Warnings: nightmares, Harry and Lily dying(not really), James being taunted, hurt/comfort, fluffy ending, blaming himself
Word Count: 1,343
Description: After surviving Voldemort, James keeps on having nightmares of Lily and Harry dying. Thankfully, he has his family there to remind him that they are alright.
Taglist: @sylveryfire
He was running up the stairs of their house, without even a wand in his hand, coming to a halt in the doorway upon seeing Lily lying dead on the floor and Harry wailing in his crib. The shadowy figure of Voldemort stood over his baby boy, a green flash of light filling the nursery. He ran, tackling him only to fall through smoke and land on creaky wooden boards. Above him stood one of his best friends, a person he and Lily thought they could trust with their lives. Peter was no longer the fourth member of the marauders.
He was a traitor.
Then there was Snape. James regretted the bullying he had done back in school but he couldnât quite shake the hate in the Slytherinâs eyes. It wouldnât have mattered if he apologized or not.
They stood on either side of Voldemort, laughing. Mocking him for being unable to save his family.
âLook at you. The stag, the noble protector, a failure.â
Snape sneered, âDo you think that she would love you if she could see you now? Absolutely powerless to stop her beloved son from being killed?â
âI was always the odd one out. I wasnât the one everyone loved. Everyone saw you, everyone adored you. I was pushed into your shadow!â Wormtail yelled.
âYou thought you could defy me? A worthless, spineless disgrace of a wizard. You could have joined me and lived.â
He wanted to yell at them to bring his family back. He wanted to believe that Lily would love him and know that he did all that he could. He wanted to tell Peter that he was seen by him and Sirius and Remus. He opened his mouth but no sound came out.
âJames! Wake up!â
He awoke suddenly in a cold sweat, screams ringing in his ears. His heart pounding unevenly in his chest. He sat up, pushing the blankets off of him. He could feel Lilyâs concerned gaze trained on him and he couldnât bear it. If he had only been a few seconds later, if he had forgotten his wand, she would be dead. Harry would be dead. And it wouldâve all been all his fault.
James stumbled into the bathroom, using the counter to hold himself up. The door closed shut behind him, not wanting to reveal the depths of his inner turmoil to the world. When he finally gathered the courage to look at his reflection he was not surprised by the man that was looking out at him with bloodshot eyes and crazy hair. The bags beneath his eyes were permanent at this point.
Lily knocked gently on the door. âJames? Are you okay?âÂ
He had been waking up in the middle of the night for weeks. Usually she didnât wake up in time to see this side of it. By the time she noticed he was gone he was in the nursery with Harry, attempting to reassure himself that his precious baby boy was unharmed.
He hesitated to open the door. He didnât want her to see him like this, broken.
âJames, please.â
Her plea felt like a thousand knives stabbing him in the chest. Splashing his face with water he tried to wipe away any trace of his lack of sleep. It was a pointless effort.
He opened the door, keeping his gaze trained downward, not wanting to look her in the eyes. He didnât think he could bear it to see the pity, the pain in her eyes.
She reached out for him, her fingers brushing his chest as he fell to his knees on the bathroom floor. Lily kneeled down beside him, tentatively wrapping her arms around his shaking frame. He pulled her into him, his arms gripping her close like he was drowning and she was the only thing keeping him afloat. They sat that way, arms around each other for what felt like hours as he tried to stop the tears from pouring out of him. He tried to focus on Lilyâs soothing touch as her hand stroked his back gently, trying to calm him.
He never wanted her to have to see him like this. He had tried to be strong for her, for all three of them. But he was a failure.
âNo youâre not.â Lily said quietly, but firmly, pulling away enough to look him in the eye. âYou saved us. We wouldnât be alive if you hadnât come when you did.â
âBut what if I hadnât?â He asked, tears threatening to fall.
âBut you did. Thatâs all that is important. You did make it on time. You did stop him from killing me and Harry. I donât want you to ever even think about the possibility. It didnât happen. Weâre right here.â She took hold of his hand and slowly brought it to her chest right above her heart. âIâm here.â
James finally looked into her eyes and was astonished by the love and kindness that radiated in her gaze. There was not an ounce of blame or hatred. Just love and care and understanding. He had always known that he was lucky to have her and their son but it was now that he truly realized just how lucky he was to have her by his side.
Maybe he didnât always have to be strong.
Brushing a flyaway hair from her face he leaned in and kissed her. It was short and sweet but it managed to convey just how much he loved and cherished her. She brushed away the tears from his face before hugging him again.
âAre you ready to go back to bed?â
âCan we check on Harry first?â Lily smiled, understanding why he needed to see their son. That he needed to reassure himself that he was okay before returning to bed.
The two of them walked over to the nursery. Their footsteps were quiet as they tried to not wake their Harry. There he lay in his crib, clutching a stuffed animal. A stag. James had gotten it for his birthday along with Sirius who had bought a black dog stuffed animal. He remembered how they had tried to make a game of it to see who Harry loved most. He had instead crawled over Lily.
It hurt to think about how much had been missed out on because of that cursed prophecy. He knew how much Harry missed everyone. Hopefully the war would soon be over and they could return to normal. Normal sounded nice.
Walking over to his sonâs crib he leaned over to brush some of his hair out of the way to kiss his forehead. Harry made a sound, wrinkling his nose, but he didnât wake up. There was nothing he wouldnât do for his son. Lily came up behind him, gently placing her hand on his shoulder blade, rubbing soothingly.
They just stood there for a while, their tiny family all together.
âItâs late, we should go to bed.â Lily whispered.
âGo on, Iâll follow in a few.â
âOkay.â She brushed a quick goodnight kiss against his lips before padding away into their bedroom.
The next morning she awoke to an empty bed. She had a suspicion that it had been empty all night. When she entered the nursery she was proved right. There James lay sleeping right in front of Harryâs crib as if to protect him from any dangers that may come in the night. When Lily approached them he opened his eyes and apologized sheepishly.
âDonât be sorry. Donât ever be sorry for being a good father. Because you are. I know it, Harry knows it. Iâm just relieved that you actually got some sleep for once.â
âMaybe Harry could sleep in our room for the time being?â
âOf course.â
He stood up and hugged her, his entire frame sagging against her from exhaustion. Sensing his parents, Harry made his presence known.
Laughing they turned towards him and James scooped him up, pretending to fly him towards the kitchen where Lily started to make pancakes.

Ginny was excited that her mum met someone new after her dad died, but she did not realize that meant she would have to deal with Harry Potter being her new soon-to-be step-brother.
Written for Reputation Era of SeveralSunlitDaylights and for @takearisk-ao3 who supported me writing this shamelessly
if it makes you feel better, Harry and Ginny aren't step-siblings yet
July was unbearably hot. Unusually hot. And if Ginny were at the Burrow, she would go down to the pond, dip her toes into the water, and even, after assuring that no one was near her, strip off her clothes and take a dip.
But Ginny was not at the Burrow. Instead she was holed up in her brand new bedroom at her mumâs new fianceâs manor.Â
The whole thing was ridiculous.Â
Arthur Weasley died in an unfortunate accident that Ginny did not want to talk about when she was 11 years old. Molly Weasley had grieved for years, until she joined a widow support group where she happened to meet her brand new fiance.
Lily Potter.
Ginny hardly knew her because she was off at Hogwarts while her mum was going on dates with the tall, green-eyed, red-haired witch. And before she knew it, she received an owl from her mum that she was engaged, and they would move into the old Potter Manor instead of the Burrow during the summer.Â
Donât get it wrong, Ginny liked Lily. A lot really. She liked how she joked that this old Pureblood Manor was now owned by a bisexual, muggleborn witch. She liked how she worked so many puns into her conversations. She especially liked how Lily would make her mum smile.
What she didnât love about Lily Potter was her barely of age son who lived in the bedroom next to hers. Who shared a bathroom with her.Â
Harry. James. Potter.
Ugh. Ginny rolled her eyes at the thought of his name.Â
Everything about him annoyed her. The way he insisted on racing her on his brand new Firebolt whenever she was taking a leisurely flight. They way he ruined her favorite Weird Sisters songs by belting them poorly in the shower. The way he stole her olives off her plate at dinner, even if she was not going to eat them in the first place. The way his bright, green eyes caught hers whenever his mum said something cheesy, yet hilarious. And the way his jaw line-
She was getting carried away, but he was infuriating.
Just to drive the point home how infuriating he is, Harry was currently ruining the Weird Sistersâ newesting single, Graveyard Shift, during his way too long of a shower.Â
âWill you shut up?â Ginny yelled at the wall, banging on it to emphasize her point.
