“You know what the real love story is? The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”
Comparing the rotations of objects in the Solar System. Just look at them lol.✨🪐
To everyone that's confused, the planet Venus rotates very very slowly, with a single revolution taking about 243 Earth days, and Mercury rotates slowly, but not as slow as Venus.
i was like "i wish mercury and venus were still animated tho" and then when i opened it to reblog the image was in starting position with mercury's eyes off to the side and i realized they ARE animated. super slow.
the earth's eyes are drawn in a different place every rotation
figured out why k/taang bothered me as a kid.
Most children's media I watched back then was primarily directed at young boys, and atla was no different. Aang is the main character, and the center of the main romance (although this was very much not the focus of the show), which is mostly shown from his perspective. The writers also talk about it from his POV. Katara is the cute older girl who sees Aang like a little kid she needs to take care of. She loves him "like a babysitter, like a little brother". But there's the wish fulfillment; even though you’re a goofy kid, the pretty older girl likes you back. I had seen that dynamic, that perspective, in kids media over and over and over again. It was always the girl who changed her mind. And as a girl who couldn't relate, it always felt like watching her get worn down. (disclaimer: these were my feelings, I'm aware they don't reflect the writers' intentions)
K/taang, from its inception, right from the mouths of the writers, was always about what Aang wanted, his wish fulfillment. What little boys would want to see.
The difference in zutara is that it’s not a male-centered fantasy. It’s not that the girl will come around eventually, it’s that the guy has to work and change to be her friend. It's female-centric. Even k/taang fans seem to recognize this, although they view it pejoratively. “You like Zuko cause he’s hot and you project onto Katara” Look, I’m gay so no I don’t want to date Zuko, but yeah womanhood is central to Katara's arc and so I relate to her more than I do Zuko or Aang. Of course the idea that someone would change to gain your respect is more appealing than being worn down into liking someone you just previously treated like your child. And hey! Romance is wish fulfillment! I’m sorry, is that supposed to be shameful?
K/taang fans have this constant misunderstanding that zutara is shallow and so are its fans. It's all about the aesthetic appeal of Zuko over Aang. Honestly the way they talk about it sometimes smacks of misogyny. No you can’t find this relationship deep or meaningful, you just think Zuko is hot. You don’t like their dynamic or development, you just project onto Katara because you think Zuko is hot. You dont like zutara over k/taang because they’re completely different kinds of ships that appeal to different tastes, you just think Zuko is hot and Aang isn't.
Because women can’t possibly think deeply about these things, they’re shallow and insipid, obviously. Do you hear yourselves?
I like Katara and Zuko together more because k/taang reminds me of every other male fantasy I had to see women be accessories to. Katara may be her own character in the show, with an arc and development and independence, but in her romance with Aang, she's just his girl.
"Why do you talk so much about being intersex?"
Over 90% of parents of visibly intersex children opt for cosmetic surgery on their infants.
The ones that don't experience medical violence then, likely experience it as a teenager.
I didn't.
I am very rare in that I did not experience medical violence.
Why? Because I learned what intersexuality was as a young age, and I actively fought against what doctors wanted to do to me. All the way down to legal research on what medical care minors can be forced into. I remember walking into that doctor's appointment with the state law written down that proved that if I did not consent they could not do surgery.
That is why intersex activism is important. It saved me and it will save more.
I think there's some medias that you just cannot meaningfully engage with if your main priority is shipping
(Tired aroace voice, metaphorical cigarette in hand) You don't have to make them kiss... they don't always have to kiss...
So many other kinds of human connection get put to the wayside with our current culture’s obsession with romantic love.
Don’t get me wrong it’s ok to ship romance but it doesn’t have to be the only type of relationship we celebrate in media, fandom space included.
BRIDGERTON S03E04 / S04E08
The boulder pushing punishment is iconic. But I think more people should know the reason Sisyphus was punished to begin with, which was for cheating death, twice.
