“to be able to say that I have some kind of relationship with him that I can talk to him or train with him who could tell me then that I’d be able to talk to or train with my idol”
You fulfil a kind of mentor role for younger drivers on the grid. How does that come about?
“It happens very spontaneously and naturally. Look, if I'm asked something and I really like that person, I don't mind explaining certain things or saying how I look at it. With someone like Gabriel Bortoleto, I get along really well. He's just a really nice guy with a good character. You don't encounter that very often. Other young drivers regularly ask me things too. That's how we interact. It mainly has to do with the fact that we enjoy racing and we don't pretend to be anything else than we are.”
Where does that mentor role end? You won't be helping Lando Norris any more, I assume.
"He is of course no longer a rookie. But if you're talking about the new guys: at some point that will of course change too. They'll be more experienced, form their own opinions and in the end they have to do it themselves. That makes sense. That's the way it always goes and how it should be."
With your experience as driver, your mentor role with other drivers and your involvement in Verstappen.com Racing, you actually have the ideal profile of a team principal.
"Haha, but I won't be one in F1. I don't want that, I really don't. When you're team principal of an F1 team you'd have to live in England or Italy, I don't feel like doing that. It's true these are practical objections but I think then that role is too big, far too big. It's not what I enjoy or aspire to. When you've driven F1 for years and you decide to quit, you're done with it for a while, I imagine. I want to do other things then. Still racing, but on a smaller scale and in my own way.
Does anyone have that clip of max saying that he won't win anymore races this season after Hungary?? Please please share it if you have it 😭
Do you think he (Lando) has won the championship? Because he gets a lot of criticism for his mistakes and all that. He won fewer races than Max, but is he a deserving champion?
Fernando: Yes, I think so, in the end the one who wins– it's difficult. What's clear is that McLaren has had the best car, that's why they won the constructors' championship several races ago so, when you have the best car, the driver has to wait until the last race, there's always this debate, right? That he should have won by a bigger margin, like Max did in the last few races, but well, we know Max is a driver with superior talent and the others, well, they are very good drivers.
max about what GP means to him:
''it's been an emotional year. i don't want to go into detail but it's been tough but i'm very happy to be able to work with someone that passionate. of course he's my race engineer but i see him as my friend. we've lived through so many emotional things together and fantastic achievements.. yeah. i'm sure he was a bit emotional after the flag. so i'm excited to leave here and catch up with him, because it hasn't been easy at times for him.
i'm just very proud to be able to work with someone that good as well, also a proper example of someone that never gave up this season through the difficult times.''
we are all gp today 💔

Stand up Marco 😭
no but WHAT happened post retirement to make them so divorced now??
okay i think this is about this post thats been getting notes and obviously misano 2019 being THE NEXT RACE for them didnt help matters but in my opinion the reason theyre so nasty NOW in contrast to their kind of. baseline hot and cold pre 2020 is in my opinion deadass marc’s documentary + move to ducati. full stop lmao
like valentino retires in 2021. marc probably decides right around that time to make this documentary and they start filming a few months later in winter 2022. obvs the arm surgery becomes the central storyline as they go and its apparent marc needs surgery, but the documentary was i think also broadly supposed to be about him trying to mount a comeback for the 2022 (and as it turns into, 2023) season and have marc #speakhistruth about some of the events of his career, mainly his controversies with his rivals (dani, jorge, and vale are all given similar segments). but again its right after vale retires. and its the first time he really goes on record about how bad sepang pissed him off, the first time he ADMITS to basically not trying that hard at valencia 2015 to pass jorge (its obvious that he did this but SO crazy that he admitted it. girl vale saw that and now its TURBO confirmation bias about you being pro-jorge for the other races), and it also features a segment where he brings up "beating" vale at the ranch visit (he lost that race btw) and basically was like wow vale did this to me because he was insecure and needed a scapegoat for his failing title charge (which. correct. lmao). and he got dani and jorge to AGREE with him on camera. THEN he went on an insane press tour for this comeback which featured THIS laundry list of crazygirl quotes and released a book where he said vale is nothing to him and he doesnt want to reconcile. and then to top it all off he released the documentary on their birthday and later went and signed a contract that would land him a championship winning bike (vale KNEW.) that october. like shit dog i'd book a honestly kind of sad and angry podcast interview to get my #feelings out there too if the other guy had done nothing but ice me out (and in vale's estimation: fake suck up to me) about this for 8 years and then he planned a media blitz out from basically the nanosecond i retired lmao. and now its in the press even more explicitly than before and its never really gone back to its previous low simmer !
Marco liked this post guys, I'll take my marcmarc crumbs thank you
i cannot imagine what it must mean to their family to stand up there, crowds chanting their name, after all they’ve been through…
