While of course I am devastated by the carriage crash that recently occured at the Comfy Inn on Nell Street, it is only what city council deserves for not heeding my 10 complaints 😌
The other lodgers may be "tired of my crowing" but I am still collecting newspapers with headlines such as "unpredictable crash" or lines such as "who could have foreseen this?"
I COULD!!! I COULD HAVE! BUT YOU DID NOT WANT TO LISTEN TO A FEMALE FOREIGNER DID YOU? The blood of the injured is on city council's hands 🤷♀️
One of the biggest issues of moving to England as a person who is Ukrainian AND neurodivergent is not knowing how to answer the small talk question of "how are you", but today I was reminded that Ukrainian blessed me with the phrase that roughly translates as "living is hard but dying would be a pity" and can we please naturalise it so I can use it all day every day
Okay so this post breached containment I think so I feel the need to clarify, because the vibes in the notes seem to suggest that people see this as an inspirational quote bestowed onto someone to help them soldier on. That's not how Ukrainians do it. Rather, imagine a person that looks like they haven't slept in three days and also hiked up a mountain. They are asked "Hey how you doing buddy", and in response they let out the deepest, most done with this shit sigh you can imagine, mutter their favourite curse word and THEN they say the phrase (which, by the way, is four words in Ukrainian - тяжко жити, шкода вмерти/tyazhko zhyty, shkoda vmerty). It's said as if they're trying to convince themselves that dying would, indeed, he a pity. The other person looks at them, their eyes full of understanding, sigh also and then say "well at least we're not russians".
And THAT is what helps a Ukrainian soldier on.
Okay so uh this double breached containment and I'm really really scared because this was my second post on Tumblr dot com out of the two I made in total and now it has like 650 notes so I hope it'll make you guys happy to see my flatmate's mug that has The Phrase on it.
Bonus: the other side that says "what did I do to deserve this".
Mad Scientists get all the rep. Where's other Mad members of STEM fields? Mad Culinarians? Mad Engineers? Mad Sociologists?
MAD ARTISTS OF COURSE!! MOST OF ARTISTS ARE EVEN WORSE THAN MAD SCIENTISTS AND MORE MENTALLY ILL IF YOU GIVE THEM ENOUGH POWER
I don't care for sensual pleasures but honestly I think a rusalka would not wish to kill me and I think our courtship would be short yet fiery
In other news, I went to Lyme Regis with @theseaglassscientist last week! The fossils there are truly magnificent, so much history in one place! I limited myself to taking only one specimen back with me to the Society, in order to preserve the natural wonder.
This, of course, was where one of my idols, paleontologist Mary Anning, discovered a massive Ichthyosaurus skeleton!
I meant to stay longer but sadly Arthur "did not want me to drown" so we had to depart since the tide was "rapidly coming in".
On a later date I must describe my experience at the Paleolithic archeological site near Hintsi (close to the Udai River). The number of so-called 'archeologists' in London who don't even know of Fedir Kaminsky is nothing short of scandalous 😤
Vyr. My good friend. You are not a selkie you cannot stay when the water comes in. I know you want to but you will drown or I will have to save you and I don't frankly want to do either.
OOHHHHH sopranos like the singers
HBO’s Sopranos: hark at the ducks 🦆 give zero fucks 🦆 in Tony’s pool 🦆 pasta fazool 🍝
altos: bada biNg 🔫 bada boOm 🔫 bada biNg 🔫 bada boOm 🔫
Few facts that need correcting here. “Carol of the Bells” is a newer arrangement of an ancient Ukranian folk melody called Shchedryk [wikipedia]. The alto line actually does sound quite haunting if you sing it with the Ukranian lyrics (which have nothing to do with bells or Christmas) instead of the obnoxious “ding dong” English lyrics that Wilhousky wrote in 1936:
I have begun crocheting a hat for Perseus 😊

Update: Jekyll (who is my boss so I do technically have to comply) has requested that I refrain from filing an 11th complaint, so as to "not become irritating" (his words not mine).
I shall, at least, be able to say I told them so when a carriage slides off the road, crashing into the Comfy Inn killing who knows how many 😌
Sigh
The House has YET AGAIN ignored my letter on the importance of raising the curve on Nell Street by 3° before winter, or the carriages run the risk of sliding into the inn on the outside of the curve.
No matter how simply I explain the science behind it, they choose to toy recklessly with citizens' lives 🙄
Nothing to do but fill out more paperwork and file yet another complaint with the officials who ought to care more about infrastructure.