The first time he cheated death, Sisyphus had just angered Zeus by revealing the location of the Asopid Aegina whom Zeus abducted. Which is super valid, fuck Zeus.
Sisyphus knew that Zeus would send the god of death Thanatos after him, so he prepared a trap and trapped Thanatos in the chains meant for him.
After that, nothing on Earth was able to die so long as Thanatos was in chains. Which meant no animals could be sacrificed to the gods. This angered the gods, who made Sisyphus' life so miserable with pain and illness that he would beg for death. And so he released Thanatos.
But then came the second time Sisyphus cheated death. As he was dying, he asked his wife to dump his naked corpse in the middle of the public square. Denied a proper burial, his soul ended up on the far side of the river Styx, unable to cross.
He complained to Hades and Persephone about how his wife disrespected him, and begged them to let him return briefly to the world of the living to scold her and make her bury him properly. They agreed, and Sisyphus returned to life. He then embraced his wife, and refused to return to the Underworld.
It's only when he finally died of old age that he was sent to Tartarus and punished with the boulder.
I don't remember where I've seen it, but I like the interpretation that Sisyphus doesn't have to push the boulder. He can choose to stay in Tartarus and rest. But he was promised that if he managed to push the boulder to the top of the mountain, he'll ascend to Elysium.
And Sisyphus, in his stubbornness and cleverness, refuses to give up on a challenge.
One must indeed imagine Sisyphus happy, planning and scheming about how he'll cheat the gods next.

@gorandomshesaid wait i need to sit with this one. wait.
anthony bridgerton is gonna start to look normal once her inner freak gets released
thinking about michaela stirling apologising to francesca for causing her and john distress even though she knows that john enjoys her being there when she understood what francesca was feeling.
thinking about michaela stirling standing by and not being bitter at all as everyone offers they condolences mainly to francesca when john was her person; the only person she could truly be herself with.
thinking about michaela stirling crying when she hears francesca’s breakdown about having nothing to validate her love with john and later sitting in a circle surrounded by his possessions.
thinking about michaela stirling forgiving francesca for lashing out at her when she suggested her way to honour john’s life because she understood why francesca acted the way the did.
thinking about michaela stirling and about her loving john and about her being irresistibly, irrevocably, undeniably in love with francesca
When I tell you I snorted!

How important is representation in [Franchaela's] love story?
Francesca being devastated she had no children to remember John by, no “piece” of him left, but he left her Michaela. Arguably the biggest part of him, the person who loved him as much as Francesca did yes but had known him all his life. Someone who can tell stories about him and that she can talk about him with. Theres something so poetic about his two favourite people falling in love. I cant WAIT for their season!
I've said it before, I love the decision to make Francesca the queer person in the relationship, the queer representation of Bridgerton.
I don't know what they'll do with her storyline, I don't know if she'll be pregnant, if they'll adopt, or if they won't have children, but Francesca is the lesbian (or bisexual, because I think Fran is bisexual) representation of the woman who likes other women, who is feminine, has stereotypically feminine interests, wants to get married, wants children, but in her own way. And why do I say this?
Because if they had made Eloise a lesbian, they would have fallen into the stereotype that the woman who doesn't want to get married, doesn't want children, doesn't like most men, has interests not associated with femininity, who struggles to be more than a wife and mother, is all of that because she's actually a lesbian.
Eloise can be all of that: she can be feminine, she can not just want to be a wife and mother, she can want to be educated, she can like things that aren't traditionally feminine, and still be able to fall in love with a man. The only difference is that the man she falls in love with won't be a chauvinist or someone with conservative ideas; he'll be a man with whom she feels like an equal, not inferior (that's why Theo is perfect for that, but that's just my opinion).
I like that Fran is considered the perfect lady and wants to be one, and yet, she can be a lesbian or bisexual and fall in love with Michaela. I feel that a queer story where Francesca is the one with that queer history is more interesting than falling into the stereotype of someone who doesn't want to get married or have children because she's a lesbian.
