Post cancer fitness recovery has been a bit difficult and I'm still not used to that nasty scar (and probably never will) but I thought I'd share with transparency my progress after 27 days of getting the OK from the doc to get back in shape. I'm not there yet but on the right track. I'm not posting this to show off but to motivate myself and others of what is possible and how you can change your health/body/image in less than a month with a little effort and discipline. For those of you wondering, my workout consist of a 10 minute jog every morning followed by a 30-45min workout at home with dumbells and a bench. No supplements, no gym membership, no expenses... So no excuses! My diet is basically cutting down on the white stuff (salt, sugar, rice, bread, pasta, flour) and processed foods and eating 15 X my weight in calories a day. Sweet and simple. Tonight I'm feeling grateful for this summer's tour in Zakynthos, Greece :)  Was dealing with the cancer stuff and wasn't able to mingle as much and go out as much as I would have liked but still enjoyed myself deeply. A huge thanks to Νικολαος Κανδιανος for bringing me there and the entire staff at Venues (Lee Chambers (best soundman ever), Huy Phan (what a nice guy), all the staff for being so kind and human, all the performers I've met that I didn't get a chance to know as much as I would have liked: Kirk Alexander, Steve Hunt, David Stuart, Robert Wright, Lisa Mills, Jay Styles, Kathy Bishopp Vocalist all amazingly talented and kind human beings  :) A big thank you to my adoptive family Julie Tourikis, Spiros Tourikis, Pascalis Tourikis and all the wonderful staff at the Mill, we did not get to spend as much time together as we planned but I understand how busy you are and I am still grateful, Marios Maroudas, what a great new friend you have been to me, you speak form the heart and I respect and enjoy your friendship, Alex Soulis, a kind soul who truly enjoys great music and I truly respect, Wayne Amos: what a nice guy, passionate, true, talented, was a pleasure meeting you and finally my neighbor Heather Smith for the support, amazing experiences and company  :) Wishing all of you an amazing night. It’s funny how when you stop being in your head all the time you get to experience so much more in life. We get so caught up in our worries, the things we want to accomplish and how amazing things will be when we reach our next goal that we forget how amazingly lucky we already are, right now in the present, the only place that matters. I’ve been jogging in my new neighborhood for almost 18 months now. Waking up with my ‘goals for the day’ and ‘things to accomplish’ and going over them as I’m running past the same park next to my house. This morning I woke up with a feeling of gratitude and instead I just focused on being present in the now, and for the first time ever I saw how amazingly beautiful this park is. I just never took the time to notice, yet is was there all along. The moral of my story: True happiness in life is not having what you want, it’s wanting what you already have. Have good night. Today for the first time since the operation I was able to do a 25 minute light jog finally without hurting too much.  It might seem like not much but for a guy who’s been working out every day for the past couple of months it was a huge accomplishment and a nice boost for my well-being .  If all goes well in 3 weeks I’ll be able to lift weights again and get back to my normal routine. The scar is healing well even though I must admit it pisses me off to know that I’ll have that scar for the rest of my life on my right abdomen I keep reminding myself that it’s a small price to pay for being cancer free. All my life they told me to be careful with the sun and not abuse it, to protect our skin and be careful.  I didn’t listen, been traveling around the world for the past years in beautiful countries spending countless hours on the beach enjoying myself and getting tanned, prioritizing looks instead of health.  Like most people, especially younger ones, you always think it’s never going to happen to you…  But it did.  And I was wrong… I should have listened. I’ll never be able to go out heavily in the sun anymore, one of the things I enjoyed the most, but I’m the only one to blame.  All the years of not paying attention and abusing of the sun have finally caught up to me, but it’s never too late to change. From now on I vow to always put my health first in every facet of my life, from sun pritection to my diet, alcohol consumption and eliminating bad habits.  Prioritizing health instead of looks, relationships instead of accomplishments, giving without expecting in return and most importantly gratitude instead of always wanting more. This is the start of a new chapter, a brighter one (no pun intended!) and like I always say:  It’s a new dawn, it’s a new day, it’s a new life for me…  And I’m feeling good!
