Side projects
I wrote a blog post to go with the launch of my new side project, Winners & Losers.
I'm launching a new side project this week. Go on, why not have a look. http://www.winnersandlosers.net/
New projects on my website!
Over the last 2 weeks I’ve been counting down my top ten favourite magazines covers of 2015. And here they are. Issue 2 of Avaunt took the top spot, I think it’s a fantastic cover.
#1 - Avaunt Magazine, Issue 2
Here it is! My favourite magazine cover of 2015. Avaunt’s first and second issues were both visually brilliant, but I think I slightly prefer the second cover’s simple, beautiful image. The clean yet rough style of the logo and titles look great too. Well done Avaunt, top stuff.
The penultimate day of my countdown! Earlier I revealed Boat Magazine’s Tel Aviv issue as my 2nd favourite cover of 2015.
#2 - Boat Magazine, Issue 10 Tel Aviv
Runner-up in my top ten. Boat magazine always looks superb, but I particularly love this cover because of beautiful strong colours and the way the photo fades to black with the logo and the info cut out in white. The stock for this cover is also lovely if you can get your hands on a copy.
Earlier I revealed Rapha’s Mondial as my 3rd favourite magazine cover of 2015. Tomorrow it’s number 2. Check back to see if you agree.
#3 - Mondial, Issue 1
As well as being on of my favourite covers of the year, this is probably the magazine I was most excited about this year, as I think Rapha’s branding and marketing is second to none. This 2-colour, text-filled cover stands out amongst a whole range of cycling magazines with photos on the front. The typeface is great, the colour is perfect for cycling and the extra gloss on the letters make it a beautiful cover and beautiful magazine.
Only 3 to go. Today I revealed The Gourmand as my 4th favourite magazine cover of the year. Only 3 covers left, any ideas what they might be...
#4 - The Gourmand, Issue 6
I love this fun creative twist on food photography, optimising the style and content of the brilliant Gourmand, which recently won Stack Magazines Magazine of the Year award.
Top 5! This week I’m continuing the countdown of my 10 favourite magazine covers of 2015, today was number 5 and Zeit Magazin’s series of 4 covers for the August issue.
#5 - Zeit Magazin, August 2015
Another brilliantly simple cover (or set of covers). These bold illustrations are witty, fun and visually arresting. They kick off the top 5.
Half-way.
This week I’ve counted down from 10 to 6 in my top 10 favourite magazine covers of 2015, Port magazine was that 6th today.
From Monday, the top 5.
#6 - Port Magazine, Issue 17 - The Wolfpack
This is one of another split cover issue at number 6 from Port, I love the pure simplicity of this cover with the powerful black on white image and the issue title over the top in matt black. Ace.
Number 7 today was the fantastic split covers of Printed Pages SS15 issue.
There are still 6 more to go, don’t go anywhere.
This morning this cover of Esquire featuring Mark Ronson was the next cover revealed in my countdown of top magazine covers this year.
Stay tuned for the rest.