Harryâs voice only got louder. âIâm haunted by the way we kissed, stuck working the Graveyard Shift.â
âFucking hell,â Ginny muttered under her breath. She probably would not have enough time to shower before they were supposed to meet her classmates at the Leaky Cauldron, so she cast a quick Scourgify on herself.Â
âDo you not like my voice?â Someone asked. Harry leaned against her bathroom door frame, towel wrapped casually around his waist, his jet-black hair dripping beads of water down his face.Â
Ginny cleared her throat, âIâm surprised the boys at Ilvermorny did not cast a permanent silencing charm on you to get you to shut up.â
âThe boys at Ilvermorny didnât have as big of a reaction to me as you do,â Harry said, smirking at her. âAnd I like getting a reaction out of you.â Harry shook his head, cascading water droplets all over her to emphasize his point.
âStop-â
Her bedroom door sprung open with a thud.Â
âHey Ginny! Do you happen to have any spare perfume? I forgot to spray myself before leaving home and Ron said you might have some. Oh, hello!â Lavender Brown said all in one breath. Her eyes darted between Ginny and Harry who at least had the audacity to look somewhat embarrassed meeting someone in just a towel.
Ginny went over to her nightstand and directly handed Lavender her floral perfume, not trusting her to catch anything if she threw it at her.
âThanks, Ginny!â Lavender said, spraying an obscene amount of perfume on herself. âSorry for interrupting,â she said with a wink before closing the door behind her.
Ginny took a moment to stare up at the ceiling before braving to turn back to the half naked man standing in her bedroom. âSorry about her.â
âRonâs girlfriend, I assume?â Harry asked.
âYes,â Ginny replied. âShe is not too bad if you get to know her. She has calmed down a lot since when they first started dating. Mainly because she finally realized that Ronâs best friend, Hermione, was not actually trying to sleep with her man.â
Harry carted his fingers through his wet hair, âActually, that is why I am in here. I was hoping you could help introduce me to everyone tonight. I really only know Ron, because of the whole soon-to-be-step-brother thing, and just a few of the other guys who are in the Auror training program with us.âÂ
âSo you want me to babysit you all night long?â Ginny asked.
Harry let out a small laugh, âIâm older than you, shouldnât I be the one babysitting you?â
Ginny rolled her eyes. âGo get dressed, Potter. Iâll meet you downstairs.â
In the kitchen, her mum and Lily were standing at the stove together, swaying to an old Celestina Warbeck song. The sweet sight was ruined by Ron and Lavender snogging around the corner. Ginny grabbed a dishrag off of the counter and threw it at Ron, hitting him square in the back of the head.Â
âDo you two ever not do that?â Ginny asked.Â
Ron ignored her, giving her the middle finger as he continued to suck on his girlfriendâs face.Â
Harry bounded down the steps a few seconds later, âRon, mate, you got to let the girl breathe.â
Ron detached himself from Lavenderâs face with a gross squelch sound, âFuck, man, not you too.â
âWhat can I say, Ginny is a bad influence,â Harry smiled over at her.Â
Ginny rolled her eyes. âLetâs go. We are already late.âÂ
âHave fun tonight, everyone!â Lily Potterâs voice called from the kitchen.Â
âAnd please send us a patronus if you need any help. I donât want to have to pick anyone up from the Auror holding cell tonight,â Mum added.Â
âBut if you do, make sure it was because you did something funny!â Lily called back. Molly let out a shock gasp before breaking into a fit of giggles at her fianceâs joke.
Harry caught her eye and grinned.Â
âEw.â Ron said, âLetâs go before they flirt even more.â
The Leaky Cauldron was packed by the time they all arrived. The majority of Ronâs class was here and a good chunk of her class was present as well.Â
âHermione says she has a table in the back!â Lavender shouted over the music, grabbing Ronâs hand and dragging him behind her. Ginny followed closely behind, Harry kept a hand pressed into her back to not get washed away with the crowd. Â
Ginny saw Luna first, although she was hard to miss, standing on top of a stool waving both hands at the four of them pushing their way through the crowd. Hermione sat next to her, hands gripping onto Lunaâs legs preventing her from toppling over.
âLuna, please be careful,â Hermione begged, pulling her girlfriend carefully down.Â
Luna ran around the table and crashed into Ginny, giving her a bone crushing hug. âSo good to see you!â Luna shouted. She turned and immediately crushed Harry in a hug.Â
âOh, erm, Hi.â Harry stuttered.
Ginny laughed at Harryâs obvious discomfort. âThis is Luna. My best friend, and Hermioneâs girlfriend.â
Luna let go of Harry, she gave him a curious look before announcing, âYour head is full of nargles.â Luna turned to give Lavender and Ron their hugs.
Harry turned to Ginny, facing away from the strange blonde, âWhatâs a nargle?â
âDonât ask,â Ginny replied, shaking her head at her friendâs creatures.
Hermione reached across the table to shake Harryâs hand, âIâm Hermione. Ron and Ginny have told me so much about you.â
Harry wrapped an arm around Ginnyâs shoulder, pulling her flush against his body. âAll nice things from Ginny, Iâm sure.âÂ
Ginny elbowed Harry, pulling away from his warmth and ignoring the swoop in her gut. âI donât know what she is talking about, I do not talk about you.â
âWhatever you say,â Harry teased, rubbing the spot that Ginnyâs elbow hit.Â
Hermione ignored both of them and continued on, âI heard you went to Ilvermorny, tell me all about it!â
The six of them discussed their life at school, and the differences between Hogwarts and the American school. Begrudgingly, Ginny admitted to herself how well Harry fit into the group.
âQuidditch at Ilvermorny is obviously more intense because we donât just compete against the house teams, we also compete against the other American schools in the National Championship,â Harry stated smugly, taking a long drink of his butterbeer.Â
âThat is not true!â Ginny cried, smacking her hand on the table, sloshing her own drink in the process. âIlvermorny Central only has two house teams that compete against each other so automatically you have a 50% chance of making the championship! Hogwarts you at least compete against three teams. And it doesnât matter if you win or lose, it matters how much you win or lose by to claim the Quidditch cup!â
Harry set his mug down, a grin dancing across his face, âSo if the points are the only thing that matters, then the seeker must be the most important player on the pitch. Right?â
Ginny threw up her hands in frustration, âWe are not having this argument again. I, alone, have scored more than 150 points in a game.â
Ron downed his drink in a gulp, âWell, I am going to go to the bathroom.â He stood abruptly, shifting his pants.Â
Ginny took a deep breath and counted down from ten in her brain.Â
10, 9, 8, 7, 6
Harryâs knees nudged her under the table.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1
âI need to go to the bathroom too!â Lavender announced to the table, scurrying off after her boyfriend.
âSubtle!â Hermione called after her.
âNothing was subtle about that. Did you see all of the nargles swarming around both of their heads? They almost had as many nargles floating around their heads as Harry and Ginny do,â Luna said in a sing-song voice.
âLuna!â Hermione cried, âYou canât use your mythical creatures to call out people like that!â
Luna swirled her Gillywater in her glass, âI am not calling anything out. I am just making careful observations that most witches and wizards would rather ignore,â she replied matter-of-factly.
âDo they always fight like this?â Harry asked, lips inches away from her ear.Â
Ginny turned in her stool so her back was faced to Hermione and Luna, her knees pressed into Harryâs. She leaned forward so she was facing Harry head on. Nose inches from his nose. âThis isnât fighting for them. Itâs foreplay,â Ginny said.Â
They both turned back to the couple. One of Hermioneâs hands was flying throughout the air as she was explaining the unlikely ability that Nargles existed in London during the summertime, while her other hand was creeping slowly up Lunaâs thigh. Luna for her part just stared dreamingly at Hermione.
âI think we should continue this debate at home, Mione,â Luna said.
Hermioneâs cheeks turned pink, âWe probably should. See you two later. Say bye to Won-Won and Lav-Lav for us!â Hermione said, tugging Luna towards the door.
âSubtle!â Ginny called after them.
âHey,â Harry said, knees pressed up against hers again, âSorry for insinuating that Iâm better at Quidditch than you.â
Ginny reached forward and grabbed Harryâs hand on the table, âThank you,â she said dramatically, âbecause we both know I am better than you.â
She expected Harry to throw his head back and laugh at her, but he kept her gaze, eyes sparkling at her. His thumb tracing circles on the back of her hand. Ginny felt cornish pixies flutter in her stomach.
âI need a drink,â She said, standing immediately, making her way to the bar.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Her brain chanted at her. He is going to be your step brother in a month! She scolded herself.
