a level advice & results!
i didnt make a post about it cause i’m not happy w my a level results but i realised it’s probably helpful to know what i got and what worked for me.
i took a level maths, law, further maths and i completed an epq in maths. i firmed ucl & insured edi and i ended up getting into uni of edi for maths.
i got an A* in maths, A* in maths, A* in epq and a B in further maths (:()
& here’s my advice:
law - quizlets are the way forward. i learnt the general flow of answering questions and then i put the key cases for each topic into a quizlet and just memorised that (if anyone wants the link to my whole quizlet, message me!). honestly i didnt spend much time revising law, so i spent around 4 hours the day before just cramming cases. this might not work for everyone, so i’d also recommend spacing out the learning over several months and just going over and relearning the casest keep it in ur long term memory.
maths - honestly, bc i did further maths i didn’t really need to revise maths HOWEVER i recommend doing as many problem questions as possible, and then revising the actual content when you get stuck on questions. use ur textbook and past paper questions, physicsandmathstutor is also a good shout.
further maths - i was stupid, and didn’t start revising for further maths until a week and a half before my first exam, which i did the worst on (the rest of the papers were at an A grade). revise, even if you struggle to pay attention. do 10 minutes and then take 10 minutes off if you really struggle with staying doing an activity, bc it’s better than doing nothing, it’s mainly just staying consistent with your studying and starting at the start lol.
epq - honestly man just set a timeline n stick to em. i didn’t but i’m a quick reader so i could absorb sources quicker. google scholar is ur best friend, alongside citethisforme, and look at people’s tips for quickly reading the sources. if the abstract & conclusion don’t address your question, don’t read the whole source.
hope this helps someone lol.
also, don’t compare ur grades to anyone. i’m not unhappy w the B, it’s a good grade, just unfortunately it meant i couldn’t get into my firm choice uni & has limited my choices at uofe. if i got into my firm choice uni with BBB, i would be just as happy as if i got A*A*A*. for me, grades weren’t as important as my place at uni. it’s different for everyone.

full offense but if my college professor can look me in my eyes while im wearing a "baby slut" crop top and mini skirt and explain the homework, high school teachers should be able to fucking handle a literal child wearing shorts smh
07.04.2019 Sitting in my sunlit appartement, eating breakfast and listening to Beirut. My friends and I were at their concert last night - it was so lovely! I’m still a bit hungover but I’ve got a lot on my to do list. Let’s get this bread!
Can I just say how fucking important all of what Phil said was???
He talked about it all in a lighthearted manner because that’s Phil, but you guys.
He was outed. Phil got outed. It turned out okay for him, but Phil got outed. Phil lived through one of the scariest things possible as a gay person: being forced into a potentially dangerous situation and not knowing who you could trust. Phil was outed in rural Britain when being gay wasn’t as accepted as current times and that’s terrifying. He had that control, that autonomy, taken from him.
Phil talked about how shameful you feel before you come out, even if it’s to people you know are accepting. He talked about the way that you feel guilty for being yourself, for not being yourself, for hiding it, for telling people, and for not telling people. That’s so often ignored in coming out stories and people don’t seem to realize even when you’re coming out to people you know will accept you, you still feel guilty.
He talked about the ways that when you’re young and not positive and you try to force yourself to be straight like everyone else and the realization that you’re just not meant to be like everyone else.
He talked about not letting yourself hang onto people you know won’t accept you; that those kinds of don’t have a place in your life and stop trying to make them fit.
He talked about the way that having a few friends who accept you literally changes how you view your sexuality and how you express it and the importance of having allies.
The way he talked about the fact that as a queer person, especially a het/cis passing, you never stop coming out. That you’ll always be defending your sexuality, that people will always just assume. That it’s tiring but it never stops.
Most of all, Phil pointed out how stupid being homophobic is. How could you not want another person to be happy, to live authentically? How could you want another person to live in any way that made them feel like their life was incomplete?
He tackled these topics so lightheartedly and so quickly and so Phil-like it was almost easy to forget that these topics are so fucking intense.
At the end of it, I’m so proud of Phil. I’m so proud of him for what he did for himself, what he did for Dan, and what he’s doing for us.
I’m just so proud of him.
//Last week was chaotic, there was so much I had to do in a short period of time but it’s over now (finally). This week isn't going to be much better as I have one last midterm to study for on Wednesday and after that its time to get to preparing for exams in April//
