When a world does not accommodate how you are, when you appear wrong in some way, feeling wrong in your body, being wrong in your body, loving the wrong body, mourning a wronged body, you have to be less accommodating if you are to persist in being who you are being.
Sara Ahmed, “Wiggle Room” (via 4a0000)
A cornered mouse will bite a cat.
This does not reclassify the mouse as a predator or the cat as prey.
To love. To be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and the vulgar disparity of life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all, to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never, to forget.

[C]hildhood and femininity are deeply co-constructed and intersecting categories: women are infantilized and children are feminized, female youth and sexual innocence are prized while childhood innocence is eroticized, and women are historically treated as legal and social minors subject to paternal power.
Tyler Bickford, “Tween Intimacy” in WSQ’s Child (69)