But you arenât related. Another part of her brain said. And there are many purebloods out their who have performed worse acts of incest than crushing on a soon-to-be stepsibling.Â
âYou look thirsty. Can I buy you a drink?â A voice said, breaking her out of her internal battle. A man with sandy hair, brown eyes, not too much taller than her leaned ever so casually against the bar.Â
Ginny smiled at the stranger, âYes, please.â He was a distraction. A perfect distraction from jet black hair, green eyes, and a toned abdomen that looked so brilliant in just a towel.Â
âIâm Jacob,â the man said, passing her a glass full of some smokey pink drink.
âGinny.â
âWell, Ginny,â Jacob said, smiling at her, âCheers!â
Ginny clinked her glass with Jacobâs and took a sip. Warmth of the drink flooded her senses. Her insides ignited, and when she looked back up at Jacob he was haloed in a warm glow.Â
He was more than the perfect distraction. Jacob was perfect.
She slowly brought her glass to her lips again to take another sip, but it was knocked out of her hands before she got the chance.
Harry stood next to her, eyes murderous. He was not looking at her, but rather he was glaring at Jacob.Â
âHey what the fuck, man!â Jacob cried out. His voice sounded so regal. Ginny swooned at the sound.Â
Harry turned back to her, âDid you drink what he gave you?â He asked, voiced terrified.
âYes,â She said, pushing past Harry, stepping closer to Jacob and his warmth. âJacob is so sweet, and bought me a drink. So I drank it! He is so perfect.â
Harry stepped between her and Jacob, his back pressed against her. He lowered his head to look Jacob directly in the eye, âYou better fuck off right now, and if you ever touch her again, it will be the last thing you ever do,â Harry said in a low voice.
Jacob got the hint and scurried off. Ginny tried to follow after him, but Harry grabbed her arm, pulling her close to his chest, âYouâre coming with me.â
Ginny pulled her arm free from Harryâs grasp, âBut I donât want to!â
In one fluid motion, Harry swooped Ginny up and over his shoulder and carried her out of the bar. Her face smacked directly into his arse.Â
âYou. Are. An. Arse!â Ginny shouted, emphasizing each word.
âAn arse that just saved yours,â Harry grunted, shifting Ginnyâs weight.
"I already have six older brothers to be overprotective, I don't need another one!â Ginny shouted, kicking her legs against Harry, trying to break free.Â
"Good thing I don't want you to treat me like a brother,â Harry retorted.
Ginnyâs legs stilled, âWhat do you mean by that?â
âNothing,â Harry replied shortly.
Ginny lifted her head so she wasnât staring at Harryâs backside. Diagon Alley was empty at this time of night, the only lights coming from the Leaky Cauldron and the dim street lamps of Knockturn Alley. The sound of Harryâs footsteps on the cobblestone echoed through the night. Â
Harry stopped, shifting Ginny so he could pull his wand out of his pocket. He tapped his wand in a pattern on the brick, unlocking the door.
âWhy the fuck are we here?â Ginny asked.
âBecause,â Harry grunted, carrying her through the door to Weasleysâ Wizards Wheezes, âThat dickhead gave you a love potion that he likely got from your brothers. Which means, your brothers also likely have the antidote.â
Ginny wriggled, trying to break free from Harryâs grasp. âHe did not give me a love potion! Youâre just jealous because he has perfect sandy hair and warm brown eyes and all you have is night-black hair and stupidly, bright green eyes.âÂ
Suddenly, her world turned upside down as Harry threw her off his shoulder and onto the ground.Â
âStay.âÂ
Harry turned his back to her, heading over to the WonderWitch area of the store, searching for the love potion antidote that she did not need. Slowly, she got to her feet, planning to make a break for it back to Jacob. Her world came crashing back down as she landed face first on the filthy floor.
Her brothers really should mop.
Rope bound tightly around her ankles preventing her from running. She used her arms to pull herself up. Maybe she could hop to Jacob. Rope flew across the room, binding her hands together too.Â
âLet me go!â Ginny shouted at Harry.
âOnly after you drink this,â Harry replied, a tiny vial of liquid in his hands. Loverâs Antidote written in cursive font on the front.Â
Ginny tightly closed her lips, shaking her head no.Â
âGinny, please,â Harry begged.Â
She stuttered for a second, wanting to make Harry happy. Then she remembered that he wanted her to stop trying to go after Jacob and she did not like that. With her bound hands, she tried pushing herself up, but Harry was quicker than she was. He wrestled her down, straddled her hips, keeping her pressed to the ground.
âOpen,â Harry said.
Ginny did, opening her mouth wide for him, tilting her chin and arching her back up. She didnât understand why in this position, with Harryâs weight pressed into her, that she would listen to him. That she would forget about what's-his-name, and her only thoughts being Harry.
With shaking hands, Harry tipped the potion down her throat, and she swallowed. Slowly, her senses cooled, and her wit returned.
âThat fucker love-potioned me.â
Harry choked out a sound, halfway between a sigh of relief and laughter. âGood to have you back, Gin,â Harry said, grinning down at her.Â
Ginny smiled back up at him, shifting her hips underneath him, trying to find some relief under the weight of him. She stilled when she felt something very hard, that could not possibly be his wand, because that was secured firmly in his right hand.Â
Harryâs eyes widened, but he did not move off of her.
Slowly, Ginny rocked her hips up to meet him, daring him to make the next move. Either off of her and pretend this never happened or to thrust back into her. He hesitated a moment, but then Harry placed his arms balanced on either side of her, and rocked back into Ginny.
A shaky breath escaped her lips at the friction.Â
âSo, do you tie up all of the girls you shag?â Ginny asked, big, brown eyes batting up at him.Â
Harryâs hand moved to Ginnyâs tied up hands, pinning them above her head. âOnly the girls that misbehave.â Harry leaned forward, whispering in her ear. âDo you promise to behave, Gin?â Harry asked, thrusting into her again.
âYes,â she breathed out.
âGood girl.â He twirled his wand, wordlessly untying the ropes from her wrists and ankles.
And then his lips crashed to hers. Hands exploring every inch of her body. His weight fully pressed on top of her now.
Her hands were shaking from holding back from him. She finally admitted to herself that she didnât want him like a brother. She wanted him for so much more. And now she couldnât hold back. Her hands were in his hair, and then under his shirt, and then undoing his belt. Needing every part of him.
Harry wasnât careful with her. Leaving bruises along her jawline with his tongue. He found the hem of her shirt and yanked it off of her, uncaring if it ripped coming off. Hands immediately found the clasp of her bra, freeing her.
âMerlin, your tits are even better than I imagined,â Harry groaned, mouth licking down her sternum.Â
Ginny arched herself into him as his tongue circled her nipple. âYou dream about this often?âÂ
Harry came back up so his face was even with hers, âEvery fucking day, Weasley.âÂ
His lips met hers once again. âI think about you when we fly together and the way your arse looks bent over the broom,â His hand grabbed her bum for emphasis. âI think about you in the shower with me, your tits all sudsy with soap,â Harry said, kissing her breasts once again. âI think about you as I lie in my bed awake at night. Wondering how you taste,â he voiced, barely above a whisper.Â
Excruciatingly slow, Harry pulled off her pants. He kissed the inside of her thigh, working his way back up before going over to the other thigh.
âHarry. Please,â Ginny moaned out.
âAnything for you,â Harry said, before diving in.
His tongue worked inside of her, hands tightly holding her hips in place. She felt warmth build as his tongue expertly worked on her clit.Â
âFuck, fuck, fuck, fuck,â She chanted.
A long finger teased her entrance before plunging inside her. She needed him to finish her off, and she was so close to crossing that line. His fingers move quickly, pushing her closer to the edge, one she so desperately wants to be thrown over. He carried her up to the peak and pushed her over with one word.
âCome.âÂ
Suddenly, she was free-falling, tossed right over her edge into a blissful oblivion.
Harry worked his way back up to her, leaving a trail of kisses as he went.Â
âTasted better than I imagined,â he said into her lips.
Ginny pulled him into a crushing kiss. Heat pooling in her gut again. She pulled away, and stared into his green eyes, now dark with lust.Â
âI need you.â
Harry stood to pull off his pants. Ginny crawled over to him, kneeling before his length. She kissed the inside of his thigh before licking the underside of his dick. She stood, meeting Harry in a fierce kiss.Â
He picked her up in a fluid motion, her legs wrapped tightly around his waist. He set her down on the front counter. It was cold on her arse, but she could not care because Harry was teasing her entrance with his penis. Gradually, he entered her, inch by inch, filling her up.Â
âFuck,â Harry cried out.Â
Ginny agreed with her entire being. With every thrust, Ginny saw stars. A galaxy of constellations blurred her vision as she felt herself being pulled closer and closer to the edge again.Â
âFuck, you fuck good,â Ginny moaned. Her heels pulled him impossibly deeper inside her. Her hands wrapped around his strong shoulders and her fingernails leaving scratches down his back.Â
Harry let out a string of curses under his breath. His thrusts picked up speed, and Ginny knew that she would crash in any second. Harryâs fingers found her clit again, and with the increased pressure and deep thrust, she was gone. Exploding like a star, she came hard.
