nick-hagan:
âOh, weird, you think theyâd update their system after two years,â Nick replied, scratching his head, âWell, youâve been much more helpful than this thing was. Have you tried the new place yet?â
âI know, right?â Maya shrugged. âMaybe itâs the ghost of Google Maps, I donât know.â Grinning, she ran a hand through her hair. âIâve been there a couple of times, itâs decent. Well, the best you find around, anyway. And Iâm not only saying that because itâs the only one around.â
nick-hagan:
âYeah, Iâm probably way too reliant on it already. Iâm gonna fall victim to some black mirror shit probably,â he joked, then shrugged, âI was headed to meet someone for dinner. Some new restaurant? Sushi?â
âRight,â Maya chuckled. âI see what the issue is. See, about a year or two ago, this used to be a sushi place. I guess itâs gotten them confused or something,â she shrugged. âThe other one is actually around the corner.â
Mayaâs tattoos
nick-hagan:
âAh.. this is definitely not where I was trying to go,â Nick said, hesitantly stepping inside the store and looking around, âPiece of shit mustâve led me to the wrong place,â he said, holding up his (definitely not a piece of shit) iPhone X. He had only been in a tattoo parlor once before, the time he got the one and only tattoo of his, his fraternity letters on his ankle.Â
Maya watched the person who just entered her shop. âTechnology, man. Never rely on it fully,â she pointed out, standing up from the chair she was sitting in. âWhere were you headed?â
roryshart:
âWhat, you donât remember the key moments of your life in vivid detail?â He quirked an eyebrow, his tone teasing. Maybe he just remembered things a little too clearly. His memories were important to him, maybe that had something of an affect on him. âHomeless?â He looked her up and down, letting a silence weigh heavy between them. âI hope thatâs true. Iâm sure youâve got plenty of interesting stories, in that case. Iâm voting true and hoping Iâm right just to bother you with questions about it.â
âI guess I do, I just donât consider my first kiss to be a key moment in my life,â she shrugged, still amused by the image of it all. When he eyed her in order to figure out the legitimacy of her âconfessionâ, Maya raised her eyebrow challengingly. âWell, itâs a lie. Or, like, half a lie. I was homeless, just not in L.A.,â she grinned. âDoes that count as cheating?â
stvvlla:
âJust trying to be nice and hold the door that slow-ass person coming walking in from the parking lot.â But because Stella was a bit of (or, a complete) smartass, she let the door close just as the person got about three feet away. Hey, thatâs what the lady said, right? âYou do piercings here, too, or just tattoos?â
Maya grinned as the woman closed the door on the other person. âYeah, I do,â she nodded, wiping her hands on her sides as she walked towards the other woman while checking the disgruntled person entering after her, clearly here to just browse the design wall. âWhere do you want it?â
haydenfawkes:
âYes, but coming here in person means I get to watch them show it to me, and itâs not that hard to spot a liar. Online you could be anyone, but now that Iâm here in personâŚâ Hayden trailed off to look back at Maya and give her a once over. âI believe you drew that.â Humming a bit, she finally moved over to sit down in a chair, clearly just making herself at home. âTalking like an artist too, a few more points for you, babe.â After a moment of looking the other girl over one more time, Hayden brushed her hair to the side, exposing her left ear as she pressed a finger behind her ear. âIâm not looking for anything too extreme since I donât fully know if I trust you yet, but I found a thread of pictures all about ear tattoos and they were the cutest things. A little snake curling up back there is exactly what Iâm looking for. Something simple and small. But if I like it and you? You might see a lot more of me.â
âThanks, babe,â she replied, clearly expressing her disapproval of that petname. âAlright, letâs see...â Maya sat in her chair by the table, opposite to the girl. Opening yet another binder of pictures and templates, she found a page that was covered with templates of snake tattoos of various styles and sizes. âAnything on here striking your fancy? Or I can draw you some fresh ones, if you want,â she offered, pushing the binder to Hayden.
roryshart:
âIt was my first kiss, silly. Itâs a truth. Drink up,â he said with a vague gesture. It was an actual truth, too. Rory had a strong distaste of anyone being near him for quite some time in his elementary school years, but as he fell out of it in middle school, he finally kissed a girl. âShe kissed me between Science and English class, at my locker after I told her that she had the prettiest eyes of anyone in our grade. It was very adorable⌠then we stopped talking a week later when I realized Eric actually had the prettiest eyes,â he assured her with a proud grin. âYour turn.â
âAw, damn, man!â Maya groaned before taking a sip of her beer. âWho remembers so much detail?â Laughing, she shook her head. âOkay, okay. Hmm...â Biting on her lower lip, she thought of what to say next. âAlright. I was homeless in L.A. for a while.â With a smirk, she watched her opponent, playing with the beer bottle in her hand as she waited for his answer.
