@Hotwifehotlifepolynights where y'all at in Iowa?
30 years ago US forces were the spearhead of a larger UN mission to intercede into the hell that was - and still is - Somalia.
United States Marines partipated in the first live televised offensive invasion of a hostile land in history. Live on our tv's courtesy of CNN, NBC and others they're cameras and commentators focused on Marine helicopters flying in and Marines combat offloading into defensive positions around the CH-46 Sea Knight and CH-53 Sea Stallion when they briefly landed. Once the birds were back airborne the Marines moved out to they're assigned objectives to secure the airport and seaport in Mogadishu.
These were followed by AAV and hovercraft bring troops and equipment from ship to shore to support this landing and invasion in the name of a humanitarian mission.
It was surreal watching this on TV knowing that I was days away from deploying to join them. Watching these Marines do what we're trained to do in real life action.