With a few more thrusts, Harry followed her cue.Â
Ginny smiled up at him, âCome here,â she said, pulling Harryâs face to kiss her breathless. Harryâs lips eagerly met hers. With time, the kisses turned more lazy before they finally pulled away.
âYouâre so gorgeous,â Harry said, breathless above her.
Ginny let out an uncharacteristic giggle, âYouâre amazing.â
Harry let out a laugh that made Ginnyâs entire insides curl with pleasure. âHere,â Harry said, offering her shirt back.Â
âJust so you know,â Ginny said, pulling her shirt over her head, âI realized, Iâve been thinking about this almost every day too.â
Harry nearly tripped pulling his pants back on, âReally?â
âReally,â Ginny reassured, sliding off of the counter.Â
âSo what should I call you now? My fuck-buddy? My boyfriend? My brother?â Ginny teased.Â
Harry cringed, âMaybe not that last one.â He spun her around so she was facing him again.
âDefinitely, not the last one,â Ginny said before kissing him again.
Happy Fathers' Day everyone! Written for @jilymicrofics prompt June 18th - enough
Lily had always been pleased with herself for marrying a man who could cook as well as she could, if not better. It meant that she had never had to worry about dinner if she hadn't sorted it out because James would do it without question.
On top of that, when Harry was born James had decided to quit the Aurors to be a stay at home dad, taking on all the household chores including cooking as part of his job. He loved waking up early in the morning to make her a pack lunch for work, adding charmed love notes which would turn into butterflies and flitter around her as soon as she'd finished reading them. Even more than that, he loved cooking with Harry, especially in the mornings when they were both sleep-ruffled and yawning, frying eggs and baking between sips of coffee. Because of their morning routine, they now had an eight year old who could cook a variety of breakfast foods and refused to eat anything as simple as cereal when he woke up.
All of this had cumulated in Lily's current situation: watching Harry mix up his eighth batch of pancake batter at six o'clock on a Sunday morning. It was Fathers' Day, and Harry had been scheming with Lily for weeks to make his father breakfast in bed. Knowing full well that he couldn't use the stove without supervision, he'd woken his mother up at 4.30am to get started. She was now on her third cup of coffee and every counter in their small kitchen was covered in stacks of pancakes. She watched Harry pull out a new plate on which to stack his latest batch and sighed.
"Harry, love, don't you think you've made enough pancakes?"
He looked up at her with wide eyes and pushed his glasses up with finger, smearing pancake batter onto the frames.
"Dad likes a big breakfast," he said. "I don't want to run out too soon."
She chuckled a little as she looked around at the countless pancakes filling their kitchen.
"I don't think that'll be a problem, Haz."
He bit his lip as he took a look around before turning back to the pan and pouring in another round of batter.
"Maybe just a few more," he muttered.
Lily groaned and lay down on the counter. There was no point in arguing with him, she knew from bitter experience. Harry would keep making pancakes until he had decided they had enough, no sooner.
She heard a deep breath of laughter from the doorway and then felt her husband's warmth behind her. He pulled her up gently and pressed a kiss to her forehead and she leaned against him.
"Morning, Evans," he whispered right by her ear.
"That's Potter to you," she muttered back. "Will you please tell your son that we have enough food to feed the whole of Hogwarts so we can be done with the cooking?"
Harry, who had been completely absorbed in flipping pancakes for the last few minutes, finally turned around when he heard his mother's voice.
"Dad!" He pointed the spatula accusingly at James. "You're supposed to be in bed!"
James moved over to ruffle Harry's hair and turn off the stove.
"Sorry, kiddo. Can't help that I'm an early riser," he responded. "But by the looks of it, I woke up just in time for a wonderful breakfast. Why don't you go set the table, and I'll chop up some strawberries to have with our pancakes?"
Harry nodded and headed towards the door, before pausing for a moment and turning back around. He ran directly into his dad, nearly knocking him over as he jumped into his arms for a hug, James just barely catching him.
"Happy Father's Day, Dad," the little boy mumbled.
James squeezed him a little tighter for a moment before he whispered his response.
iâve taken like a very extended break (like probably 7/8 years) from the golden trio era fandom but started wanted to read hinny again, any recs of long fics (aus canon compliment etc idm). is there like an âitâ fic of the hinny fandom ?
Hi! Sorry I took a bit to answer this, I have been inactive for a few weeks and just now decided to pop back on! If you take a look at my ao3 you'll notice I have a bunch of recs in my bookmarks, but I'll also give you as many as I can think of off the top of my head here lol. I don't read that many long fics but I will do my best, and if you want some shorter ones let me know and I'll definitely be able to give you lots of those!

There's also one that I read a very long time ago but now I can't find it, but if I remember correctly it was a pretty popular one so maybe someone else will be able to! I *think* it was called nerve but I have no idea who wrote it. I assume it was about Harry pining in HBP (like pretty much all the recs I just gave you are haha)
Okay guys I finally went through my 200+ bookmarks on ao3 and picked every HBP fic rec I had! Iâll likely do this with other categories (post war, smut, etc.) as well but for now, enjoy:

Ginny Weasley and the Green-Eyed Monster (canon divergence)
Harry always came back from his playdates with Ron Weasley extremely dirty.
Molly had tried to apologize to them about that once. Lily had laughed it off. âBoys will be boys,â sheâd told her sonâs best friendâs mother.
âWeâre sorry about Harry getting Ron into all this trouble,â James had added. âIâm sure heâs the instigator.â
Thus had borne the friendship between the adults as well.
This last one, though, had had her eight-year-old son grumbling like never before. âItâs not going to be just Ron and me this time!â He complained. âHis whole family will be there.â
âSounds like fun to me,â Lily had said, trying to wrangle him into decent clothes rather than the garish monstrosities he liked to wear at home. Jamesâ influence, certainly.
âItâs not,â Harry whined. âFred and George are cool, but Percy is the worst. He doesnât like playing and is all smug about going to Hogwarts and is always lecturing Ron anâ me about getting so dirty!â He sniffed and crossed his arms. âAnd Ginnyâs a girl!â
âWhatâs wrong with that?â She asked amused. âIâm a girl, Iâll have you know.â
Harry waved it off with childish imperious impatience. âYouâre Mummy,â he said importantly, like those things were mutually exclusive. ââS different.â
âOh, is it?â Lily began tickling her son mercilessly. âIâll show you what girls can do!â
Harry began to giggle helplessly, attempting to fend her off. âStop, Mum! Dad! Dad, help!â
It had grown into an all-out tickle and pillow war, with the boys ganging up on her before she trounced them handily.
âDonât underestimate girls, son,â James had groaned at Harry, who nodded miserably in reply.
Theyâd sent him off with hugs and kisses through the Floo, and Molly came in their fireplace to announce his safe arrival.
âHe loves Ron,â James assured her. âAnd heâll get over the others being there. Heâll have fun.â
Lily smiled at him mischievously. âAnd whatever will we do while heâs there?â
They had plenty of fun themselves, and were waiting for Harry to come through three hours later.
He was practically glowing, despite being so incredibly dirty.
âSheâs amazing!â He said, starstruck.
They exchanged a look with raised eyebrows. Their son looked to be in love. âWho is?â
âGinny, of course!â Harry exclaimed, like they were ridiculous for not knowing when he hadnât ever expressed anything like this. âShe played awesome! She was on my team, and we beat everyone!â He beamed.
âWow,â James said enthusiastically. âShe sounds great.â
Harry nodded wildly. âAnd she flies really good, Dad. Better than you, even!â
Lily highly doubted a seven-year-old girl flew better than someone who could have gone professional, but amused at their sonâs gushing, they humoured him. âOh really?â
âIâll have to fly against her, then.â James said, smiling.
âSheâll beat you,â Harry assured them. âSheâs the best. I told Mrs. Weasley that she should always be there to play with us.â
âSo sheâs a better friend to you than Ron?â James asked.
Harry looked conflicted, before his face cleared. Lily couldnât wait to hear his reply. He adored Ron from the bottom of his heart, but it looked like Ginny was his first crush. She couldnât believe her baby was so grown up already.