haydenfawkes:
âOh donât get your panties in a twist, Iâm just saying I want to be sure itâs a good place before I let you at me with your needles. Can you fault me for that?â Hayden hummed, a but though found herself raising an eyebrow. âYou do know anyone can put up anything they want on the internet, donât you? Maybe I just wanted to get a look at you in person. So far things are looking good for you, a clean place and a pretty girl doing work on me? I donât see a reason to complain yet.â Continuing to look around, Hayden turned to examine the certificates, perking up. âOh, there they are. Fantastic.â She moved over to examine the designs on the wall, a little bounce in her step. âSo⌠what is your specialty? What do you think you do the best? Indulge me, Iâm curious.â
Maya laughed, shaking her head. She liked the girl. âIf I was stupid enough to steal othersâ artwork to put on the website, what makes you think I wouldnât just print it out and present it as my portfolio, too?â she said with a smirk. âIâm so glad to hear Iâm passing your little test.â She was amusing, Maya had to give her that. As the woman walked over to the sample wall, the artist shoved her hands in the back pockets of her jeans, shrugging. âI like to do really detailed work,â she said. âDotwork I really enjoy, or thin lines. But I can do pretty much anything. Iâve been to plenty of places where there was no other tattoo artist in the town, so you have to learn to adapt.â She grinned. âIf thatâs something I havenât done before, I usually take more time to get the style in hand before I whip up the actual stencil.â
bombadonna:
So, Donna always heard that change was the first thing people looked for after a big break up. A dramatic haircut or something similar that made them feel like a new person, and it seemed to be how Donna found herself inside of the tattoo parlor. She got last minute jitters, but the other womanâs voice had her finally stepping inside, looking at her and innocently holding her hands up in defense. âSorry,â she rushed out, rubbing her forearms as she glanced around the place. âIâm⌠not sure what Iâm after. Should I come back when I have an idea? I was hoping you could help me, since itâs my⌠first time.â
Maya took a better look at the girl who was now inside her shop. âFirst time doesnât have to always be scary,â she joked, instinctively wiping her hands on her sides before extending one to her. âIâm Maya, letâs see what we can do for you, eh?â She had done many peopleâs first tattoos and while some of her customers were completely relaxed and had their mind set on something specific, others - and most of them, actually - came off as nervous and unsure even. In those cases she tried her best to help them out.  âWhat brings you here, first and foremost? If I know a bit more about your motivations, I can help you better.â
haydenfawkes:
âI donât know, havenât made up my mind about that yet,â Hayden said, ignoring the obvious pointed remark that she should close the door and instead continuing to stand there as she looked over the shop. âI guess itâs too much to ask for the best quality in a town like this,â she finally just said to herself as she stepped inside, humming a little bit. âI donât suppose you have samples of your work you could show me? Or your credentials. Iâd like to see those too.â
Maya rolled her eyes, wiping her hands on her jeans before walking to her desk. âYou know, itâs not clever to insult someone who might potentially be doing some permanent work on your body,â she pointed out, dropping a thick binder on the table. âI donât suppose you know how the internet works,â she mocked the girlâs tone with a grin, âso if you havenât seen my website, hereâs some of the work Iâve done. Thereâs some basic designs on the posters on the wall over there, if you need some inspiration and as for the credentials -â Maya was pointing around the shop as she spoke. âHealth and safety certificates, art certificates and my license all hang above the door, if itâs not too much to ask to turn around.â
roryshart:
âOh, yeah? Well, Iâm not. Mightâve dug myself into a hole here, but Iâm confident that itâs worth it no matter what,â he said with a wave of his hand. âOh⌠is that your first lie? You secretly actually really love me calling you darling?â He smirked as he sat up a bit more, trying to think of his first lie or truth. He hummed thoughtfully. âI had my first kiss in seventh grade. Her name was Kitty. What an odd name, right? Not only that⌠she loved dogs. What kind of name betrayal is that?â
âHmm...â Maya glanced at her companion, briefly at first but then more carefully. âThatâs an awfully specific memory about someone who you just kissed in seventh grade. I say... You lie.â Leaning back in her chair, Maya stared at the man quizzingly, expecting a confirmation of her guess.
âAre you in or out? Either way, just close the door, itâs damn near freezing out there.â Maya called at the person who opened the door to her shop a moment earlier and now was standing in it, perhaps hesitating. Or maybe they were just trying to get on her nerves. âThe last thing I need is to catch a cold. So? Whatâre you after?â
âLetâs play a game.â Roryâs voice was already a little slurred as he leaned closer to them, his eyes sparkling with the same light amusement as always. He was always a little too happy in bars. Maybe a concerning amount, if he really thought about it, but, of course, he wasnât going to. âWe have to say something random about ourselves, true or false, and the other has to guess what it is. Say⌠you say you have a brother, I say false, but you do, right? I have to drink, anâ then the first person to make the other person drink five times wins. The loser has to buy the winner another drink. What do you say, darling?â
Maya hesitated for a moment, taking a sip of her half finished beer. âYou know what? Iâm gonna take you up on that. But I gotta warn you, they say Iâm a great liar,â she said with a grin, tilting her head to a side. âOne thing to get out of the way first, though - donât call me darling.â Raising an eyebrow in challenge, she motioned to the bartender to order another beer.
Some basics & headcanons
Maya comes from a family of a wealthy businessman. She has two younger siblings - brother and sister. Because their parents were away a lot, the three were mostly raised by a nanny and Maya often looked after her siblings.
When Maya was 14, her mother was killed in a car accident when her father was driving while drunk. The already strained relationship with her father practically collapsed and escalated in Maya running away from home at the age of 16.
She spent some time on the road (some tougher than other), sleeping on various peopleâs couches until she got to New York eventually, where she befriended a young apprentice in a tattoo parlour. Thanks to him she discovered that her drawing skills could be used to create body art.
From there, her life escalated fast. She learned from some of the best tattoo artists around and soon began working in her friendâs shop. She got steady clientele and many great recommendations. Not everyone could stand her occasional cockiness, but those who didnât mind (or even found it likable) never regretted sticking around.
She can be super messy with her own stuff, but her parlour is always clean and ready for the next customer.
Maya doesnât like to talk about herself or her past, some would even call her secretive. It takes a lot for her to open up to others.Â
She often acts annoyed with her friends, but once she lets someone get close, she never betrays them.
She doesnât do portrait tattoos. Not that she couldnât, she just doesnât like them. She generally doesnât do what she doesnât like.
Hi everybody! Iâm Antrey and Iâm super excited to be here. Iâll be posting some basic info about Maya in just a minute, and I would love to plot with all of you! Hit me up!
