“fat women are statistically likely to be sexually harassed than their thinner counterparts, and are overtly more sexualized for their “curves” in music culture. Lyrics like: “All dat ass man I’m astounded/She dropped it/I stood and looked there dumb-founded” shows a subliminal seualization of curves, and girls (in general) are usually seen half naked dancing or laying on couches half back-bending. Not a confidence booster I’ll tell ya that. Fat-shaming is seen as completely welcome to comment to strangers, as if being larger is like wearing a sign on your head saying “TELL ME HOW FAT I AM AS IF I DIDN’T KNOW”. Women can be fired from their jobs for being overweight, and the amount of pressure there is on being beautiful is so important to people that many young adults can turn to self-starvation and other forms of anorexia and bulimia nervosa. We are more likely to be harassed about our appearance daily compared to other people, and it leads to a vicious cycle of feeling bad about appearance, trying & failing to do something about it, feeling worse, eating our feelings, and getting harassed again. The fact that people find it acceptable to comment on appearance at all is nauseating, and they need to shut the fuck up.

So I guess the overall point of writing this is to tell people that I’m done with tiptoeing around the subject and I am throwing my fatness into the spotlight. So what if I’m chubby? I’m not apologizing for it anymore. There have been too many times where I have apologized for being the size I am, and minimized myself to make people feel more comfortable with hooking up with me. I’m not going to hide under all these baggy clothes anymore, and I encourage everyone else to do the same. Weight shouldn’t have a negative connotation to it, and I want everyone to join me in making the word fat unstigmatized. If you are under-educated on the topic of fatness and have the privilege of never knowing what it is like to be overweight in our society, I’m challenging you to put aside your defenses and read up on obesity stigma and the day-to-day pressures and hurdles we have to jump through.” READ MILAS POST, LINK IN BIO