âNo!â He exclaimed. âRonâs my best friend. Like Uncle Sirius is to you, dad!â
âAnd what is Ginny?â He asked.
âSheâs what Mum is to you!â Harry said, obviously very pleased with himself. Lily and James both choked, in laughter and shock. âIâm gonna marry her someday!â
Lily recovered first. âSure thing, big boy,â she ruffled his hair and he pouted up at her. âBut now you need to go wash and get all that dirt off you.â
He nodded easily â he was an obedient child except for his wild streak â and made his way up the stairs to his room. Lily and James stared at each other.
âHis first crush,â James said, sounding half-pained, half happy.
âApparently, heâs going to marry her one day,â she said, experience the same mixture of emotions. âLetâs not tell him kid crushes donât usually work out.â
âOh, I donât know,â James grinned at her. âMine did.â
âOh, shove off!â Lily grumbled playfully, but she was smiling.
âI was eleven years old when I got my first crush, and I did end up marrying her.â James continued. âWhoâs to say Harry wonât?â
âWhoâs to say indeed,â Lily laughed, kissing her husband.
Harry and Ginnyâs story would certainly prove to be interesting.
Lily couldnât wait to see that and the rest of her sonâs life unfold.
Hii welcome back <3<3 I enjoy your writing, so much so here's a possible prompt idea: how would it happen Sirius giving Harry his Firebolt in your jily lives au?
Thank you! That was such a fun prompt to work with!
Read on AO3 or below the story of How Sirius Saves the Christmas of the Potters (his words, not mine).
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
Thirteen years' worth of presents
This is the coldest Christmas Sirius has ever spent with the Potters.Â
It still beats all of his Christmas with the Blacks, but not by much; he blames the Potters for raising up his standards so much. For the last twelve years, theyâve all made him feel so joyful at this time of the year, with Jamesâ gleeful excitement for Christmas, Lilyâs passion for decoration and Christmas carols, and Harryâs pure cheerfulness with everything related.
Now the house is quiet, and not even his unexpected appearance is enough to warm the mood. One would think that his presence, in the middle of a national manhunt, after months away, would be enough to cheer them up a little.
When he tells Lily this, she just sighs and hands over a cup of tea, heavy with the smell of cognac. âItâs not you. Itâs him.â
Him, Sirius thinks grimly. Voldemortâs name is spoken freely in that house, but no one can mention Peterâs name, despite the fact that his face is in every newspaper, in every wanted poster out there.
And then that familiar self-hatred arises on his chestâif he had already done his job and had caught Peter⌠if all those years ago he hadnât let Peter slip out of his fingers⌠if he hadnât suggested exchanging himself for PeterâŚ
Sirius shakes his head, sipping the tea quietly.
He leaves the house; the air outside is no better, a misty morning that itâs not helping anyone. He stretches his back, considering a morning run just to do something, when he sees a figure cut against the mist. The funny thing is that he can't tell, from that distance and with that weather, if itâs James or Harry. They look remarkably alike, to the point they could be twins. Sometimes Sirius wonders if his non-existent child would look like him; he isnât sure, but he is certainly happy himself if nothing like his own father.
As the figure gets nearer, his shapes are more distinct and the differences are suddenly evident. Harry is still short, not having gone through his growth spurt yet; his eyes are Lilyâs bright green; and he is miserable in a way that 13-year-old James never was.
For a brief moment, Sirius considers just going back to the house. Between Jamesâ grumpy mood and Harryâs unhappy one, he is sure that Lilyâs quietness would be the easiest choice; too bad he was never one to do the uncomplicated thing. âHey, kiddo.â
âHey,â Harry says absently, walking past him to store the broom on his hand in the nearest shed.
âNot the best flying conditions,â tries Sirius. Harry shrugs.Â
âI didnât fly. This broom hates me.â
âEr⌠isnât this the same Cleansweep Five youâve always practiced with?â
âYeah, and it knows I replaced it withâŚâ But his voice breaks, and Harry takes a second longer than necessary to continue. âIt knows it was replaced. The broom chooses the wizard.â
âIâm pretty sure thatâs wands, not brooms.â
Another shrug. âI felt I would just fall out of the broom if I tried. And Merlin forbid that I do anything remotely dangerous these days.â
âHumââ
âBecause obviously Iâm a stupid kid who would be targeted in the middle of Hogsmeadeâitâs not like with those freaky dementors patrolling around and Dumbledore near by I would be protected, noââ
âHarryââ
His godson takes a deep breath. âSorry. Itâs not your fault.â
âActually, if I had caught him already, you would be free to go to Hogsmeade.â
âNoâŚâ But Harryâs mind seems distant now. âYou are doing all you can, I know it.â
âLousy excuse of an Auror I am if I cannotââ
âNo.â Harryâs voice is firm now. âItâs him. Itâs⌠it's Peter Pettigrewâs fault, everything.â
Something about the tone in his voice makes Sirius watch him carefully; he always felt like he had a sixth sense, something his dog form could always catch even when his human senses seemed to be lacking. The way Harry said it, itâs almost as if he knows⌠but James, stubborn as he is, wouldnât have told himâŚ
âHow is the case?â Harry asks him, sitting by the porch and watching him with an unreadable expression.
âThe same as months before, which is going nowhere.â Sirius joins him. âSorry, no trips to Hogsmeade for you in the near future.â
Harry snorts. âThatâs fine for me,â he mumbles, leaning against the rail and closing his eyes. âI thought you would be with Professor Lupin today.â
âProfessor Lupin,â Sirius repeats, half-teasing and half-fonding. âCanât believe you call him that.â
âWell, I couldnât go with Uncle Moony during school. Snape would love it, he already believes I'm favoured.â
âHmph. Snape. Bet heâs hating that Moony got his dream job.â
A frown clouds Harryâs face for a moment before he blinks it away. âEven more after that boggart lesson.â
âWhich boggart?â
âNevilleâs boggart was Snape.â A smirk shines on Harryâs lips now. âProfessor Lupin suggested that Neville could imagine him in his grandmotherâs clothes.â
âNo way. Augusta Longbottomâs clothes? Not the hat withââ
âWith the stuffed vulture, yeah.â
âI canât believe Moony hasnât told us! Worse, I canât believe he didnât take a picture of it!â
âHe canât now, can he? Heâs all professionalâI say he would even take points from me if he caught me out of curfew.â
âThat would be so hypocritical, he never took points from us.â Harry giggles. âCanât argue with him being all professional, though. Moony told us he would rather stay at Hogwarts⌠Mind you, exchanging our amazing company by Snivellusâ, reallyâŚâ But he grimaces as he looks around. âEven though I bet Hogwarts is more festive than this place here.â
âYeahâŚâ Harry glances around with a frown that suggests the mist has done him a great offence. âSnow is so much better than this horrible weather.â
That was not exactly the problem with this holiday, but Sirius decided not to engage in this discussion right now. âThe mist is too creepy for you?â
âIt reminds me of dementors,â Harry whispers with a shiver, his eyes dark now, staring at things that Sirius canât see. âI hate them, Sirius. I hate knowing how close they are at Hogwartsââ
Cold fury washes over him. âI know,â Sirius says, not minding to growl. If he closes his eyes, he still remembers the night of that Quidditch match, when the dementors invaded the field, drawn to the joy they had felt thereâand how Harry had fallen and fallenâŚ
âI donât know how you can even step foot in Azkaban.â
Sirius shakes his head, forcing himself to push that memory to the darkest corner of his mind. Harry survived, thatâs what matters.
âWell, at the end of the day, I know that Iâll leave there, that Iâm innocent of any crime. So the dementors can remind me of all the bad memories they want, knowing Iâll walk freely out of thereâit protects me.â
âI wish it were that easyâhow⌠how can you just forget those memories?â
Sirius watches him closely. Surely Harry has faced some challenges so far, but what memories could he have that affected him so much to the point of losing conscious?
âWhat do you remember, Harry?â
Harry bites his lip, a line marking his forehead, the same one that Lily spots when she is troubled. And as if also thinking about his mother, Harry glances inside the house before looking down.
âThings,â he says finally, jaw set in Lilyâs most tenacious expression, and thatâs how Sirius knows he wonât share more than this. âAnother thing I have to thank Peter Pettigrew for. Dementors. My Nimbus 2000. Hogsmeade. That defeat in the match. He has only brought misery around here, hasn't he?â
More than you could imagine, Sirius thinks grimly, but he offers Harry a kind smile. âIt was only the first match of the season. Gryffindor still has a shot.â
âI hope so. Losing the snitch still haunts meâŚâ Harry blinks. âYou were there on the day of the match, werenât you?â
Sirius flushes, as embarrassed as he can get. âYeah, I couldnât help it.â
âYou could have warned me!â
âIt was sort of a secret missionââ
âThatâs why you went as Padfoot?â
âYeah⌠I thought there was a trail but it went nowhere.â He shakes his head, not wanting to share how he explored all the shortcuts heâd known during his time at Hogwarts, but if Peter was there, he wasnât apparently using any of them.
