Final
For my final I drew inspiration from the impressionism movement and the abstract expressionism movement. I started this piece with oil paints using thick brush strokes in an impasto style. I then splattered and dripped paint on the canvas similar to the works of Jackson Pollock.
For this weeks assignment I used foil from leftovers and old popcorn bag and can caps for earrings (his ears weren’t pierced). The foil was used to make bangles and half the necklace with the popcorn bag and my friend ben is the one wearing the accessories.
Great job Jalen I think that your pieces here are very industrial looking, I love how they all follow a similar vibe!

For this weeks assignment I used a Poland Spring Can and an old pizza box to make Lenny. Lenny is a happy puppet who loves to dance to the song What You Know.
Surrealism
For this assignment I used an old hat that broke a few years ago. The adjustment band broke so I decided to use an old carabiner and sew it onto the hat so now it is permanently my size. I also get to use my hat again too so that's a plus.

I chose to dive into the new technology of exoskeletons! Exoskeletons are an old idea that are just now being made posible by the help of new technology enhancements. Exoskeletons are helping people with mobility disabilities regain some of their mobility. Exoskeletons also are being used by workers to assist in lifting heavy objects.
For my homework I chose to draw my friend, Ben, using pastels and I chose to go with a monochromatic color scheme to draw him. I went with blue because when I’m with him the environment is calm and chill. We have late night talks and listen to music while vibing. When we aren’t on campus we like to participate in a little “gardening” hence why i Incorporated the smoking fog coming from his arm just to add a twist.
I wanted to repost Jalen's piece! I Really enjoyed how this turned out it is a very fun take on Ben!
Cubism
For this project I used oil pastels to make a portrait of my girlfriend, Riley! I used pink and reds to symbolize her compassion, she is always so caring to anyone she meets and I wanted to show that in the portrait. I included a lot of greens as well, this is her favorite color and I always find green to a be a very comforting color, very fitting for her :)
I chose this picture of David Beckham, I remember thinking it was such a cool photo when it was first released in 2011. I have always been a Beckham fan and this is one of his most famous photos. it depicts his intense form that he uses when he kicks free kicks.
I remembered a ad campaign for Calvin Klein awhile ago that caused a lot of controversy. Justin Bieber was criticized for the about of editing that was used on his photos for these ads.
You can clearly see that his muscles were enlarged, it seems like his head was made smaller as well. I think that the use of these kind of these editing tools creates an unrealistic expectation on the everyday person in terms of what is considered the social norm for beauty and attractiveness.
I think it's important to point out that this decision may have not been the celebrities decision. It is obvious that the company altered the photo to make it more marketable. This has to be hard for celebrities. They are being depicted as something other than they are, basically being told that what they are isn't enough.
I drew inspiration from Hana's piece in terms of her amazing use of color. The orange contrasts so well with the dark purple and black. I used this color scheme as my background. I really enjoyed AJ's side profile that he used for his piece and wanted to follow that in my own work. I think the strong imagery of AJ's piece combined with the use of color in Hana's worked very well together.
Assignment #1 - "All Great Artists Steal"
I've always loved the album cover with TheWeekend. The cover itself, with the reds and blues, sets the mood perfectly because it's meant to be dramatic and deep. I wanted to make a huge change on the album and I switched the main character for Ayrton Senna who was the original "starboy" of the Formula 1 peak era. I also wanted to add a little bit of myself by changing the red into a blue color and adding different stickers that I had from the past. I used a scissor to cut different tones of blue and pasted it into the album cover background.
Attendance: In terms of the album, the song Die For You from Starboy has always stood out to me. Die For You hits deep for me. I feel that it is very original, emotional, and full of longing. The Starboy album cover reflects that perfectly with its moody reds and blues, setting the tone before you even press play.
I chose to reblog your piece, Andres, because I see the connection to the album cover, but you have made it entirely your own. I love how you boldly took over the entire page. There is a nice balance between organic and clean moments in your work. The organic moments include the roughly cut blue pieces of paper in the background that add texture, while the clean moments showcase your impressive cutting skills. I particularly enjoy the mini-world that exists within the helmet, which features texts and images floating above the main subject. This is a fantastic piece, and you should be proud of your work!

For this weeks assignment I created a pice inspired by the album old data in a new machine. I experimented with the color red and using a dark background so the red pops. I chose to go slightly more abstract with this and I used magazine cut outs, colored pencil, and black paper. The album is very noisy and upbeat, and I wanted to create the same effect in my artwork.
You did a great job with this piece you matched the aesthetic of the Vein.fm album very well!!
Fashion Design
For my background, I used water colors. I attempted to make a blue and orange color scheme but the orange is more red than I meant for it to be. I went for a more modern look, I feel like it ended up looking like some of Travis Scott's stage costumes...
Viewing Art
I chose the album Fields by Junip. I have always loved the music on this album but I have been just as intrigued by the album cover. The art is very geometric so I used sharpies to draw some of the angular areas of this cover. I found a lot of cool images in an old Thrasher magazine to add the divine aspect of this piece.
