finally, a worthy apprentice.
strict, but because he wants what's best for them.
likes to have them around more often than not, to keep an eye on them, make sure they're safe and under his protection.
extremely proud of their advancement in training (but really, extremely proud of everything they do).
teaches them about everything, not just combat or meditation. goes on to explain about the systems of the galaxy he visited, their peculiarities, their languages. how to pilot, how to make good tea.
sometimes doesn't know what to do. if they're going through something, crying or just having a difficult time, he won't exactly be great on comforting them, but he will try to distract them with something else to get their mind off the problem for a moment. he's always relieved when they're happy.
not really vocal about his love for them, but doesn't hide it either. soft expressions, smiles, a pat to the head to say "you're doing great".
but from time to time, he will say how proud he is before they sleep.
does whatever he can to make sure their childhood is better than his. never yells, never lays a hand on them. doesn't think of himself as an excellent father, but still goes out of his way to give his child the life he couldn't have.
and when they grow up, it's bittersweet. he misses the wonders, the learning, but seeing how amazing they turned out in his eyes, he feels, again, such pride.
starts to care for himself more. he would never want his beloved kid to end up alone in this forsaken galaxy, so he's less cruel to himself. stops constantly thinking about revenge, there's more to life than an endless cicle of danger. now he's always thinking of them.
bonus - if it had been an adoption:
honestly, couldn't bear to see someone so young all alone, with no one to care for them.
so, he decided to take matters into his own hands.
very gentle to his best attempt. smiles when they smile. doesn't even recognize this new version of himself, one so soft and careful.
a little surprised when they call him "dad" for the first time. takes a while to get used to it, but the feeling is so amazing, it adds to his will to live, and he can't help but adore it.
bonus - if it came to happen to his partner:
so, so loving towards both of them.
thinks of his home planet, where he would never get to see a child of his own grow up, and for the first time in his life, considers himself lucky.
that kid would see so much sweetness around them they would probably get sick.
"let's have another one".
he's completely melted into this new life, devoted to his family.
"family", a word he never imagined he would come to love so dearly.
Thinking about how Maul spends so much time just trying to make friends and then being either told "no, go away" or forced to watch his new friends die. He genuinely cares about the people he's working with; he's upset when they get hurt or die, he's out here acting as a living shield between them and danger, and it always ends terribly for everyone. Like damn can he have just one good, healthy, stable friendship that actually lasts, please?
in my opinion one of the hottest thing maul ever did was sit on that throne like a slut, leg propped up, shirt open, deflecting blaster fire with one lazy flick of his wrist
I kinda miss Maul's glowing eyes from TCW, so I made a little edit!