âYou nearly got me killed, did you know that?â
âWasnât that the dementorsâ fault?â
Harry rolls his eyes. âNo, before. I saw you in the standsâI thought you were the grim.â
âTheâwhat?â
âBlack dog, death omen. Trelawney sees it in my teacup all the time.â
âTrelawney?â
âYeah, Professor Trelawney, from Divination. Sheâs a fraud, really.â
Sirius nods, but he doesnât say anything. He realises now from where he knows her name and, fraud or not, this Trelawney woman got at least one moment in her life where she was the real deal, and that moment changed everyoneâs lives.
âI should have listened to you and not have enlisted for this class,â Harry adds, shaking his head in mock lament.
âI donât know,â Sirius says teasingly. âThere is always a black dog around you.â
Harry laughs, accepting his joke. Sirius grins with him; itâs better that Harry doesnât take Divination too much into consideration.Â
âWell, try not to scare me to death again, will you?â
âIâll do my best.â
âYou could have come by to see me later.â
âSecret mission, remember? People might have suspected if this black death omen dog showed up at your side. And besides, I knew you were all right. I had the best gossip source.â
âDad?â guesses Harry.
Sirius smirks. âNo. Hermioneâs cat.â
âCrookshanks? Youâve made friends with that beast?â
âThatâs the smartest cat Iâve ever met! We hit it at once!â
âShould I schedule the wedding?â Harry teases him, laughing when Sirius shoves him playfully. âRon hates Crookshanks. Ever since he came into Hermioneâs life, Scabbers wonât show up for anything, always hidden inside one of Ronâs socks.â
âScabbers?â
âRonâs rat. Canât blame him, Crookshanks would scare me if I were a small rat also.â
Sirius smiles, but a thought comes to his mind. âWhat kind ofââ
âPadfoot.â Jamesâ voice interrupts him. At Siriusâ side, Harry stiffs, but he keeps looking ahead. Jamesâ gaze flicks to his son for a moment. âCrouch is calling for you in the fireplace.â
âIf the Head of the International Magical Cooperation is looking for me, I have a problem. Even worse, an abroad problem.â He stretches his back as he stands up. âDonât mind my call, you two can talk if you want.â
James frowns at him, an expression thatâs mirrored on Harryâs face. Sirius tries not to smile at this; they are both too stubborn sometimes.
He is not surprised to find them standing in the same positions when he returns minutes later; it doesn't look as if theyâve said any word at all.
âIreland,â Sirius declares ruefully. âThereâs a hot tip that Peâthat he was spotted in Dublin last night.â
âDublin?â James asks skeptically. âWhat would he be doing there?â
âOh, great.â Harry mumbles. âAnother place Iâm forbidden to go.â He stands up, arms crossed, and looking very much like the teenager he is as he pointedly ignores his father. âWill you be back by tomorrow? It's Christmas.â
âLetâs hope so.â
Harry smiles briefly at him, then he walks past his father without saying anything.
James waits until Harry is out of sight to raise his eyebrows, looking at Sirius rather sternly. âYou know you wonât be back.â
âNo, but let the kid wait for a Christmas miracle. Itâs better than giving him no hope.â He shifts his weight from one feet to another, suddenly unsure if he should say anything, but Sirius is very good at acting recklessly. âYou should make up with him.â
âDon't you think I want it? But Harry hates me. Iâm only trying to protect him and my son hates me.â
âHarry doesnât. Trust me, this is coming from someone with a truly messed up family. Harry may be mad and upset but he wonât ever hate you.â
James doesnât answer him.
âHave you talked to him? It would be much easier if heââ
âNo.â
âIs this how you wanna spend the holidays? With you two not talking to each other, notââ
âIâIâm the father here, Sirius, I canâtâif heâs gonna be mad at me, if heâs gonna complain it isnât fair he canât go to Hogsmeade, then so be it. I will do anything I have to do to protect him, especiallyâŚâ Jamesâ eyes glow darkly. âPeter wonât get him. Not again.â
For a moment, Sirius thinks he sees a shadow moving inside the house, but when he looks there, there is no one.
He shakes his head, trying to arrange his lips into a comforting smile. âOf course he wonât. I will craft the perfect mousetrap in Dublin and heâll fall for it. It will be my Christmas present for Harry, a brand new permission slip for him to go to Hogsmeade.â
âThat would be a worthy present.â
âWell, itâs the first time I wonât be around for Christmas. It has to be something to make up for it.â
James shakes his head, a small smile on his lips. âJust come back safely, you know thatâs all we want.â
âI never know if I should weep or be offended when you worry about me, Prongs.â
âOh, shut it, Padfoot.â
*~*~*~*~*~*~*
The brown package is the last gift Harry has left to open. He stares at it uncertainly, picking up the Christmas card before anything.
Siriusâ letter is short.
Harry,
Iâm sorry for missing Christmas this year. Please consider it an adequate present for your godfatherâs absence â and also for your next thirteen birthdays and Christmas.
I wish you a very happy Christmas. I heard itâs the perfect time of the year to enjoy your family and forgive old grievances. Just saying.
Iâll see you again soon.
Sirius.
He frowns slightly at Siriusâ recommendation, not subtle at all, but then all thoughts are gone from his mind as he unwraps Siriusâ present and there it is. The dream broom Harry heâd obsessed over in the summer, all shining and new and impeccable.
âWhat theââ He closes his eyes and opens them again, and yet the Firebolt remains there, hung absurdly in midair in front of the Christmas tree in the middle of the Potterâs living room. Sirius has gone over the edge this time, this canât be realâ
âWhat theââ Harry turns around sharply. His father is at the door, staring at the broom with the same bewildered look that Harry knows itâs in his face. âWhere did you get this?â
âSirius sent me,â Harry says. And then, because he canât stop himself, he adds: âUnless somehow Pettigrew jinxed it.â
His father flinches; guilt floods Harry at once. He hadnât truly meant to snap at his father, but sometimes his tongue is quicker than his brain, lashing out his anger even when, at his point, he isnât even that angry with his father anymore.Â
Not after what he heard on the day he went illegally to Hogsmeade, truly defying his father for the first time in his life. Not after heâd finally understood what he had only seen before: how his father gets upset whenever the topic of Peter Pettigrew arises, how this goes beyond any wild attempt to overprotect him.
âYou remember their little group, Rosmerta,â Professor McGonagall had said. âJames Potter, Sirius Black, Remus Lupin and Peter Pettigrew. They were thick as thieves, always together, the four of them.â
âFidelius Charm,â Professor Flitwick had explained. âAn immensely complex spellâand Pettigrew was their Secret-Keeper.â
Madame Rosmerta had looked surprised. âNot Sirius Black?â
âThey thought it was the perfect bluff, Rosmerta,â the Minister had answered. âBlack convinced them, such an ingenious idea â it almost killed Black also how he went after Pettigrew the day after⌠I was only a Junior Minister at that time and I still have dreams about it sometimes, a crater in the middle of the street, all those bodiesâŚâ
âAnd James,â Professor McGonagall had added, her voice strangely rough. âHe has never forgiven himself for not seeing what Pettigrew was⌠For handling the fate of his family to a friend who betrayed him.â
And whenever Harry looks at his parents ever since coming back for the holidays â ever since the dementors â all he can hear is his motherâs pleas that Voldemort doesnât kill him, how she begs for Voldemort to kill her instead. He had never heard her sound so frightened, and if it all had happened because of a betrayal, because of that man Harry had seen in the newspaper, a man who had been one of his fatherâs closest friendsâŚ
And his father had sounded so gaunt while talking to Sirius⌠he tried to imagine how he would feel if Ron or Hermione had betrayed him, but that felt as impossible as the sun not risingâand if his father had felt like this only to discover his old friend was still aliveâŚ
âIâm sorry,â he whispers uncertainly. âDo you⌠do you wanna strip it down orââ
âI donât think anyone has jinxed it,â his father says, taking a step closer. He is fidgeting with his hands, looking as unsure as Harry feels. âSirius would be cautious.â
âHum.â Harry smiles tentatively. âDunno. He did send me a broom that is worth⌠I donât even know how much.â
âWell, he isnât cautious with his money, thatâs for sure.â They exchange a smile that dies shortly. Thereâs a beat and then Harry feels it again, that wall that seems to exist between him and his father, with all the secrets they canât share with each other.
