fight n i g h t ♦ mattie & leon
Leon observed the bloody seen with indifference, and though he could see how this could be a horrendous memory, to him it was just a reality of mutants existence. He did give her uncle credit though, he was brave. Trying to compromise with the scared was like trying to calm an animal that had been backed into a corner. It was possible, but extremely difficult and delicate. The slightest twitch would send these humans into the throws of panic. Of course this came true. You could practically see as the small blond girl lost her innocence. It was always the eyes you could tell this from, they way they hardened. Leon, though intrigued by the memory, decided to wander and explore the others just to see what else he could use in the future. The mind was complex so, theoretically, each person had their own way of breaking it down into navigable paths. Leon always pictured his mother’s gardens. When you got to a certain areas certain memories could be seen. Dead plants meant bad memories and beautiful plants meant good. It was simple. In every garden there was a crypt and a large tree. Leon liked to think of the crypt as the worst memory, and the large tree as the best. They were the two large defining moments; one breaking your hope of humanity and the other reaffirming your hope.
A load scream echoed throughout the room as Leon dropped to his knees, shaking in pain. His breaths becomes labored pants and the arms the kept his face from falling on the ground shook with the effort. Leon tried to hold onto the slowly unthreading connection, knowing how dangerous it would be if it was forcibly broken. When he was in somebodies mind, he couldn’t move on the outside. If his body was killed when he was in this person’s memories, when he returned to his old body he would die. By being slammed back into his body like he was, there was always a danger. This danger was for both Mattie and Leon. The mind was delicate and if she shattered either of theirs by accident there was no telling what could happen.
Things were slowly unraveling, in a way that neither or them could seemingly control. It was apparent that, together, their abilities were incredibly dangerous. The both of them were nearly frozen with trauma and it was the absolute worst they could do. It goes without reason that there's not a way they would ever be paired together for anything, especially not if anybody found out about this duel. Seeing these images again, Mattie had practically forgotten about just how devastating it really was. She slammed her hand on the ground, a part of her trying to fight against what she could not control and the other part just a small girl again. One who'd just seen her uncle killed and practically left to rot. It was undeniable that neither of them were going to come out of this duel alive if Mattie couldn't pull them away from this safely. Any amount of things could happen had she gone wrong, she wasn't about to lose the only friend she'd made.
The little girl she once was found her eyes on a flame, studying it as she focused her mind on something in the real world. Her eyes found Leon's in the real world, closing them and releasing the two of them from her memories. It drained her, the focus, the amount of power that had been reduced from her. Mattie fell to the ground, hitting her head against the floor, unable to look towards Leon to see how he was. Things were going blurry, and all she wanted was to close her eyes. "Leon--" She trailed off.
