 Luigi Russolo, Futurist: Noise, Visual Arts, and the Occult

Luigi Russolo(1885-1947), best-known for authoring the 1913 manifesto The Art of Noises (public library) and regarded as the first noise artist. The father of the first systematic poetics of noise, Russolo played a crucial role in the evolution of 20th-century musical aesthetics and influenced such music icons as Edgar Varese, Pierre Schaeffer, and John Cage. He was also one of the first theorists of electronic music and is even considered by some the inventor of the synthesizer.

Spectacular book on Pierre Henry

Pierre Henry's House of Sounds

Incredible 217-page hardcover book documenting Pierre Henry's legendary 'House Of Sound' in Paris, plus a CD including four previously unreleased works. The 84 year old French composer should need scant introduction to electronic music aficionados and musicians, but for everyone else we'll give a brief one anyway - Henry is widely acknowledged as a pioneer of musique concrète, creating some of the genre's earliest known compositions in cooperation with Pierre Schaeffer at the Club d'Essai studio at France's national Radio and TV facilities, and creating an immense, definitive body of experimental electronic music with special emphasis on spatialisation during his illustrious lifetime. The book largely comprises photographs of his vintage equipment, unique instruments, stacks (and stacks) of tapes, artwork and his famous house/studio, together with notes and a short biography by Maurice Fleuret. His four unreleased compositions 'Capriccio', 'Phrases de quatuor', 'Miroirs du temps' and 'Envol' were all created between 2000 and 2010, including a score for choreography, a sound poem, and a tribute to Olivier Messiaen. Limited edition of 500 copies - unmissable.

ORSON WELLES INTERVIEWS ISIDORE ISOU

Isidore Isou (1925, Botosani, Romania – 2007, Paris), the ingenious Romanian poet, artist, economist, novelist, film-maker, choreographer and theoretician, created in 1945 the last avant-garde movement to attempt to overthrow everything – *Lettrism*, a movement that would embrace personalities as diverse as Gabriel Pomerand, Maurice Lemaître, Gil J Wolman and Guy Debord. Isou is the author of a huge body of work centered on the act of creation, for which he proposed a method, *Creatics,* which is a systematic approach to understanding and grasping the mechanics of creation.

In connection with the exhibition, the Romanian Cultural Institute of Stockholm is publishing a unique book on Isou’s *hypergraphic novels*, coordinated by Frédéric Acquaviva, Broutin, Maurice Lemaître, Cosana Nicolae Eram, Jonas (J) Magnusson, Roland Sabatier, as well as reproductions of selected plates and texts by Isidore Isou. The release of the publication will take place at the Romanian Cultural Institute of Stockholm on April 12. Andrei Bitov - A CAPTIVE OF THE CAUCASUS

    Andrei Bitov is the current president of the Russian PEN club and is commonly considered the dean of Russian letters. His most famous work is the novel Pushkin House that he wrote in the 60s/70s. Many consider him among the foremost Russian writers of the late 20th century. 

A Captive of the Caucasus is an intellectually spirited inquiry into the persistent idea of homeland and the individual's identity, cultural and creative during his trip to Armenia and Georgia. His descriptions of Armenia, its people, customs, language, nature and architecture are first and foremost very poetic and at the same time fresh.

Here is a small excerpt:

An Armenian letter has the greatness of a monument and the gentleness of life, the biblical antiquity of round flat bread and the piquancy of the green comma of a pepper, the lushness and translucency of grapes and the severity and grace of a bottle, the soft curl of the sheep's wool and the sturdiness of the shepherd's crook, and the line of the shepherd's shoulder...and the line of the back of his neck...And all of these exactly match the sound represented by the line.

     I still don't know the Armenian language, but that is precisely why I swear to the truth of my perception. All I had before was the sound and its representation; the meaning of the spoken word was beyond me.

     This alphabet was created by a genius with an astonishing sense of his homeland-it was created once and forever-it is perfect. That man was like God in the days of Creation...