He hates this wall so much.
Perhaps itâs a feeling that his father understands, because he winks at Harry, trying. âShouldnât you be outside?â
âWhat?â
âThis Firebolt wasnât made to indoor flights.â
âButâcan I keep it? For real? I meanâIâd be happy with my old Nimbusââ
âHey, donât insult the Firebolt. The broom has to choose you, donât forget it.â
Harry grins. âYeah, I know.â
âIâll let Sirius know heâs forbidden to give you anything else for the next ten years, though.â
âThirteen.â Harry raises the letter, smirking. âThe Firebolt is thirteen yearsâ worth of presents.â
His father laughs. Itâs the first time Harry has heard the sound of his laugh this holiday and just now he realises how much he was missing it.
âGo on then,â his father says, moving to sit by the Christmas tree on his favourite couch.Â
âDad?â
âYes?â
Harry bites his lip; his chest is heavy with his urge to ask his father why he was never told about Peter and the betrayal, even more with his crave to admit what the dementors made him relive. He wants his father to tell him that he is safe, to protect him more than just by forbidding him to go visit a village, to somehow cast an aura of protection around him that no dementor will ever penetrate again.
But he can't ask this of his father; Harry doesn't want to share this burden, not when his father already carries the guilt for Peter on his shoulder for the past twelve years.
So he just asks instead: âDo you wanna fly with me? We could race in the garden.â
Thereâs a shine of undisguised hope in his fatherâs eyes, but he just smiles quietly. âOnly if we take turns with the Firebolt. I want to feel that acceleration of 150 miles an hour in ten seconds.â
Harry smiles back. âSure.â
As they are leaving the room, his father glances at Siriusâ letter. âChristmas miracles,â he mumbles. âNot bad, Padfoot.â
Hi!! Do you know the name of a fic (its an older one) that: Jily lives, Lily is president of the US, Ginny is an ex-boxer who moved to the US for college, Harry is struggling to find his way/what he wants to do, Sirius is Harry's bodyguard, Ron comes to visit and meets Hermione, Ginny lives with Luna? It was completed and the sequal was started to be posted and I can't remember what it was called anymore... Thanks!
This sounds like half awake and almost there by Annerb though i'm a bit thrown by it being described as older, but it's probably my perspective that's skewed...
oh my god i just saw your post about 1k followers!!!! Congratulations Mah <3 <3 well, to celebrate, here's a prompt on the world where jily lives: Lily talking to Ginny in Harry's sixth year, it can be about anything, about Dean, Harry, boys in general, or whatever you want ahahaha
Thanks so much, Sweet! Here's Lily talking to Ginny and being a very discreet if only slightly insistent Hinny shipper:
***
"Again, thank you so much, Lily," says Ginny, closing the door of the loo behind her.
Lily smiles. "No problem. Do you need anything else?" Ginny shakes her head, but Lily sees the grimace crossing her face for a moment. "Are you sure you don't need anything for cramps?"
"I don't wantâ"
"It's no trouble," assures Lily at once. "I can brew this potion in my sleepâit's very easy, actually."
"Can I help you? It would be useful to learn how to do it."
"Sure, let's go down to my office." As they are walking down the stairs, Lily adds: "You know, there should be a class at Hogwarts for those useful potions."
"I don't imagine Snape teaching us this," Ginny quips, laughing.
Lily tries not to betray any emotion. "No, I'm guessing he wouldn't."
Ginny opens her mouth to say something, but they are interrupted by the arrival of Harry as soon as they appear in the hall.
"You are taking so long,â he complains, looking at Ginny. âIâm waiting for you to begin the game.â
Ginny sighs. âI need a few more minutes.â
âWhat could possibly be more important than Quidditch?â asks Harry, smirking, his voice teasing and with that light that Lily has come to associate with Ginnyâs presence lately.
Ginny grins innocently.
âYour mum will teach me how to brew a potion for cramps.â
Harry frowns. âCramps? Why would you needâoh.â He flushes, his face the colour of Ginnyâs hair in a second. âSo, ahâIâll just leave you thenâŚâ
Ginny seems to take pity on him. âYou and Ron can start without me, I catch up later.â
âOh, no.â Harry collects himself. âIâwe will wait for you.â Ginny nods, but Harry doesnât move; he eyes the door as if he just want to bolt out of the room, his face in a mix of embarrassment and uncertainty, until he asks, in a soft voice. âCan I help you somehow? A massage on the foot orââ
Ginny throws him an amused look. âA massage?â
âThatâs what Dad does when Mum has cramps,â mumbles Harry, face red again. âNever mind, I⌠see you later.â
And he leaves them, his hand grabbing his hair nervously, almost hitting the door instead of passing through.
Lily fights back a swoon. âIt will be quick,â she promises again, opening the door to her office. She guides Ginny through the ingredients, preparing them and then brewing the potion, explaining each step.
âYou really are a better teacher than Snape,â comments Ginny as she twirls potion. âHow come you are not teaching instead of him?â
âNever came up. I never pictured myself as a professor at Hogwarts.â She glances at Ginny. âDo you?â
Ginny blushes. âI wanted to be a professor when I was younger. It was one way of going to Hogwarts and never leavingâall my brothers were there, soâŚâ
âNot a dream anymore?â
âNow most of my brothers are out of school, what would be the fun? I think I just wanted to boss them around.â
Lily nods kindly. âItâs not easy being the youngest, I know.â
Ginny blinks, throwing her a curious glance. âYou had brothers?â
âAn older sister, actually.â
âOh, Harry neverââ
âWe donât get along very well.â Lily doesnât fight back a grimace now. Petunia is still a complicated issue. âWe were not like you and your brothers, it was not⌠easy.â
âWell,â begins Ginny slowly, âsometimes they drive me crazy. Bill has been all around Phlegm these days, Charlie is never at home, Percy isâyou know how he is, Fred and George are Gred and Forge too much sometimes, and Ronââ She shakes her head. âRon has decided to be overzealous now.â
Lily smiles softly now. âHow so?â
âHe decided to meddle with my relationships.â Ginny rolls her eyes. âHe should be caring about the lack of romance in his own life, not whatever I do with mine.â
Lily steals a glance outside; Ron is flying, up in the air, but Harry is by the shadow of a tree, waiting. âRomance, huh? How are things with Michael?â
Ginny puffs, stirring the potion too quickly for a moment; Lily corrects her.
âSorry... I broke up with Michael. He couldnât deal with the fact that Gryffindor beat Ravenclaw at Quidditch; he was an awful loser.â
âOh, it happens.â Lily adds powder of unicorn horn to the potion. âJust a pinch, you see? Wellâmaybe you should avoid inter-houses relationship if you are going to keep beating them at Quidditch.â
Ginny laughs. âThatâs a thought,â she agrees. âIâm going out with Dean now; heâs a Gryffindor, so Quidditch wonât be an issue at least.â
Lily holds a dismayed sigh. âI guess not. Deanâthatâs the boy in Harryâs year, right?â
âYeah, Dean Thomas. He is nice.â A slight flush comes to her cheeks. âHeâs been writing me all summer, thatâs why I was in a hurry today and forgot the pads and the medicine for cramps.â
"All the magic of being in love?â
âActually, I was trying to hide the letter before anyone saw it. He writes these long letters, filled with declarations and poetry and some beautiful drawings⌠If anyone would see itâŚâ Ginny gives her an embarrassing smile.
âYour family knows about him?â asks Lily knowingly.
âMum and Dad know that Iâm going out with him, and Mum mentioned that they might have dinner with him and his family, but no.â Panic fills Ginny's brown eyes. âIâm not presenting anyone to Mum until I get engaged and since I donât see this happening in the near future, no dinners. Ever.â
Lily laughs. âThey just want to know more about him. Iâd like to meet whoever Harry was dating⌠or whoever he fancied.â
âIâm not sure you would like Cho,â Ginny comments airily.
Lily looks away. âOh, Iâm sure Harry has moved on.â
âRon will be pleased to know, he told Harry he should choose someone better next time.â For some reason, this makes Ginny roll her eyes, the redness spreading up to the roots of her hair now, before she blinks. âAnyway, Ron knows as wellâI told him since heâd find out eventually, they share a dorm, for Merlinâs sake. But then he spilled the beans to Fred and George, and they all tried to give me some sort of talk, as if Iâm moving on too quickly between the two boyfriends Iâve ever had in lifeâŚâ But then something flashes in Ginnyâs eyes and she throws a furtive glance at Lily. âDid you date someone else before James?â
âOh, yeah. My mother always told me a princess should kiss other frogs before finding out her prince charming.â Ginny blinks at her, eyes widened. âItâs from a Muggle childrenâs story.â
âWhy should you kiss a frog?â
âHe might turn into a prince."
