The Music of Lennon and McCartney (1965)
These two and their music have pulled me out of how many depressive episodes? Provided the soundtrack for how many of my very happiest memories? Been with me through how many painful days? Kept me company when I was alone for how much of my life? Eased my anxiety attacks how many times? Reminded me that I was going to be okay after how many break downs? Given me words that I tell myself how many times a day? And yet…. total dumbasses.
No Words by Paul McCartney. “It’s only me. I love you”
This song was released in 1973, it’s on the brilliant Band on The Run album. What i love about this song is that it doesn’t make us think maybe it’s for John Lennon, it IS for John Lennon, no doubt. Keep in mind two main points that are obvious:
- All You Need Is Love, lyrics by John;
- This quote: “One of my great memories of John was when we were having some argument. I was disagreeing and we were calling each other names. We let it settle for a second, and he lowered his glasses and he said, ‘It’s only me’ and then he put his glasses back on again. To me, that was John. Those were the moments when I actually saw him without the façade, the armour, which I loved as well, like anyone else. But it was wonderful when he let the visor down and you’d just see the John Lennon that he was frightened to reveal to the world.“ (Paul McCartney, Come Together: Lennon & McCartney in the Seventies by Richard White, 2016). Song “No Words” Lyrics: You want to give your love away And end up giving nothing I’m not surprised, that your black eyes are gazing You say that love is everything And what we need the most of I wish you knew, that’s just how true my love was No words for my love You’re burning love, sweet burning love It’s deep inside, You mustn’t hide, your burning love Sweet burning love, your burning love You want to turn your head away And someone’s thinking of you I wish you’d see, it’s only me, I love you No words for my love By Paul Mccartney

idk if you’ve answered this before, but i’ve been thinking about it for a while. why do you think paul was so jealous over stuart and yoko rather than cynthia? i don’t think there’s anything about him seeing her as anything to be jealous over. do you think he didn’t see her as a threat? or do you think paul only got jealous over john when it came to getting in the way of work? hope you’re doing well
Yes, Paul wasn’t jealous of Cynthia. And I think it’s because he didn’t see her as a threat, as someone who would have caused problems to their relationship. Cynthia was never into the music world, she wasn’t a musician, she wasn’t a model, she didn’t want attention from the media either. And she always let John do what he wanted to do, without limiting his contacts with other people. And it’s true when you say that Paul was jealous of Yoko and Stuart because they were also both musicians and in some way they replaced Paul from that point of view too. So Paul saw them as a major threat. And also because I’ve always believed Paul thought the relationship he had with John was something very special and unique, and something that John sadly didn’t have with Cynthia. When John met Yoko Paul was scared as hell, because he understood John was completely in love with her, and she was not just his new companion, but was a musician as well, that could replace him, and could replace Paul in terms of deep relationship and feelings, that they had a bond and were soulmates, like Paul was with John. This didn’t happen with Cynthia, and that’s why Paul didn’t see her as a threat, because he felt (arrogantly) more important to John than her.
“Even when they weren’t in the same room, they were writing Lennon-McCartney songs. Even after they broke up, they kept bouncing songwriting ideas off each other, aiming answer records at each other. They gave each other no peace. That friendship followed them around their whole lives. I love the story John’s limo driver tells — it’s 1980, John is in the back of the car, listening to the radio, really enjoying this new hit song called “Coming Up,” wondering who the singer is. Then suddenly he says, “Fuck a pig, it’s Paul.” They couldn’t get away from each other.”

John Lennon during his stay in Bermuda, Summer 1980.

Interview with Paul McCartney: Gifs 1 to 5: At the first part of the interview, Paul was talking about the first time The Beatles played in France/Paris so he comments on how he and John already knew Paris; Gifs 6 to 10: Later on the interview, discussing his song The End of The End, which talks about death, the after life and the idea of what is like or should be like, not sad but a journey for a much better place (to listen to it and see the lyrics => x), and he gives the answer above, in the gifs 6 to 10.
Aaww French interview with Antoine De Caunes, i love it!! And i love the way they loved my town with John! Aaawww
