On the Roof ||Theo and Maya
@mayawolford
Theo was not a builder. He wasn’t a designer or an artist or a handyman by any stretch of the imagination… Yet, somehow he had volunteered himself into helping hang lights at the Wolford house. On his day off, he threw on some jeans and flannel, tucked his first aid kit into his backpack, and took off on his bike to the house. He may not have been an expert at anything, but he was a people pleaser, so no matter how much his anxiety tried to convince him to stay home, he didn’t listen.
When he arrived at the house, he found boxes of tangled lights already outside, as well as a ladder propped against the side of the house. He took off his helmet and scratched his hands through his hair before approaching. He nudged one of the boxes with the toe of his sneaker. “Maya?” he called out, looking around for any sign of her.
Knowing Theo as much as she did, Maya wasn’t expecting his help with this part of the decoration. He wasn’t tall or was a designer or had any idea of what to do if he had to put the decorations outside, as he told her over texts, but she knew he would help her as much as he could. Even if she was going to be the one on the roof putting everything in place, she knew she could count with his help, even if it was limited to his opinion on whether something was straight or not. Besides, his medical skills would be useful in case she felt or got hurt, but she would try her best to not end up in the ER.
Maya was already stepping out of the farmhouse when she heard him calling her name and walked towards him, careful to not drop the last box she was holding in her arms. “Hey! Over here!” She tried to get his attention. He wasn’t the first person she thought of when she needed someone to help her, but she was glad he said yes. That way, they would have some time to bond while decorating the house.
“So, ready to decorate the roof?“ she asked Theo once she was standing in front of him, setting the box on the floor. “We have so many things to do, but we can do this.“
