Yo Sam, question: if you have to live in either a fantasy world or a sci fi one which would it be? Personally I like both but growing up with computers and having a fascination with hardware I'd take sci fi over fantasy any day of the week..
I’ve never thought of this before; and after thinking about it for a few days, i couldn’t really come to a decision. Whenever i try to think of a story, it always seems to take place in the real world, in realistic situations (except everyone is an anthro animal). Fantasy or Sci Fi really don’t come to me. If i had to live in either type of world, it would depend on whats there. If it has reptiles, or is nudist friendly, I’d take it.
If you think about it though, science fiction is supposed to use science to make fantastical things appear in a realistic environment, and a lot of science fiction can predict the future because of this (1 example; Star Trek and cellphones, tablets, 3d printers, Siri, and also, holodecks, hypospray, sentient AI and universal translators have been in development for a short while. So is the warp drive, but we’re probably still a couple decades, if not a century or two, behind on that front...). So... We’re already in a science fiction universe in a way. We just think of it as mundane because we’re not in the future and by the time we learn about it, it’s already been normalized xD