"Butâa frog, really? That's a bit disgusting."
"The point is there is no harm being with other people before settling with the one. Or you might not even need the one, Sirius never did.â
âAnd heâs perfectly happy with it,â notes Ginny. Then she sighs. âI donât know, I see my parents, I see you and James⌠it would be nice, you know? Having someone that day after day makes my heart beat faster, that gives me those tingles and⌠it just doesnât fade away.â
Lily blows away the fire under the cauldron. âAnd you think Dean is the one?â
âIâI donât know. This is why we date people, right? To find out if we are compatible with them?â
âYes. One of the reasons, at least.â
Ginnyâs thoughtful expression breaks into a grin. âSnogging isnât so bad either.â
Lily laughs heartily.
Thereâs a knock on the door, and then comes Harryâs muffled voice. âGinny? Are you alright?â
âTwo minutes,â she yells in answer, and then she glances at Lily as she moves to take a glass under the cabinet. âSpeaking of someone who should enjoy a good snog.â
âIf only you were single,â mumbles Lily.
ďťżâWhat?â
âNothing.â Lily smiles innocently. âFive drops of the potion should be enough for your weight.â
âThanks again, Lily.â Ginny swallows the potion in one gulp. âIt tastes so much better than the ones Madam Pomfrey gives us.â
âI added a few ingredients,â Lily confides her. âI always thought cramps are already bad enoughâwhy should the potion taste so bitter?â
âHow can I ever repay you?â
So, I have this sonâŚ
âJust teach others how to brew it, spread some chocolate-tasting potion for cramping at Hogwarts.â
âCount me in,â Ginny says whole-heartily. Thereâs another knock on the door, and Ginny sighs exaggeratedly. âIâll go before your son comes bursting in.â
Harry is waiting at the door; his restless expression breaks into an inviting grin as the sight of Ginny, and he extends his hand, offering Ginny her broomstick. And Lily canât help but notice that, for all Ginny teased Harryâs impatience before, she seems just as glad to see him.
âSo eager to lose another Weasley Race,â she teases, voice flooding with warmth.
Harry laughs. âYou will lose so badly we will need to call it Potter Race from now on.â
âWe will need a Healing Potion for your ego later. It will be hurt.â
âYou know I once outraced a dragon, right?â
âA dragon is easier than me.â
âYouââ
âMaybe you should banter less and fly more?â Lily suggests, her lips twitching. âAnd try not to break any limbs. Iâm out of Skele-Gro.â
They both turn to look at her, faces equally flushed. âNo broken bones, Mum,â promises Harry.
âWe will be careful,â adds Ginny. Then she steals a glance at Harry, unable to resist some pull. âIâll go slow on him.â
âYou are going slower, thatâs it,â replies Harry gladly, and Lily shakes her head as they head off, still bantering happily.
Slow, she thinks. Thatâs a slow romance indeedâif only theyâd notice sooner how compatible they areâŚ
idea: jily lives au when james and lily take harry and ginny's kids for a day
love your work sm <3
hi anon, hope you like this one shot, I tried various scenarios but nothing felt right so I hope you like it
NAMES:
James Sirius - Jake (because I thought it would be too confusing to write two James)
Albus Severus - Monty (I don't know the second name and for us now it doesn't matter) (thanks @startanewdream who always talks about him as Monty <3)
Lily Luna remains the same because I like it :)
-------------
Fun
It had been a while since they'd taken a trip of them all together, so Lily was happy to have them there, already a little unaccustomed to the hustle, seeing as now with everyone at Hogwarts, whenever they went to Harry and Ginny's house, it was much quieter and calmer than when the children were actually⌠children.
''Where are we going?'' Jake asked, sitting in the back seat, as usual, looking very happy to be traveling.
Monty, next to him, looked a little less excited, but Lily knew that was a lot because they had to get up early and the boy just wasn't an early bird, than anything else. ''Can I open my chips?''
''If you eat it all, I won't give mine,'' Lily-Lu said, an almost wicked smile on her face, overjoyed since she'd managed to win the window seat fight. ââGrandpa, can I choose the music?ââ
Lily chuckled softly, watching James answer the grandchildren very patiently as he put the car to fly.
[...]
''I can't believe we're going on a roller coaster,'' James whispered to her, the two of them behind the kids in line.
''Jake is excited about the possibility of near death, as they promise,'' Lily smiled, finishing off the cotton candy that Lilu hadn't been able to eat. ''Are you afraid?''
''Never!'' Her husband ran a hand through his hair, rolling his eyes as if it was the most bizarre thing she could think of him. ''Almost death? Please, we fought Voldemort, I can't believe it,'' He smiled, giving her a quick peck.
''How are we going to distribute the seats?'' Monty looked at the two, even though he looked scared, he was still firm with the idea of ââgoing on the ride.
James, seeming to know what his grandson really wanted to askâ''Which of you two is going with me?'' âsaid; ''I'll go with you, and those two decide who goes with Lily, how about it?''
The boy nodded, shyly letting out a breath and relaxing his shoulders. ''It's all right. I think Jake will want to go with the girl over there, they keep talking.â
''Merlin,'' Lily laughed. ''Okay, Lilu and I are going together,'' She winked at her granddaughter, who nodded and adjusted the bucket she was wearing, grinning from ear to ear.
''We'll be next,'' Jake turned to speak to them, cheeks slightly flushed, running a hand through his hair and nervously adjusting the shirt he was wearing. Lily doubted it was because he was scared of the roller coaster. ''Mum would love to be here,''
''But she must be enjoying Barcelona a lot more,'' Monty said skeptically, as if he thought it was stupid of his brother to imagine that Ginny and Harry would rather be there than on a couple's trip.
''Of course,'' Jake rolled his eyes. Lily laughed, thinking about how she had missed that chaotic teenage energy her grandchildren now exuded.
They were no longer those little kids who didn't mind being slung over their shoulders or seen showing affection to their old grandparents. The three now had an image to maintain, they thought about the clothes they would wear, how they would fix their hair, how they would smileâŚ
As much as she and James kept getting all those tight hugs and wet kisses on the cheeksânow just because they wanted to piss them offâwhenever they saw them, it still broke her heart to see them so grown up.
Monty was only 14 and already bigger than she!
''Grandpa...'' Lilu muttered awkwardly, approaching James and Lily as if she wanted to hide, and indeed she did, and soon they were already realizing why.
''Everybody calm down,'' James said to the three of them, who stopped talking to each other to start looking nervous, as they always did. ââPretend normality.ââ
As discreetly as possible, James muttered a protection spell around them, one that Lily and he had studied hard to do once paparazzi became a problem after Harry's first year at Hogwarts was over.
Even Jake, who was the one who almost never cared about the pictures, moved closer to Lily, which made her huff annoyed that those vultures were ruining their day. The last time they were in the paper, the comments made were far from friendly, which resulted in Ginny causing quite a stir in the Witch Weekly boss's office.
An anti-photo shield formed around them and it didn't change how people saw them, but now, whenever they tried to take a picture of them, the camera wouldn't be able to capture them and there would be a big void where they were.
''Come on,'' James put his wand away, smiling at the security guard who indicated where they could sit. ''Let's see if this is scarier than fighting a war,''
''Ah!'' Monty said, sitting down next to James, looking more comfortable now. Whether because of the protection around them, or being on his grandfather's side, Lily wasn't sure. ''But then nothing will be scary if you think like that,''
''I'm sure this is going to be scarier,'' Jake grinned from ear to ear, looking a lot like his father. As soon as the girl sat down next to him, he turned back to the front, going back to talking only to her.
James chuckled, looking over his shoulder at Lily who also laughed and denied it, having not missed this phase at all, remembering what Harry was like at sixteen, wanting as much as possible to run away from them when a girl was around.
''I hope so,'' Lily-Lu said, putting on her belt and adjusting her hat on her head, which Lily had cast a spell to keep from falling. ''Monty, don't piss your pants! This gonna be wild''
In the midst of a brutal war, Lily and James are betrayed by one of their best friends and manage to survive. Harry, still only a baby, is declared the Boy Who Lived, a child of the prophecy.
But Lily will tear the wizarding world apart before they use her son for their gain. Faced with an impossible choice, she leaves James behind, retreating to the Muggle world and the sanctuary of her sister, who she had almost given up on.
When James appears in her life once more, Lily has to decide between the relative safety of their Muggle existence and the man she still loves.
Or: Lily and Petunia raise Harry.
