Hi Cia! :) How do you make studying enjoyable and fun? Do you have any tips or things you say to yourself (affirmations) that help you enjoy your studies? How do you overcome slumps?
Hi! Sorry in advance this will probably be a long answer!
I try to make studying more enjoyable by:
Starting my study sessions with planning, because I love planning and it gets me motivated
Having a nice tidy study space, lighting a candle and turning on my aromatherapy diffuser and fairy lights
Always staying up to date to minimise stress and keep up my motivation, and it also really helps to know that I have a set amount of work to do and then it’s over … rather than feeling like I could carry on working all night and still have more to do
Watching youtube and Netflix while studying if the task doesn’t take too much thought e.g. copying up notes or making revision cards
If I have an assignment to write I like to go to coffee shops to help me focus but also the nice drinks and cosy atmosphere make it easier to work for longer
I learn most of the material for my exams using the matching game on Quizlet, which doesn’t feel like hard work but really helps me memorise things
I wouldn’t really say I have any affirmations, but the thought of being up to date and then allowing myself to relax is enough to keep me going, so I guess I remind myself of that when I’m feeling demotivated, and think about how much better I will feel the next day if I’ve already done the work.
Also, I do most of my work in the mornings so I can relax in the evenings.
I tend to watch those youtube videos of people having a ‘life reset day’ or ‘get your shit together day’ for motivation and then try to do the same myself.
I usually find that if I stop thinking about studying and do all of the other things that need doing: laundry, washing my hair, vacuuming, making healthy food, my skincare routine etc. that once I’m done my mind is clear and I feel ready to study again.
Watch ‘study with me’s if you need to study but don’t feel like it.
The idea that if you tell yourself you only need do one simple 5 minute task, by the time you’ve done that you’ll probably want to carry on, really works. Try that.
Try studying out of the house at a coffee shop or library where you can’t just sit in your pyjamas and watch Netflix
