At the beginning of the month we had worked on the poster collectively. I was taking suggestions from people and we made it happen with how the font amd overal ambiance of the poster is. I worked on the tirle and the composition to make sure it was cohesive, and we we t through several iterations of the Title. Which will also be our title in the short.

We started with the overall font and then transitioned to a more stylized approach .

We eventually settled on this title!

Over the past 2 weeks Autumn Jones and I have been working together on the lighting for both the Dungeon and the upper stage level. We added a more subtle green ambiance lighting to the dungeon to give it a more ominous glow. The stage we added some red and other lights to also increase the feeling of tension in the space. We tried to focus overall on subtle light for the dungeon. As we want to make this area more of a grimy feeling. The stage is loud and expressive, and we are still playing around with what colors could go best with the blue.

I also worked on fixing Lizzo’s textures, but unfortunately I dont have a picture of this at present.

This week I have finished the base colors for the promotional material. I also foxed the perspective, as it was incredibly wonky. Herein lies a good spot to pause and start working on other aspects for the film.

Unfortunately, I was only able to spruce up Finn’s figure in the poster for the time I had this week. Amongst other classes that I have and work.

However, I visited the RedLine Gallery where our thesis’s will be presented. It was good to see the space where our shorts would be.

For this week, our group did a great job of keeping momentum moving forward and working towards our short being completed. Most of the group mesorked on blocking animation and texturing.

As the resident 2D marketer, I worked primarily on advancing the look and feel of our promotional material. Over the week I came up with 3 roughs and 1 more sketch. I presented these to the group during our weekly meeting and then again today to see which ones we could advance further to a rendered state.

These are the rough variants I drew up this week. Focusing on a different feel for each one to give a bit more variety depending on what we chose as a group.

Out of these three, the group decided that the standing (first poster) was what we are going for as a poster. Therefore I spent today in class and plan to spend the next week on fleshing this one particular poster out as much as I can for a second pass.

I have chosen to bring a more forced perspective than the first rough, making the ring master more foreboding. This is where I started, and this is where I am starting for the next week:

The hand will be the element that everyone is revolving around. I focused on also creating more clean lineart for this next week as well.

Essentially cleaning everything up.

This week I have begun work on promotional meterial for the short: DIM. I have been tasked with the completion of 3 rough drafts by the end of next week, Feb 3rd. As I am proficient with 2D elements as well with experience in marketing some sort of product.

Im taking an illustrative approach to the works, and am going to base these on more of a fantastical/ horror element. As out short is definitely a mix of the two.

My biggest inspiration for these photos are the artist, Sara Kipin’s work, and how she uses color and composition.

Here we have the beginnings of development work in terms of our luck that we are going to present for the merchandise and advertising. As well as how the ringmaster thinks of himself. These are all based on Victorian style circus photos circa the 1860s to the 1890s. My main emphasis was broad shapes bright colors, and loud Bombastic nature. The crowd surrounding the main area is also drawn in a 2D style. They will be shadowed and red as to create an imposing presents among us characters.

For the last few months I have been working on styled textures. These are in the style of base color with many filters to emulate a hand painted look. This in turn was then added to Ambient Occlusion for shadow and Highlights. Over all this is a stylized, low res type of texture that works perfectly for our props.

Here is an example of an object Ive been working on. There are more in the actual drive. But these were the ones I could could get example photos of.

September 10 - September 22

Myself, Kathryn, and Autumn have been working primarily on just Motion Capture. Setting up the suits to match our coordination and measurements, as well as getting used to actin in them. The entire two weeks has been dedicated creating some of our largest sequences.

August 22nd to September 9th

Progress has been slow these first few weeks, as I have been reacquainted with the programs and story. I have been mainly assigned to learning Unreal, as I have never used the program before. That has taken up most of my time. However, I have been working on prototype models for a very important asset: the turnstile. How will it look? How will it be powered in the short? How will we communicate the moving light as part of the story? That has been what I have been primarily working on alongside the unreal education.
