Okay, so I have this Aerion fic idea living rent-free in my head and I NEED to share it. Reader is a Targaryen (cousin or relative) and she’s betrothed to Aerion. The story starts when he returns from Lys.
Their relationship is complicated, to say the least. Since it's Aerion we're talking about, he’s arrogant and difficult. Even though he’s obsessed with dragons himself, he constantly mocks the reader for her devotion to her egg. He makes snide remarks and insults her, acting as if she’s the mad one. In fact, at first, he didn't even want to marry her—he was furious at the idea of being wed to someone he thought had lost her mind over a stone. Deep down, he’s also incredibly bitter; he refuses to believe she could ever be worthy enough to hatch a dragon when even he hasn't succeeded. To him, if a true dragon like himself couldn't do it, there’s no way she can.
Here’s the thing about the reader: she’s a whimsical soul. It’s also hinted that the reader might be a Dreamer? or has a very strong sixth sense, she has this mystical aura that makes her connection to the ancient Valyrian ways feel deeper than anyone else's. She has this dragon egg that was put in her cradle as a baby, and even though it never hatched, she refuses to let it go. She carries it everywhere like it’s a part of her. She talks to it, sings to it in High Valyrian, and even holds it to her ear to 'listen' to it. Whenever she isn't carrying it around, she keeps it in her hearth, even during the hottest summer days; she keeps a fire roaring just so the egg won't catch a cold.
In this AU, instead of Aegon, it’s Maekar who tries to bring dragons back because he’s struggling to keep the realm under control.
We all know what happened at Summerhall, but in this version, while everyone is running for their lives from the wildfire and the collapse, reader runs back into the fire. She can’t leave her egg behind, it’s her best friend, her soul. Everyone thinks she’s a goner, but when the smoke clears and the fires die down... she walks out of the ashes with a living dragon.
AND I KNOW it’s very Daenerys coded. But honestly? Who cares😭 I keep playing this specific scene in my head like a movie. I haven't even read the books and I haven't even watched the entirety of GoT, but here we are. I am just obsessed with the visual of her walking out of the ruins of Summerhall with her dragon.
