Low Hanging Fruit is giving away my new EP and Bryan Kessler's recent LP to their 2015th follower on Soundcloud. Check them out!
Super excited to announce my new EP is coming out March 16th on Low Hanging Fruit. Have a listen~
From the label:
Our first new release in 2015 also marks the label debut of Cleveland-bred soundsmith asound - thoroughly trained on all sorts of musical input devices, this newcoming producer nevertheless boasts a uniquely intuitive approach to electronic music. Sitting comfortably between genre chairs, these sonics are difficult to categorize, but easy to understand, rich in atmospheric textures and melodic outbursts. At first glance, the deeply engaging soundscapes and hazy rhythms might seem like a detour for the label that brought you the techno cut-up lunacy of Bryan Kessler or the smoldering acid loops of Camp Inc. - however, asound's multitimbral jams quickly reveal ascendancies from both the dance floor and living room factions, meticulously carving out their own cozy habitat. Yeah, you guessed it: all killers, no fillers!
All music by Matthew Ryals. Mastered by Jörg Burger. Artwork by Amelie Neumann / Morsenvan. This is LOW005.

A video of me performing Long Term Casual live on WOBC's Live From Studio B. Those guys know how to make videos!
Preparation
This year should see two releases, a few tours, collaborations, and many other shows. I am changing my live set significantly with more analog gear to make it more performance based.
In the first version of my live set, which I used in the fall and winter shows of 2014, I had achieved a certain amount of flexibility, but it was still too limited. It felt too safe and some tracks lacked a certain amount of risk. This next version which is based more around synths, both hardware and software synths, has an extreme amount of flexibility for improvisation and tonal exploration.
The drums have all been moved to the Tempest rather than audio loops in Ableton. This means I am making all the drums from scratch in the Tempest. (Well, a few of the drums sounds use the Tempest samples as a starting point.)
The tracks that are synth based are now actually played by synths usually sequenced in Ableton. These synths include two small analog synths and two software synths controlled by my controller.
Some tracks remain in the style of the first version of my live set, but with new drums. Most of these are the sample based tracks. These may undergo more changes later.
Of course, this means my Ableton project is experiencing an extreme make over. The basic changes should be finished within a few weeks and I should begin rehearsals by the end of January.
mixing, new gear
Life in the studio has been mostly about mixing what I'm slowly getting more confident in thinking of as an album. It is almost finished. These fine tunings require periodic breaks, usually a few days or so, for me to hear the track with fresh ears again.
I mentioned something about a single a few posts ago that maybe you read. Well, that single has been expanded to an EP and it is coming out early next year. More info on that later.
I've got some new gear. So, now I will have to begin preparing for shows with the new setup. I'll have two small analog synths, drum synth, mixer, and a controller for a soft synth and other controls. I'll post a photo once I have everything setup again. Apparently, I need a few more cables!

Update 10/21/14
Haven't really been doing a nice job updating on what is going on behind the scenes. Here's an attempt~
Had my first show as Asound at Now That's Class in Cleveland on Oct. 13th. It went pretty well. There wasn't any terrible errors and I played around with material a fair amount. Current setup is quite small. I want to be able to experiment more and that will require a bit of an expansion as finances allow. The current setup is based around ableton, livid controller, and vocals.
I'm slowly booking more shows and at the moment the next one is at Pat's in the Flats with Stage Hands. More info here - https://www.facebook.com/events/1522574747987462/?ref=22.
I have a two-track single coming soon on a label I'll reveal soon. Pretty excited about that.
Finishing up an LP that I began working on right at the beginning of 2014. Mixing it slowly and looking for a home for it.
Got my first hardware synth: DSI Tempest drum machine/synth. Started playing around with it.
Asound Live at Now That's Class
Playing a show with Marateck & Nope @ 9PM on Monday Oct. 13.
