Oeuvre Complete. In February I forgot to mark the tenth anniversary of my decision to pursue comics as my full-time creative field. But my birthday week is as good a time as any. Here is the in-print sum of my efforts over the past decade... missing are 2 internet-only graphic novels I couldn’t afford to print, and a scattering of smaller pieces for online and other people’s publications. This looks to me like a pathetic output, and even worse I know it’s likely to outweigh what I’ll put out in the next ten years. But I can look at these things and know that I was active, I was here, and I left a mark for somebody somewhere to have a chance to see. A page from my new comic SON OF SON OF TOMAHAWK, which you can buy at the link in my bio! This page is an homage to a very specific tradition in Japanese alternative comics, the “GARO Ending” as suggested by @mangaberg and my dear friend Joe McCulloch. Invented by Yoshiharu Tsuge in his masterful story “The Swamp” for GARO magazine, a splash page illustrating a main character’s helpless outcry against an environment subsuming them became a tradition at the magazine (image 3 here is by Kuniko Tsurita, 4 by Seiichi Hayashi). I’m American though, so my comic doesn’t end with this shot!
