What a terrible feeling to love someone and not be able to help them.
Jennifer Niven, All The Bright Places (via wordsnquotes)
“I was there, Gandalf. I was there three thousand years ago. I was there the day the strength of Men failed.”
But the hearts of Men are easily corrupted.
in the raw chaos was the terror of becoming . of what was storming upon their shores ; what was raging with the foulness of a tempest . they had been sighed long before coming to the borders of rivendell , of where the last homely house of the east sea was located and would be crushed beneath the wave of his destruction . but just as many had seen , many more could not have known . sauron thundered through with an impressively oppressive pall , plumes of black smoke and ashes following in his wake . plants withered and died , leaves graying and singed to herald the coming of his decimation . felled trees toppled dead in their path , ruinous upon the elven homeland so pristine with verdant delicacy . bridges and hidden ways became trampled , dyed underfoot with the red of its peoples’ blood .
sauron knew where the elf lord would lay in wait amid the fragile host of his home , of those whom rose in units before him that scavenged for their lives some means of escape .
’ you know of our coming . you have seen it . ’
it is relayed with a sense of triumph in earshot of the elven lord , of the skies blackened with smog and decimation coming early . the dark lord himself passed through their gates , over rivers brackish with blood and bilge of their devastation . it was then , only then , their gazes would meet as they had thousands of years ago . in the aftermath of númenor’s ruin , after the deception of the rings that only elrond and galadriel had the gall to see through . of the incorruptible rings that had been made by celebrimbor , unable to corrupted by his maleficence . but what could not be accomplished then would be destroyed on this day .
for elrond would step into the court of battle would a blaze be set by sauron’s wroth , all decaying vegetation burst into virulent flame ; almost a barrier to their battle .
’ i see you … ’
The sound of thunder rumbled in his pointed ears, and he could feel their tips going cold with the coming sense of rightful fear that spread across his mind. It was as Gandalf had warned, and it was as they had seen, but what the Lord of Rivendell did not expect was to have the reality come marching across his doorstep... Not this. It’s far too soon... Peace had only lasted for so long, and my only wish was that it could have gone for far longer... For my daughter to never witness the grief of fallen friends... of fallen family. Never again. Sword unsheathing, and Elrond made a promise to himself to not show the fear that was battling within himself. Especially, not to the kind of monster that now stared back at him with a temper that could not be matched. The Lord of Mordor... Elven eyes could see details that would go unnoticed by any mortal being, and he saw only death upon that which this terror brought. A blaze that erupted around them only had the elf shift in the slightest, an unwanted reaction to what all creatures would so normally fear. Yet, this was anything but cause for normalcy. “You are not welcome here! Go back from whence you came! Slink into the shadows as the wretched creature you were, when the Lady of Lothlorien had you banished!” Raises his sword up in a position of defense with one hand, while the other was kept at his side in a tight fist. There was something so blood-curdling about that voice. It was one that haunted so many in their dreams, like a nightmarish ghoul that would never cease. It was one that would whisper into any listening ear, and spur on all shreds of doubt... Doubts in which had the Lord stilling his movements, for he could not think of himself, but of his people.... of his daughter. “Why are you here? You should be far, far away from these lands!”

key to surviving in lord of the rings:
- do as elrond says
YOU SHALL BE THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING

Imagine your father, Elrond approving of you and Legolas’ relationship, and being happy that you two are dating.
@mcnareweak – ;
a pyre was lit from the shade whom had invaded mordor . distantly it stalked , wrath that culminated to a maligned pull and shadow . that lands that carried from gondor to rivendell were marked and far between , unevenly shorn by the charred path the dark lord and his detail were razing . for this was not the terror provoked from ages eld as it had once been , but his potency was alone and assured . the last of his ilk so powerfully beholden . their number was not orc , not stampeding staccato of hoofbeats on trodden loam . rather , this was the nazgûl racing in the shadow their master had forged . black fire burned the forests , plumes of smoke and smog rising in defiant height of a sky that demanded to be pure . their cacophony rose heartless and wailing , pitching above a humane register that grounded their foes in terror .
when they descended , rivendell would be forced to fight .
The Lord of Rivendell was woken to the sounds of terror and the smell of smoke. His guards had rushed to him as soon as they could, and to explain it all in detail... The enemy was coming, and exactly what was coming none of them could ever truly know. Orcs had been spotted, and so it was enough that they had the time to alert all that were living here. Also, it was enough time to armor up their leader, who was wise enough to evacuate as many as he could. The orders were given, but there was far less time now that the orcs could clearly be seen invading his keep. Elrond turned to his daughter, who was more than ready to take up a weapon herself, but he would never allow it... Not on this night, at least. “You need to leave with the others... Find safety in the mountains and hills. Do not wait for me. Go!” He could not watch her leave as the escort came to take her, and he could only hope that they would make it alive. With a heavy heart needing to be steel, the elven Lord went away from his private lodgings and down to the courtyard where destruction was taking place. One cleave of his unsheathed blade, and several orcs were downed, but there were several hundred more that he could tell... A storm overhead that brewed of only more grief, and troubles... Elrond was looking past their numbers, as something had him going silent. It was something he could not place, save for the icy sensation running up along his spine. This familiar feeling... Just what is coming?

Frodo saw her whom few mortals had yet seen; Arwen, daughter of Elrond, in whom it was said that the likeness of Lúthien had come on earth again; and she was called Undómiel, for she was the Evenstar of her people.
