes and sometimes you donât wanna turn the answer into a thread, you are happy with it as is. Treating asks like vignettes and not just turning everything into a thread. Thatâs valid! Let your followers know that its okay if they donât turn everything into a thread. They can send memes and not have to turn everything into threads.

Hnn⊠that WAS a bit harsh, even for Ness- he wasnât TRYING to hurt their feelings, it just came out kinda.. wrong! Heâd hate to drive someone away from the freedom that was the arcade, after all, it was supposed to be stress free, right? With a sigh, he makes his way over to the âcloggedâ machine for a better look. Ah, pinballâŠ. a true classic. But⊠not so much when the machine isnât working at its best.  âHeyâ hey.. no biggie, pal! Donât go just yet, I wasnât beinâ very nice, Iâm sorry. Lemme see what I can do, okay?â a small nod for reassurance and he carefully squats down to get a good look at the machine. From experience, he usually knows the problem isnât always able to be seen with a naked eye. Ugh, of course! It was totally un-even. NOT ideal for a game that required pristine balance such as pinball. âAw, jee- Itâs all wobbly! See? It aught to be nice and sturdy- so you have more control over the ball. I think I know how to fix it- gimme ONE second!â and off he went! ⊠To the nearest trash can, that is. It only takes a few moments of digging around for Ness to find the perfect solution! Cardboard! Carefully, he folds the edges, to make a sort of⊠balance for the shorter leg of the machine , and he slooowly slides it under. âAh-ha! Boom! See? Nice and sturdyâ go on. Try it again, okay?â
Claus was really tempted to just leave.Â
It wasnât really the strangerâs fault- no- it was a thought that had been plaguing the gingerâs mind since heâd gotten here. Even with the mechanical parts of his body hidden away he couldnât help the feeling of people staring at him or how claustrophobic he felt being among so many people. It was new, strange, and without his brother he felt...scared.Â
Heâd been told it would be fine, that he should try playing games to take his mind off the anxiety that gnawed at him, but...well...it was obvious that hadnât worked out...Â
The ginger kept his head down, only half listening to to the raven haired boyâs words as he spoke. Heâd leave- yeah heâd leave it was for the best- heâd apologize and just go ho--Â wait huh?Â
A single sky blue eye blinked upon hearing the otherâs sudden enthusiasm about fixing the machine. Claus turned his gaze upwards just in time to see the boy dart outside to find a solution to the wobbly pinball machine. It left the altered psychic...confused. Why was this boy trying to help him? Claus hardly had the time to think it over before the strange boy came back with...cardboard (????) in his hands. A moment passed, another, Claus watching the otherâs actions in utter silence. Once the pinball machine was âfixedâ he really wasnât certain what to do. The urge to run was still there, but...this boy had gone out of his way to help him (the boy looked familiar. hauntingly familiar...Claus tried to shove the thought away).Â
... Without a word, the ginger awkwardly approached the pinball machine, taking notice of how it no longer wobbled when he tried to play it. So. he started the game over.
âIt works now...âÂ
He breathed, his eyes widening upon the fact he was now able to play it proper and focus on the game itself rather than the everchanging center of gravity. It was a simple game, pointless maybe, but there certainly was a fun to be had. It didnât take long for Claus to get absorbed into the game. The numbers going ever higher with Claus refusing to let the ball slip away until heâd reached the score heâd wanted. It was only after the beginnings of a determined smile tugged at his lips that he remembered he hadnât even thanked the one who had helped him.Â
The realization made him jolt, resulting in a swift loss.Â
Oops...Â
Claus sheepishly looked over to the stranger, able to take in more of his appearance now that he wasnât panicking.Â
âS-Sorry...I wanted to see how the game worked and completely forgot to thank you...âÂ
A pause. This boy...he recognized this boy...knew this boy...just like how heâd recognized this town...it was making his stomach do flips. Even so, this familiar stranger had helped him. Even if it was for something small, most people didnât ever really...help him.Â
âThank you...I...I didnât know what to do about it...I really just thought itâd be best for me to leave...âÂ
sunflower-comingfrom-nowhereâ:
A twinkle in his eyes came from the compliment. It obviously wasnât the first time that someone had complimented the garden and how well he had taken care of it so well, but it always have him a boost in confidence.
âYouâŠYou really think soâŠ?â Lucas asked with a hint of shock in his voice. Though the surprise of Claus being alright with seeing his phone added onto that. At least he didnât really mind it; it was always better safe than sorry on which version of his brother or even himself for that matter had a hatred for modern technology.
A widen smile came to Lucas as he put his phone back into his pocket. âItâs a lot of hard work for both of them, but itâs always worth it when spring and summer peak! Grandpa mostly keeps up the garden back at home, and Iâm sure heâs used to it by now.â
Claus nodded in response to Lucasâs question, a soft smile on his face as he watched the other. He truly did mean what he said. Taking care of flowers was no easy task. Even something as small as a planter felt like a lot for Claus, he couldnât imagine just how much work went into taking care of an entire garden of flowers. Much less two of them! Even if one of the gardens had two people caring for it, it still had Lucasâs efforts on full display.Â
âThey must be a lotta work. But, like you said itâs worth it- at least- from what I saw! All those flowers blooming and being in such good health...Itâs âcause both you and grandpa worked so hard.âÂ
If there was one thing that never changed between the versions of his brother that Claus had met, it was that kindness and determination that resided within the otherâs heart. Perhaps Lucas didnât realize it, or maybe he did, but whether he took notice of his own strength or not, Claus would always look up to it... The strength that he would always lack. Â
âAre you gonna be planting anything new in the spring? Or is it gonna stay as is?âÂ
