MEETUP SUGGESTION + PLEASE HELP

I'm Karolina from Czech Republic and this summer I'm doing a student research project on fans and fandoms. For this, i would love to document a meetup,photoshoot and/or interview fans on their opinions on their fandoms, how they are invested in them, on the fanactivities and stuff like this :3

Right now I am in London if anybody has some free time on their hands and I plan to be in Manchester from 20th to 27th of July so I would like to ask you if you have time for a meetup or at least if i couldnt hang out with any interested members? Or if anyone is getting ready for the con, I can help with cosplay making or assist on photoshoots... Also i just genuinely want to meet fellow friendly grey nerds :D IT WOULD REALLY HELP ME A LOT!

D'you think it's cool to say hi to cosplayers as I'm not going in cosplay but I really like Homestuck? (London MCM 8th time aha)

Absolutely!! As long as you're respectful (no hugs/taking photos without asking first, etc) then talking to people at expo is the best thing - not trying to imply that you wouldn't be respectful, just always worth keeping people's personal space in mind :)But I've made so many friends through chatting to Homestuck cosplayers at expos, even when in plain clothes or cosplaying another fandom. We're a really friendly bunch, so come say hi!!

I don't know if anything 'official' is happening, but as long as there are multuple Homestuck cosplayers at expo, I have faith that we'll find each other and hang out and make new friends and things will be wonderful!!

yes, hello. I was wondering if you were going to go to the next mcm expo (London UK) in 2015 and if you were still going in homestuck cosplay?

Hi!! I will indeed be attending the next MCM (hopefully, anyway!) although alas, I haven't cosplayed Homestuck myself for a little while now. Hoping to do one last big Godtier cosplay whenever the final update comes out though, and I'll still be taking photos of any Homestucks I see around the place, even if I won't be organising any 'proper' shoots for it.

I’m sorry guys I took like no photos at the Homestuck meet/shoot this time :( But I did meet these lovely people! I was a Jane (see the theme here!!) and had an awesome time, highlights including having a spoon fight with the Jane above and being literally swept off my feet by a shirtless Jake in an army helmet haha!!

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get any photos of the actual shoot, if anyone has any of the Jane group shots (especially the Dave/Jane one) please give me a shout, I’d love to see them! :)

We’ve recently been given a provisional slot time for Panelstuck from expo staff. This is only provisional but is unlikely to change, hence why we’re getting the info out now so that people have notice before expo and can plan days/timings better and work around any shoots/meets and whatnot. 

Since this is probably the last Panelstuck at MCM we’re hoping we can make it the best one yet! So we’d all really love to see as many of you as possible come and watch/ask questions/interact etc. @: 

DATE: SATURDAY 26th OCTOBER 2013  TIME: 2-3PM // 14:00-15:00  PLACE: TOTALLY COSPLAY STAGE 

Details will be confirmed when we hear back with the finalised schedule in a few days/etc. They will also be in the programmes handed out in the dealer’s hall on the day if it slips your mind anyway or you don’t manage to catch it on here. 

Friendly reminder that you also WILL need a VALID EXPO WRISTBAND to enter the Hall where the stage is and to make sure to leave enough time to battle your way through the crowds to grab seats and whatnot. We’d hate any of you to miss the start! Hope to see as many of you there with some killer questions for us all !!

Seeing how Expo is just over a month away

I have a few very little mostly pretty cheap cosplay tips that have pretty much not only saved my costumes but also made me friends;

Buy a wig brush. A proper one like this you can actually buy them from most shops that sell weave etc. Mine cost me £1.50. It fits in a handbag for easy touch ups on the day and your wigs will thank you. So will your arms when you spend 30 minutes detangling instead of an hour if your wig is past butt length. Like seriously, I wasn’t convinced until I detangled a wig i hadn’t touched since wearing on the docklands in record timing.

Get a travel sewing kit like this or if you’re a ridiculous fancy pants like me this because it’s cuter, or even create one for yourself, mine is now full of new stuff because i used everything that came in it up. If you buy a small tube of glue that fits in it too you are set for almost any cosplay emergency. (Also if you are a Kanaya do you even know how cute it is having a little sewing kit? SO CUTE)

Make up fixing spray. I have this one and it came from Savers/Bodycare for about £1.99 you can also get an affordable one from e.l.f. here especially if your make up is complicated or involves facepaint. I have also heard good things about lipstick fix but not tried it myself.

If you’re wearing contacts take some eye drops, solution and your case. You may not need them but when it comes to your vision it is better to be safe than sorry.

Don’t forget the essential stuff like water, please don’t dehydrate it isn’t fun.

if you have lady parts in your pants take sanitary stuff, even if you aren’t due sods law says if you forget and it happens tesco will be sold out.

Baby wipes or face wipes are a godsend, even if it is just to wipe that bit of noodle sauce you dropped down yourself or your friend was wearing body paint and in your excitement you hugged them and hit the one unsealed patch.

Same goes for tissues, travel packs are your friend.

If you have to take medication set an alarm or tell a friend you trust so you don’t get carried away and forget them.

Plasters. They work on cuts and blisters and once i used one to stop a hem from dropping because I used all the right coloured thread.

Have fun, be safe and if you are lacking in one of these items on the day send me an ask. If I see it and I can I will help you. I spent a Homestuck meet helping people glue horns back together.

Finally!

Okay I was finally able to to register the meet/shoot with MCM. However I’ve still got to wait for them to get back to me and Okay it. (Hopefully that will not take half as long as it did when trying to organise the May meet.) So until further notice the Meet is taking place at 1PM on Saturday AND Sunday at N9 inside the Excel building. If the meet location or time changes we will tell you AS SOON AS POSSIBLE! We are still taking photoshoot requests. Here is the up to date list Shoot request List  And here is the current list of attendees (You don’t have to tell us but it would be cool to know) Who’s who and coming as who? Also if you have any ideas for what things such as games, you would like to do/play at the meet do not hesitate to tell us. We will take all suggestions under consideration. ~Behax~
